Question about K10D and file numbering
I have just received my K10D GP Edition, and I'm trying to learn how to use it. In spite of the many configuration possibilities, it seems a user friendly camera (except the WB adjustment options, I have postponed looking at them in deep because I was getting a headache). I have a question to the veteran users of the K10D in the list: in the DS there is a simple menu option which allows you to reset the file number count. I don't see a way to do the same in the K10D. I want to reset the file number because mine is a used camera, and it'll be easier for me to organize my files if I am able to reset it. Is there a way to do that? I can't find it in the user manual. Re: Question about K10D and file numbering
Here's what you do: - Press Menu, go to the last item in the Record menu named Memory - Go to the last item in the Memory options File No. - Press left or right arrow to uncheck this option. - Press Menu again to exit the menu functions. - Insert a storage card to format. - Press Menu, go to the Settings menu, second item Format. - Format the memory card. - Make an exposure. The exposure will be numbered 0001. - Re-set the Memory option to remember file numbers. All subsequent files will be numbered in sequence from that point, whether on the same card or not. If the memory option to remember file numbers is turned off, the number sequence will not be remembered and it will be incremented one more than the last file number on the currently inserted card. If the card is blank, it will start at 0001. Godfrey On Mar 18, 2008, at 9:57 AM, Carlos Royo wrote: I have just received my K10D GP Edition, and I'm trying to learn how to use it. I think that I can answer the question by myself. I have seen that there is an option called Memory in the Record menu, and there you can reset the file numbering by unmarking an option called file number or something like that, and inserting a formatted card. It is a bit convoluted in my view, but it works. It is very nice to have the PDML on hand to find a quick answer to my questions. With the K20, I wanted to avoid file number duplication as much as possible, so I took a card straight from my K10 to my K20 and started shooting. As I hoped, the camera picked up the file number off the card and continued on where the K10 had left off. Of course, I then decided to do a global prefix rename in camera, so I may as well have not bothered.
