Thats what is happening up here.

It seems to work. Where I am, we were practically the North American hot
spot 3 months ago. The powers that be started shifting vaccinations to
my city in mid March, and not things have started to settle down quite
nicely.
They took a bunch of restrictions off today, restaurants can now offer
increased seating, indoor gatherings can now be as many as 10 people
(last week indoor gatherings were whoever lives there, that's it), etc.
We now have enough people vaccinated that in a few weeks they will be
lifting more restrictions, and with luck, by mid July we might actually
be able to have something of a normal life again.

I'm able to book my second shot in a week, or possibly sooner.

Sorry to hear Malcom but I hope you are on the mend. A good friend of the
WD caught it last March in the start of all this and she had a hell of a
time, in hospital for 2 weeks and very hard to breath said it felt like
someone was poking her in the chest with a needle every time she took a
breath.

Let's hope the vaxx does what it supposed to do.

Quite true. They have doubled the interval in SA so more over 60's can

Sorry Malcom! Our niece (who lives next door and is more like the daughter we
never had) got covid in mid-November. Never hospitalized but down for several
weeks. Gradual recovery, but definitely in the long-covid group. Her primary
issues are arthritis-like pain in her knees, stomach upsets, and,

Re: OT: Covid

2021-05-31 Thread John
I read somewhere that as they developed the process some logistical problems
cropped up causing delays for some people getting the second dose, but *they*
found out the 3 week period between doses was not critical; that if for some
reason the second shot was delayed it was still likely to be effective.

And in some cases maybe more effective because the immune system had longer to
work on the first dose.

The most important part seems to be just getting vaccinated with the timing of
the two doses not being a BIG problem. Plus, haven't some single dose vaccines
been approved now?

Note that I am not a medical professional and this is just the way I understand
it from reading the newz.

A little rain usually doesn't stop our Memorial Day parade either. My son,
who was the lead trombone in his MS and HS maroming off the long COVID
lockdown, no one really wanted to send all the young people out in that

Likewise, this year they postponed our town's premier Memorial Day weekend

competitive bike race in the US.

rain or shine, but It will be held on Labor Day this year.

Re: PESO x 2: Hippo Deposit

2021-05-31 Thread mike wilson
I was expecting much more mess. Hippos are usually very, um, enthusiastic
poopers.

Take care, Dave. I read that hundreds of people have been evacuated.

We've had a ton of rain here in the past few days. 26mm on Saturday, 68mm

I went out with my daughter this morning with our wet-weather gear on, to jump

Re: PESO x 2: Hippo Deposit

2021-05-31 Thread Alan C
Yes, quite true. Plenty of that in the "parks" along the streams in
town. Thank goodness it didn't happen in my driveway. Hippos are also
enthusiastic f*rters - they keep the rivers & dams (where the chill
during the heat of the day) well aerated.
