Ok, try as i might i cannot get a pdf to load in FF version 11. So i'm
now want to up load my extended bookmarks to Safari, which will open
the pdf's, but, every thing i search for this tells me to open
bookmarks in FF and click on Organize book marks. I do not see this
command at all. I dread having to hand bomb 100 or so book marks one
at a time.

Dave, when you click on a pdf link in Safari, it should open the page in
Safari. Instead of clicking on the link, try 'Control' clicking (that
is, hold down the 'ctrl' key while clicking on the link - then see a
small drop down box appear - one of the options should be 'download
file' or similar. This will save the file to your desktop where you can
 view it at your leisure.

a one-step way to force a link to download instead of trying to display in

No, but Googling around brought up Skim. I know nothing about it (as

Dave, when you click on a pdf link in Safari, it should open the page in

I use Adobe Reader and don't have a problem with it - in fact I find it
displays PDFs better than Safari.

i am on a Mac, but i don't use Adobe's PDF plug-in in the browser — i consider
it a security risk, so i only run Adobe Reader manually when necessary; i use
the built-in (non-Adobe) PDF capabilities within Safari which are good enough
95% of the time

i use FireFox now and then, but rarely for PDFs; here's a doco that might help
though:
