Re: OT: Covid

2021-07-09 Thread Paul Stenquist
A prophecy has been passed down through the ages via twitter and Facebook. On
August 15, the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, hundreds of
thousands of believers will assemble on the National Mall. A brilliantly lit
cloud will appear overhead and begin to gradually descend. The believers will
fall to their knees. When the cloud has descended, a figure will emerge from
the mist: the Orange God — the diseased manslut — the antithesis of a blessed
virgin. The believers will chant, “MAGA, MAGA, MAGA!” The orange one will pass
gas and pick his nose as the assembled masses cheer. He will then be seated in
a gilded sedan chair and a dozen hairy men with american flags tattooed on
their foreheads will carry the portly philanderer to the white house.
Legislators and government staff will flee before the throng, recognizing that
armageddon has come, and the sweat-soaked studboy will once again assume his
rightful place behind the resolute desk. So it has been written, so it will be
done.

Re: OT: Covid

2021-07-09 Thread John
Why would I need to confirm it. It's just something odd I noticed. If you want
to confirm it, find your own voices.

If it was signal processing in the brain it wouldn't go away when I change
position in the bed.

I wouldn't have noticed it at all if it wasn't just at that one spot and only at
certain times of the day. It's almost always between sunrise & noon, except for
when it's late, Late at night.

Whoever owns the radio/TV sometimes has insomnia as bad as mine.

The pattern is what intrigues me. Talk interspersed with music that sounds like
commercials & occasional (laugh track) laughter.

Also sometimes there's more than one voice like they're having some kind of
on-air conversation. Whoever has the radio/TV is doesn't listen to the same
station all the time. I can hear a difference in the musical interludes.

I've been told by audiologists that I have particularly acute hearing, well
above average (even after all those years in the Army).

Hell, there's got to be something about me that's above average, and I guess
hearing is it.

The good news is that this might be fairly easy to confirm. I don’t know if
the mic of your cell phone would be sensitive enough to pick up the sounds, but
it might.

There is also the case that the human brain is amazing at filtering signal out
of noise. Unfortunately it is so good that it can find signal where there is
none, so there might just be some noise that is close enough to be like speech
that your brain thinks there is speech there for it to filter out.

I don't think you can find non-wireless anything anymore.

I have a Canon Pixma ix6520, which was replaced in the Canon lineup with
the ix6820, almost immediately after I bought it.  The ix6820 is selling
for $175.,  most places, and I assume that the wireless connectivity can
be turned off, because it has USB connectivity as well.  I know it has
drivers for Win7 because they are the same as for the ix6520.

The printed results are pretty good, as it's a CMYK system, though they

Re: July PUG is up

2021-07-09 Thread Bill

Thanks Paul, Stan and Daniel for liking my picture this month.

It wasn't the picture I wanted, but it was the picture I got. I had
wanted to be on the other side of the building and do a hopefully not
too cliched sunset shot.

Unfortunately, there had been a whole bunch of rain in the few days
prior, and when I drove onto what passes as an approach road (read dirt
path), my truck bogged down and started to sink. Deciding that
discretion is the better part of valor, I backed out before the truck
got totally swallowed and drove back to the highway to hopefully find a
view that worked.

I hadn't taken my really long lens kit with me, as my intended picture
would have required a wide angle. Consequently, even the 70-210 was
really too short, as the structure is quite far off the highway. I could
probably have used my 600mm lens for that picture.

Being the dumb dumb that I am, I left the back door of the truck ajar
while shooting the picture, and the cab filled up with mosquitoes, so I
spent the hour and a quarter drive home fending off the little
bloodsuckers..

When I opened the file in Camera Raw, I processed it using the new
Enhance tool, taking the file up to 144mp and then did a fairly deep crop.

I think, all things considered, that it worked out fairly well.

thanks again

It must be nice to believe that after centuries of warfare, slaughter,

our economics methods these great men and women, our leaders, their
assistants, civil services, militaries, media, medical, financial and legal

jealousy, personal ambition and overweening pride and egotism that have
previously been their defining characteristics in order to cooperate
selflessly and in secret to carry out the most spectacularly complex plot in
history with the greatest success imaginable so that they can secretly track

farting, spending money on junk, and watching hours of shit on the TV all day

Fortunately one man has cottoned on to their demonic plan and will save us,
because he selflessly has all our best interests at heart. Won’t be long now
before President Trump is at last reinstated.

It's hardly a secret that *THEY* can track any individual they find to be "of
interest".

They don't track everyone. They don't need to. But they CAN track ANYONE.

If you somehow end up on their shit list, they can track you and they can
backtrack you. Hell, the Panopticon was invented in the U.K.

I've read there are more surveillance cameras in London than there are in the

PESO: Monarch Condo

2021-07-09 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
My most recent endeavor in raising Monarch butterflies was a group of
larvae from Monarch Watch. Since the previous brood had devoured the
smaller potted Milkweed plants, I used my largest net cage for the new
fellows, who were very tiny upon arrival.

In addition to some smaller potted plants and some cut foliage from plants
growing in our yard, I placed a fairly large potted milkweed in the cage,
and left it there the entire time. There didn't seem to be as many
chrysalises as I had expected clinging to the top of the cage when all the
larvae had metamorphosed. When I removed the large pot from the cage, I
discovered the reason: a number had decided to hang their chrysalises on
the side of the pot, rather than climbing to the top of the cage.
Actually, there was one more than shown in the below image; I accidentally
knocked one off as I was removing the pot. I placed that one on some paper
towels, and it will probably still develop into an adult butterfly.

I was somewhat amused by the manner in which they all crowded together on
the pot, instead of spreading out as they usually do on the top of the
cage. That reminded me of a little condo development, with all the units
close together.
