Re: Need some help finding a camera for a wheel chair user
Just wondering, Tim - any news on this? Would be interested to hear more. Cheers Ecke 2011/1/15 Tim Øsleby maritim...@gmail.com: A customer rolled into the shop a few days ago. His right hand isn't very useful. He can grip and steady the camera with it, but that's about all. His left hand is better. He is able to move the thumb and the two neighbouring fingers. A gave him a Oly PEN just to try it out. He seemed to like, but he didn't like the prize. He insisted to use his thumb as the trigger finger. To me, it looked like he could move it up and down, but not sideways. Didn't ask him about that. I think what he is looking for is a large PS camera, with the trigger within reach for his thumb. So crew, do you have any ideas where to find a good tool for this guy? is it going to be primary handheld or can you see him using a flexible arm attached to his wheelchair with the camera mounted on it? unfortunately, all the solutions I have in mind are probably too costly. I am thinking along the lines of a small ballhead with a handle that you rotate to unlock and lock camera adjustment, something like the Novoflex MagicBall but hopefully cheaper Ecke 2011/1/16 Tim Øsleby maritim...@gmail.com: I don't think he is able to use the trigger if he holds it upside down. Forgive me if this has already been mentioned but ... When I read your query the first thing that popped into my head was a camera that can work in tethered mode (assuming your customer can operate a laptop). Re: Need some help finding a camera for a wheel chair user
From: Tim ?sleby Thanks for the creative solution. I'll introduce the idea to him next time he comes in. One solution we discussed was to find a camera that could be triggered by air pressure from a ball under his arm. Any cameras around that could be used this way? Any camera that has a socket for a standard cable release should work. The new Fuji x100 perhaps, and I think some Nikon cameras (DSLRs - don't know about their point 'n shoot cameras) still had the socket. Something that might work is an adapter that straps around the camera and fits over the shutter release button. http://www.adorama.com/CZCRAS.html - No virus found in this message. Why complicate it? The air release can easily be connected directly to the camera. Trying to get it toe activate the remote would require some jerry rigging, and it adds failure potential.
