(500, in that case). In fact the K10D will always ask you for the focal length (assuming SR is on) if you mount a lens that doesn't have the digital signal pin (i.e. a KA-mount or older lens). I'm pretty sure the K-5 does the same thing, too, but I don't generally use it with non-auto-focul lenses. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: PESO: eurasian hoopoe
Thanks, Subash. I didn't get that far! With the K5, 1.7x & any lens, the Focal length selection window appears as soon as the camera is switched on. Of course if you adjust the zoom you would need to repeat the process. The correct adjusted f-stop is transmitted. Re: question about zooms and TCs
If you have both you can test them out. My experience has been that unless the teleconverter and lens are designed to be used together, results can be unpredictable. Sometimes great, sometimes not. If you are planning on using the setup with shake reduction enabled, check to see of the TC sends adjusted focal length info to the camera, or if just passes through the the lens focal length. I think that for image stabilization to work optimally the camera should be set to the adjusted focal length (lens focal length X teleconverter power), so you may nee to manually set it. Re: question about zooms and TCs
Tele-converters are not all created equal. I have a Tamron 1.4x that's garbage and a Sigma 1.4x that's pretty good. The Tamron I have may just be a bad example, so don't take that as a blanket condemnation of the brand (although the one Tamron zoom lens I own is also garbage). I've noticed the Sigma TC seems to give better results when paired with a Sigma lens; and I get better results with Primes than I get with Zooms. That said, TCs can give good results with zoom lenses, just not as good as they give with primes. I think the TC just magnifies any defects the lens might exhibit and sometimes those defects aren't apparent without the TC. Slightly OT ... Does anyone make a GOOD, affordable set of extension tubes in Pk-AF mount? I think the main reason TCs arent recommended with zooms is that if your shooting at the short end of the zoom with the TC attached, you would get better results by removing the TC and shooting at the long end of the zoom by itself. -- J.C.
