2011/1/15 Tim Øsleby maritim...@gmail.com:
A customer rolled into the shop a few days ago.
His right hand isn't very useful. He can grip and steady the camera
with it, but that's about all.
His left hand is better. He is able to move the thumb and the two
neighbouring fingers. A gave him a Oly PEN just to try it out. He
seemed to like, but he didn't like the prize. He insisted to use his
 thumb as the trigger finger.

To me, it looked like he could move it up and down, but not sideways.
 Didn't ask him about that.
I think what he is looking for is a large PS camera, with the trigger
 within reach for his thumb.

So crew, do you have any ideas where to find a good tool for this guy?
Any pointers are better than none.

When I read your query the first thing that popped into my head was a
camera that can work in tethered mode (assuming your customer can
operate a laptop). Using his chair as a tripod so to speak, then have
one of the models of cameras that can be fully operated using the
laptop.

2011-01-16 Thread John Sessoms

From: Tim ?sleby

Thanks for the creative solution. I'll introduce the idea to him next
time he comes in.

One solution we discussed was to find a camera that could be triggered
by air pressure from a ball under his arm. Any cameras around that
could be used this way?

Any camera that has a socket for a standard cable release should work.
The new Fuji x100 perhaps, and I think some Nikon cameras (DSLRs - don't
know about their point 'n shoot cameras) still had the socket.

Something that might work is an adapter that straps around the camera
and fits over the shutter release button.

seemed to like, but he didn't like the prize.

If he has limited dexterity, would a flexible mount that he can clamp

To me, it looked like he could move it up and down, but not sideways.
 Didn't ask him about that.
I think what he is looking for is a large PS camera, with the trigger
 within reach for his thumb.

So crew, do you have any ideas where to find a good tool for this guy?
Any pointers are better than none.

Why complicate it? The air release can easily be connected directly to the
camera. Trying to get it toe activate the remote would require some jerry
rigging, and it adds failure potential.
