Noe that the debuger chapter is closed, and you actually did create a
error tracker helper and try to return them client side, I can
understand that you are frustrated by the poor php layer and support
regarding exception handling, but on this point as a lot of people
answer you we are doing that server side, if you are developing in a
MVC environment you don't need the view to debug your model.

 For my concern, a program cannot be debuged by itself (especially
 with a scripting language, we almost did a joke by saying that too),
 to debug you need real debug symbols exposed and catchable  the only
 to have them: you must have a php-zen-debug build, unfortunately it is
 not an optional feature to run the interpreter in this mode, you can
 only have it  at compile time, thing that is impossible to predicate
 and have due the different platform support extensions,

 secondable, what you are doing is not a debuger, it's a run-time error
 tracker, to make a debuger you need to run a session of the
 interpreter (exposing real debug symbols) into your own exception
 handler program e.g a debuger, debuging php-script using php-script
 is a non-sense, beside this it could be done using DTrace
 unfortunately not available on every OS.

[PHP] search results - details

2002-02-19 Thread mm fernandez

hi,

I'm working on a search results page. actually i have my search form and
search results page working fine already. but i want to add something on the
results page. my search results page shows the following fields:
lastname, firstname, middlename, yeargrad.
what i want is that the lastname results should be linked to a more
details page. so for example, if i have a search result with 'garcia' as
the lastname..i click on that and i should be transferred to a page showing
me more details of that garcia..showing me more than just his/her
firstname,middlename, and yeargrad.

What should i use as my sql statement for the more details page? And how
do i tell the detail page to show which records to retrieve and display?
By the way, here's part of the code that i have for the results page:

// ?php
//
//   include_once (connect.php);
//
//   $sql = Select * from alumni where yeargrad = ('$search') OR lastname
like ('%$search%') OR country like ('%$search%') order by lastname;
//   $rs = mysql_query($sql,$db);
//
//   if (!$r = mysql_fetch_object($rs)) {
// echo No record found. Please try again.;
//   exit;
//   }
//
//   $rs = mysql_query($sql,$db);
//   while ($r = mysql_fetch_object($rs)){
//   echo br$r-lastname;
//   }
// ?

if anyone can please help me. thanks.

If you're using Red hat Linux, it's so easy, even I was able to do it,
including PHP and MYSQL.

If you're using Windows, then PHPTRIAD is your ticket to glory

 Don't run PWS. Go to nusphere.com and get the complete package
 of Apache, PHP, Perl, and MySQL works like a champ.

Don't have $400 to blow on a configuration wizard for otherwise free
software. It's a nice idea, though.

Did, however, take the spirit of your advice and installed Apache as my
local server, a very good idea. Unfortunately, my session script is still
screwing up, but this time it's telling me why (or trying to.) Says it
can't open the session data file. That's a start, I guess.

Regards

M
