Matrox millenium II question

2002-06-23 Thread Michael Clark

I am in the process of getting a Matrox millenium II 8Mb card which has been
running in a PC, and am wondering if I need to do any alterations to it to
get it to work in my 7500 200/604e?

Any help appreciated

2002-06-23 Thread Mark Rath

I just picked up a ZIF Carrier, it's the XLR8 MACh Speed G3 and I have a G3
233 processor to put in it. I bought it on Ebay and have no manuals the
speed chart on XLR8 web page is beyond confusing. I am trying to drop this
in a 7500 and help on the dip switches?

thanks!

Re: Matrox millenium II question

2002-06-23 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In addition to Mr Jones advice, I can add the following based on my
experience with using Matrox cards made for PCs:

before you can flash the EPROM you may have to set a dip switch that
unprotects it.

there may also be a dip switch to enable VGA.

although there are extension and control panels for use with the card, they
probably aren't necessary to use it. They just give extra control options.

It will have a VGA port, so an adapter will be needed to use it with a Mac
monitor.

I have used Matrox cards/software with OS9 without problems.

Hope this helps,

tafkar

 4. It may not work with OS 9.

I shall have to have a look around for the utilties. Thanks

This card has a MAC output as well as the PC output (thats what interested
me in it), So we shall see how it goes soon.

Thanks

Re: Which ethernet cable for 16/100?

An A-AUI connector, which converts the proprietary Apple-specified connector
to either a BNC or an RJ-45.

An A-AUI connector essentially an AUI connector, particularized for Apple's
machines, requiring less power than a standard AUI connector, and requiring
less backpanel space than a standard AUI DB-15 connector.

The same connector works on every Ethernet-equipped Apple LaserWriter I have
personally seen.

This connector also works on pre-Beige G3 machines, and on legacy (68K,
e.g.) PowerBooks.

One thing that i think you will need is the control panel,
the one that is free.
Did you get that when you got the carrier?

Re: G3 Zif Carrier

2002-06-23 Thread Robert McAllister

Hi Mark.

I just bought a MACh Speed ZIF carrier with g4/450 for my 9600. According to
my manual, at 50Mhz bus speed the carrier jumpers should be set 6,7,8,9 on.

You will need to install the software before you install the card itself.

PCI Version No.

2002-06-23 Thread herb schulsinger

I have a PowerCenter Pro 210 with a Sonnet 300MHz G3 card installed. I would like to
install a combo FireWire/USB card in my one remaining PCI slot. However, I've
already tried two, the Orange Micro OrangeLink Plus and the Sonnet Tango, and neither
worked. In fact, both hung up the computer necessitating a restart. Apparently
these cards will only work in PCI version 2.1 slots. Does anyone know how to
determine the version number of PCI slots?

Re: bus speed boost

2002-06-23 Thread Bob

Last year I bought a Speedy bus accelerator from the guy who now sells
what is left of MicroMac. www.macupgradespecialists.com I used it on
my 8100, 7100 and 9600. There were drawings for ID of the 7100 and 8100
clock crystals, but I had to hunt around for the correct one on my 9600.
Generally, you can accelerate the bus speed of PCI Macs, but you have
to find the right clock chip (there are sometimes many), or you have to
know how to solder very small resistors (to change the bus speed of the
stock 9600 CPU card).

The Speedy worked well on the 8100 but caused serial and SCSI problems
on the 7100 and 9600 when I went to fast.

Sincerely yours, Grizzlygiant

So, I've been working on a beige G3 for my son and found out you can
boost the bus speed by moving some jumpers. Can we do something similar
for those of us with PCIs?
 Anand

CDR-W in an external firewire case

I've got a 9500 with a Mcallly PCI firewire card. I want to get an
external firewire
case and install an IDE burner. Do I still need to get a burner that is
supported by
Toast or will any burner work since its in a firewire case? I've seem
some external
firewire burners on ebay and my local Buy and Sell trader that say they
are MAC
compatible. When checking roxio support page these are not supported by
toast.

  Any other suggested addons?
Any really good $300 and under G3 cards people

Fry's in Southern California is selling the Sonnet 500MHz G3 upgrade card for $199.
I believe it will work in the 7600. I've been using their 300MHz card for a couple
