Re: OT: The Joy of Spring

2020-05-17 Thread Ken Waller
We’ve been doing curbside pickup for several weeks now. We call from home and
by the time we get there the food is ready. Several of the places we’ve used
have been offering meals at reduced rates or buy one get one free. It’s been
working out well for us.

NY is number one in total COVID-19 cases, but Jersey is number one in
per capital cases -- and deaths.

I'm glad you were able to get Ashley to the Vet;  I know what she
means to you.  I hope and pray the treatment will get her back on her
feed and restore her to her normal state -- for a kitten of her age.
I am familiar with Royal Canin dog food.  It is very helpful with a
dog who has digestive issues.  I hope it will help Ashley.

I've never tried Words with Friends, but it sounds interesting.

Stay safe and healthy, and keep us up-to-date on how you and Ashley
are doing.

Stirring stuff, Cotty. I think many will share your sentiments.

We are still pretty well locked down here although they have made a few
concessions to get the economy going again. We can exercise on the road
in the early morning & many shops, businesses & mines are now open with
strict conditions but still no travel allowed. No booze, cigarettes or
restaurants but take-aways available. The infection rate is slowly
creeping up especially, as you say, in the more densely populated areas
where they are struggling to control the masses. Hotspots have been
identified. The whole northern & eastern Platteland so far has had
minimal infections. They are expecting the peak in June or July but the
medical services are now well prepared. 200 odd Cuban Doctors have been
recruited to assist. They completed their quarantine today.

You can say that again.

Last time I left this place was to on March 13. We aren't in lockdown,
so I could go out if I wanted but being 65 and the very model of a
member of the risk group I'd rather stay safe. Besides, I can't be
bothered as long as we aren't allowed into Belgium.

After almost 40 years of home office, the situation isn't that different
with the obvious exception of our Friday trips to Liège.

Business at least is still ok, alternating between weeks of total hectic
followed by one where we're wondering if this is at last the economic
crisis they tell us is looming. As long as the numbers are ok by the end
of the month I'll certainly not complain.

Still trying to think of something I could reward myself with. Has to be
something that doesn't need to be taken outside. No idea. A classical
first-world problem, I suppose.

OT: The Joy of Spring

2020-05-14 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
Being imprisoned in one's own home by a virus is getting very, very old.

I go get out twice a day to walk the dog, but that has become another
routine. My wife goes to the supermarket once or twice a week, but
whatever pleasure she gets in that is diminished by the half-hour spent
sanitizing everything that was purchased, For the past month or so, we
have tried to have lunch on the patio, to get some fresh air and sun,
weather permitting. That helped a bit, but . . .

Yesterday was a glorious, sunny day. Our new chaise lounge chairs arrived,
and the pool had been opened late last week. Yesterday, we finally took
the plunge and jumped into the pool!. Lee got to do her water exercises
for her knees, and I swam a few laps, but the best part was the break in
routine and the anticipation of summer. What a joy!

The water was 70 degrees, and the air just over 60, so as soon as we got
out, we jumped into the hot tub -- 105 F. I was so relaxed, I almost
forgot about dinner.

Looking forward to brighter days ahead.
