Just calibrated my monitor.
Well the main reason for this post is to help out anyone else trying to get new life from older equipment. In this case the Spyder2 Colorimeter. ColorVision doesn't support it for Microsoft OS' beyond Windows XP, but I hate to discard perfectly good hardware if I can avoid it. I was able to find a free third party software product that seems to have done the job. It /only/ took about two hours for the analysis to run. I don't know if it's very through or very inefficient. I stayed up to make sure it didn't need any user intervention, but for the most part it runs automatically. Anyway if you're interested in giving new life to an old Colorimeter, The product is called DisplayCAL. It can be a little tricky and obtuse to initially install, and takes a long time to profile a monitor, but hey it's free and seems to work. It also supports a wide range of colorimeters, not just the Spyder2. Now I'm off to bed, before I do something stupid and try to soft proof and print an image. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Don't tell the Missus...
"DON'T TELL THE MISSUS" is such an oft heard and written word in Photographic Circles and Forums. Obviously it pertains to buying gear with the express permission from ones Missus. But why are MEN so afraid of their WOMEN here? After all it is the MAN's Money? Not unless you are using your Missus's Money to buy the Gear - which is considered most unmanly in many Cultures. In Asian Culture real MEN don't ask their MIssus for permission to buy Gear. We just go buy the Gear and tell our Missus so. In zest only folks. Regards. Bipin from the IT Capital of the World - Bangalore. Please don't tell Mr. Trump. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Ringling Bro's retired the Elephants last year, it's the dropoff in attendance that seems to have killed the circus. There are other traveling circuses with animals that have a much worse record than Ringling Bro's. The elephants have been moved to a reserve in Florida, but the monkeys and other animals have a somewhat less certain future. The big cats cannot be released into the wild and will end up being board for the rest of their lives. I don't see this as a win for them. The circus people who probably love the life are now consigned what? Retirement, maybe trailer parks and drugs except for the lucky few who will find something similar at lower pay to what they used to do? That doesn't matter. Who cares if the animals are all right, except that for all but the high profile exotics, and those that could become pets, that probably isn't particularly true either. Re: Sad news this morning.
Perhaps. But I wondered what was going to happen to the animals? Who's going to take them in & care for them? Re: Pentax M-E Mirrorless?
Because it would involve actual strategic planning and risk taking. Pentax has been risk adverse for so long that it's amazing that it hasn't infected all of Ricoh. I always thought that Pentax missed a bet by not having an accessory EVF that would work on both the K-01 and Q series cameras, absent actually re-engineering the guts of the K-01 to make space for an EVF in say the the top left corner of the body. It would have made a lot of people take both cameras a lot more seriously. Now it appears the Q is following the K-01 into quite obscurity. Soon to be flushed down the memory hole. Even Q lenses have disappeared from the ricoh-Imaging website now. No discontinuing the product announcement, just letting it fade away. Let's face it the Q and the K-01 were both big risks, but the bean counters minimized the risks to such an extent that if they did have long term viability it was compromised from the very beginning. I fully expect that if Ricoh lets the Ricoh-Imaging division, (which really does seem to be in large part Pentax's engineering group and camera marketing arm), actually create a mirrorless system camera that it will more closely resemble in specifications the "Kodak" S1 not a Panasonic G anything or Olympus OM-D. K3 AF Frame Rate
If the 27 point focus zone array is selected, along with "H" speed, the burst rate of my K-3 is both eager and constant, and seems to approximate the claimed 8.3 FPS. To me, the rate then sounds much like that of the AF-S shutter priority setting. I didn't find this in the thin manual, it just happened when I chose to try a full 27 point zone rather than 9. I tried it out at the local refuge yesterday and found it to be a great improvement.
