Easy to say *now*, but I see a shot by crouching down near the guy with the iPad and shooting upward so the horizon is not included. You'd see just up-stretched arms holding phones, and balloons. You'd have to be pushy and yet somehow not get noticed by Mr. iPad. :-) Love your colourful balloon series, Dan. On Sat, Aug 11, 2012 at 8:53 AM, Daniel J. For sale, one day late - CZJ MC Flektogon 50/4 + Tilt adaptor
Hi! Although I was quite excited about this buy some time ago, it is big, it is heavy and it requires manual focusing while my eyes are getting progressively weak :-(. So, offering for sale - Carl Zeiss Jena MC Flektogon 50/4 with Tilt Adapter. Few points about this combo: 1. You get lens front cap, K-mount rear cap and Pentacon-6 (I recon it is originally Pentacon 6 lens) rear cap. I don't seem to find a front cap for the adapter as the lens came attached to it. 2. The piece of material that has the tilt angles on it is falling off. If you have proper glue you can easily glue it in place. Obviously it does not have any effect on the operations. By the way adapter goes up to 8 deg of tilt. You can rotate the tilted lens with clicks every 15 deg of rotation. 3. The lens aperture (which as I was told is a weak part of these lenses) in perfect order - snappy without any signs of any trouble whatsoever. 4. The lens is free of dust except the space immediately after the front element. There is certain amount of dust that as I understand is the blackening coating of the inner side of the lens barrel. It does seem moderate and I did not find any issues with it. 5. Optically this lens is very good with surprising micro contrast and very pleasant rendering but given its huge front element you wouldn't want to shoot with light sources in front of you. Few times I noticed that the center part of the frame was brighter than the rest which I attribute to the reflections off the camera sensor. 6. Asking USD 300 plus shipping. I will absorb PayPal fees (about 5%). I can ship either EMS (which I'd prefer for its insurance and speed) or regular air mail. The latter is like USD 15 or even less but without tracking and insurance. Given rather heavy item, I expect EMS to cost order of USD 40. Please contact me off list if you're interested and require more information/shots about/of/by this lens. Thanks. Re: Creativity vs. gear?
Reply interspersed. On 8/9/2012 8:13 AM, Igor Roshchin wrote: It has been said many times that abundance of equipment can suppress the [necessity for] creativity. Or, maybe the opposite is correct: lack of proper equipments boosts up the creativity. IMO - neither. You see, Igor, equipment is a tool, creativity is a state of mind (or even state of soul, if I may be so creative to put it this way :-) ). Consider this - in general people don't fly. Yet they take wonderful landscape photos. But if people could fly as easily as they walk, they might have been able to make even better landscape photos. Or may be not. This guy, shooting Olympics with iPhones, has been feature in many news/blogs: http://www.wired.com/rawfile/2012/08/covering-the-olympics-with-three-iphones-and-some-binoculars/ Or see it with all photos at once: http://www.wired.com/rawfile/2012/08/covering-the-olympics-with-three-iphones-and-some-binoculars/?pid=3287viewall=true Short link: http://goo.gl/bl2Qv This person is excellent photographer. So, for him the gear is so much a tool that he knows how to get the best of it given his creative photographic idea. The tool does not pose a limit for him. Of course, the fact that you have your top-notch DSLR doesn't forbid all this creativity. But it doesn't stimulate it either. Whenever you learn your gear and get to know its limitations by heart then you become creative within these limits. So if one such person buys a new lens for a time being their creativity expands only to become again limited when they hit what they perceive as gear limits. That is, if (like me for example) one is driven by one's gear, then one's creativity lives within gear's domain, so to speak. If one's truly creative, one can do things that people like me couldn't possibly dream about although the gear we use may be very similar if not the same. I still remember a lady with whom I worked between 1998 and 2000. At the time she was shooting with simplest film PS camera, but boy, her photos were exciting and most enjoyable to look at. The question remains open, - does too much gear hinder your creativity? What do you think? Yes and no. If you're driven by your gear, then yes (see above). If you consider your gear a mere tool, then probably you're more creative to start with. PS. My wife made a suggestion for the actual reason why this photographer decided to use 3 iPhones instead of his 3 (5? 10?) DSLRs: their office ran out of ponies that carry the heavy photo bags. So, he had to carry his gear by himself. Indeed. I find it much more convenient to lug Ricoh GXR with 50 mm (EFL) lens module than any of my DSLRs. As of recently I have come to realize that I value size and portability far more than alleged and probably theoretical anyway (for me, that is) image quality. Ricoh GXR gives me excellent quality that I dare say may surpass my Pentax gear under certain circumstances (modulo this very photographer). So most certainly your wife, Igor, has a most valid point. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Nope. Fall River, Mass. That's a coal-fired power plant. The hot water they were releasing into the river was harming the fish, so they built cooling towers like aNuclear plant. It's essentially a self-contained system. As funny as it is, those towers make the plant a bit more green. Reminds me of what Louis Armstrong (who didn't like bebop) said of bebop: If you make a mistake, repeat it twice and call it improvisation. RE: OT: British thighs are the Envy of the World
I think Cavendish says the fastest he's been clocked in a race sprint is 78 km/hr. That's the fastest anyone's been clocked btw. But it was kilometres, not miles per hour... I don't have a cyclocomputer anymore so I don't know how fast I get up to on my road bike. Several years ago we set up a flat 200 metre course in an all-but-deserted industrial area. In a flying 200 I averaged 50 km/hr on a track bike. i don't remember exactly but I think it was about 14 or 15 seconds, and it was the most agonizing 15 seconds of my life. All that to be 30% slower than the world's best (who regularly do the flying 200 in under 10 seconds. Most importantly, it explains why it's always uphill, into a headwind, and raining hard whenever I go for a spin. But it's encouraging to know that with the right clothing and helmet I could achieve the same speeds as Cavendish (70 mph on a flat road). I've already achieved over half of that once, when I entered some sort of crease in space-time and found myself going downhill on a sunny day with the wind at my back. Or maybe it was all just a dream. B -Original Message- From: pdml-boun...@pdml.net [mailto:pdml-boun...@pdml.net] On Behalf Of knarftheria...@gmail.com So far I've only watched the video on The Hour; very interesting stuff! Amazing that 28 years after Merckx got the record it was bested by Boardman by a mere ten metres (in the athletes hour). Goes to show how amazing Eddy's record was, especially when one considers how much training techniques and science have developed in that time span. Also consider that Merckx did his hour after his back injury. He always said he was never the same after the accident and felt that be could have gone farther in his hour were he not plagued with back pain. At some point I'll have to go look at Vickie's thighs. Until then I'll have to (again) congratulate you Brits on ~owning~ the road and especially the velodrome at the Olympics. Most impressive! Nice to see Kenny come out of Hoy's shadow (and beat a monster like Bauge no less!). And I was thrilled to see Sir Chris win one more gold in the keirin.
