Re: PESO 2009 - 170 - GDG
First of all I like the image and it got me thinking what would I do which is great =) Here's what I came up with that I would do differently, YMMV For this image as shown: I find the colors a bit too washed out. A little more contrast and a little more red/brown would have my eye wander less. Also, if you can go back there (too bad I am nowhere near wherever it is), I would love to see the shot with a little more focal lenght and a step back or two for less background relative to the globe. Specifically, I would get rid of the door in favor of symmetric portions of the pillars and vertically I would omit either the top portion of the wall or the curbstone line, preferably the former. There is too much drawing my eye away from the globe making it kind of not the center of the image that I see. With a calmer geometry colors and contrast would be fine. Hoping this can be seen as constructive Cheers Ecke 2009/9/23 Godfrey DiGiorgi ramar...@mac.com: A Little Hiatus ... http://godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com/a-little-hiatus Comments always appreciated, thanks for looking. Best motorcycle ever, IMHO :-) The intro was held at the International Center of Photography on 6th Ave at 43rd street and it's definitely worth a visit if you get the chance. Their current exhibit is on the work of Richard Avedon, who is not one of my favorite photographers - but that's probably all the more reason to have a look at his work, I thought to myself. I was quite surprised at how much of it I liked. The thing is, it was all his really *early* stuff that really seemed good to me. The exhibit had the photographs grouped by time periods and the later the year the less I liked his work. He seemed to have figured out what sold, at one point, and then stopped experimenting and growing. In his later work he seemed to be imitating his own Richard Avedon style (though very well!) I once read an article that suggested that Liza Minelli has, in effect, become a Liza Minelli impersonator; I think Richard Avedon became a sort of photographic equivalent of that. All the prints looked fabulous, by the way, but particularly the earlier ones, to my eye. I doubt Avedon was a darkroom kind of guy so I wondered who did his printing. Whoever it was did a superb job. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

It's probably a good idea to set your MUA to a complete insistence on plain text, and to, if at all possible, reply to entire messages and not to the individual attachments. Re: 645D Again
2009/9/22 Jaume Lahuerta jlah...@yahoo.com: I understood some irony in Miserere's words...sometimes it seems that they don't bother to convert the currency so a camera that in the US costs 1000$ in Europe goes for 1000EUR, whatever the rate is. Jaume Quite right, Jaume, there was plenty of irony in my post :-) My quick thoughts on the 645D: They should have scrapped direct backwards compatibility with legacy glass (but provide a fully-functional adapter) and created a DSLR-sized and shaped camera with the (rumoured) 36x48mm sensor. The Leica S2 is a bit smaller than a Nikon D700--if Leica can do it, so can Pentax. Create something new, exciting, and affordable (within the segment), that's what I wish Pentax would have done. Instead, they're just sticking a cropped sensor in a 645 body, keeping the same registration distance, and repeating the whole APS-C vs full-frame silliness. Unless all those mock-ups they've been showing lately are an elaborate ploy to delude us. My 2 cents (or 1.6p). --M. -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- http://www.EnticingTheLight.com -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Got any Pentax 110 lenses lying about?
... they look silly ... I spend my time looking through a camera, not at it. ... Pentax K to micro-FourThirds adapter costs $270 ... That's a Novoflex adapter, probably the most expensive vendor out there, and totally unneeded unless you are adapting DA series lenses to micro-FourThirds. A 'dumb' FourThirds to micro-FourThirds adapter (no electronics) is $80, add a Pentax K or M42 to FourThirds adapter for another $12 to $30. That's what I use for my M50/1.4 and SMC-T 135/3.5 lenses. The question for me is why? Are there not many other lenses available for this body? There are currently eight micro-FourThirds lenses (and three known to be on the roadmap for late 2009/early 2010) as follows: Micro-FourThirds Lens List At The Present Time (Sept 09) Panasonic, current: G Vario 7-14 G Vario 14-45 OIS G Vario 14-140 (150?) HD OIS G 20 G Vario 45-200 OIS Macro-Elmarit-GD 45 OIS Panasonic, upcoming on the roadmap: G 8 Fish Eye G 14 G Vario 100-300 OIS Olympus, current: M.Zuiko 17 M.Zuiko 14-42 In addition to that, using the FourThirds to micro-FourThirds adapters, you can use all of the Panasonic/Leica, Olympus and Sigma lenses made for FourThirds SLRs (about 30 more lenses in total, from consumer to super-high-end pro). But people have a lenses already that they want to put to use. Many people seem to have Pentax 110 kits with a defunct body and would like to use their lens collection on something that can support digital capture. It's fun, that's all. $135 for an adapter? that's not bad to get some use out of lenses that you have lying in a drawer and would otherwise just go into the trash bin. I don't understand the attitudes on this PENTAX forum. Here is a way that someone can have a little fun with some neat old Pentax stuff, and all I read is oh those lenses suck anyway and why do it? Oh well, so much for Pentax joy and fun. I guess you'd all rather be arguing about noise and build quality problems in your K7 and lenses, celebrating the Pink version of a KX-M, or otherwise pissin' moanin' about aperture simulators. -- Godfrey godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: And for the Pentaxians who still shoot Pentaxcameras and lenses...
As a side note, I did a photo workshop with G. Lepp in Alaska and he mentioned being able to borrow this lens from Canon for his time in Alaska. At the time he said it was worth $80k USD. He refused the offer saying it was just not worth his concern to be worried about this lens during his trip. He drove up from Calif. btw. The msg titled Pentaxians who only shoot Canon, but hang out anyway... has gone into the universal bit bucket somewhere, or the list owner is having fun deleting some and passing others, just to mess with our heads. Harrumph. It read: A treat in store for you in BH's Used/Refurbished dept. http://tinyurl.com/chj2ml for an extra $600 you can have it camo'd. Re: Got any Pentax 110 lenses lying about?
and all I read is oh those lenses suck anyway and why do it? Well EXCUSSE me. I simply asked a simple question. If there were few lenses available, I might understand the value of the $135 adaptor. That's all. I didn't imply a thing, I was trying to understand the use of the 110 lens on the camera body. Geez. Kenneth Waller http://www.tinyurl.com/272u2f - Original Message - From: Godfrey DiGiorgi gdigio...@gmail.com Subject: Re: Got any Pentax 110 lenses lying about? ... they look silly ... -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
