Trust the voice of experience, it has been this way for years. Many people have already posted the same problem in this list since a long time ago and I have never heard of anybody that posted this same problem and used my classes with SMTP authentication without success. I developed the smtp_mail() function wrapping these classes precisely to make the solution straightforward for the users that just have to make a minimal change from the mail() calls to smtp_mail(). I do not use Microsoft software. I developed this because I had many requests from Microsoft users. Try it yourself on standard Microsoft SMTP server installation and you'll see. http://www.phpclasses.org/mimemessage http://www.phpclasses.org/smtpclass http://www.phpclasses.org/sasl -- Regards, Manuel Lemos PHP Classes - Free ready to use OOP components written in PHP http://www.phpclasses.org/ PHP Reviews - Reviews of PHP books and other products http://www.phpclasses.org/reviews/ Metastorage - Data object relational mapping layer generator http://www.meta-language.net/metastorage.html -- PHP General Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php

FYI, that is a common error message that SMTP servers return when they only allow relaying messages to remote addresses after prior authentication. This way the SMTP servers do not leave relaying opened to unauthorized users. SMTP servers opened to anybody for relaying usually end in a black list. Hi, Problem is realted to your smtp server. Make sure it allowed outgoing mail without authenctication. You must also set a header in fourth parameter of mail function, it is good practice and can save you from some basic indentification problems. In windows you can set default send mail from in php.ini Try Mail([EMAIL PROTECTED],test subject, test body, from:[EMAIL PROTECTED]); If it fails contact your ISP. [PHP] Mail() error in logs
Hey there - quick question - until a week ago, the mail() function I am using to email confirmations was working fine, now the following error is showing up in the logs: Aug 31 11:50:26 www2 sendmail[29579]: h7VFoQc7029579: localhost [127.0.0.1] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA This error shows up for each mail going out - no matter where it is going to - and that could be one of 4 addresses (an internal, the customers email, and 2 external addresses including a hotmail account). Is this a php thing that I am missing a setting for the mail() function? Or is this a problem with the local mail server perhaps? The following are the settings (on OS X btw): ini_set(sendmail_path, /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -f mail.vtc.com); $headers = From: VTC Orders [EMAIL PROTECTED]\r\n; $subject=Order Confirmation from VTC; $body=A bunch of things that will have no affect on the the email it's self; mail([EMAIL PROTECTED],$subject,$body,$headers); I am not aware of anything that has changed since this worked last (actually about 3 days ago) except that the company has messed with their internal mail server - still - this error is showing for ALL emails going out - not just the ones being delivered internally - and their internal mail server is running on an entirely different server anyhow. So - is there something that I am missing - and if it is not a php error just say so WITHOUT FLAMES and I will check it out somewhere else. I have a site relying heavily on e-mail registration, forums, etc. and mail() is broken in my php install. I've been using an smtp server other than sendmail, but based on recommendations I have removed that smtp server, removed php, installed sendmail, reinstalled php, and php still complains that Warning: mail() is not supported in this PHP build and sendmail is clearly in my /var/lib/php.ini sendmail_path and the location is correct. I can send mail from the command line, but not via php's mail() Need Heelp! real bad. (beg, beg) -- Best regards, Badger mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- PHP General Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To contact the list administrators, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ===8===End of original message text=== I am desperate to get this working. If anyone can tell me a way to troubleshoot this problem, I'll be happy to pursue it myself. I am running the RedHat 7.1 distribution of Linux, Apache 1.3.20, php 4.0.6, and sendmail-8.10.11. The Apache and php are src builds using tarballs and the sendmail is an rpm - I am only using sendmail to troubleshoot the problem, but I will eventually use dmail as my smtp server. All the above servers are on the sam machine. I have turned logging on in my php.ini, but the mail() error does not get written to the log file I specified, only to the Apache error log - but the error is the same as that displayed in my browser when php tries to call mail() Warning: mail() is not supported in this PHP build I've tried everything I can think of and recommendations from this list... I have removed php, removed sendmail, reinstalled sendmail, reinstalled php: here is my php build: - CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/local/include LDFLAGS=-L/usr/local/lib ./configure --prefix=/usr/local \ --with-apache=/usr/local/src/Apachetoolbox-1.5.38/apache_1.3.20 \ --enable-exif \ --enable-track-vars \ --with-calendar=shared \ --enable-safe-mode \ --enable-magic-quotes \ --enable-trans-sid \ --enable-wddx \ --enable-ftp \ --with-gd=/usr/local \ --with-zlib \ --enable-gd-native-tt \ --with-t1lib=/usr/local/lib/php/t1libs \ --with-jpeg-dir=/usr/local \ --with-png-dir=/usr/local \ --with-zlib-dir=/usr/local \ --with-ttf \ --with-freetype-dir=/usr/local \ --with-imap=/usr/local \ --with-mhash=/usr/local \ --with-mcrypt=/usr/local \ --with-unixODBC=/usr/local/unixODBC \ --with-mysql \ -- My php.ini is i the proper location and chnges get reloaded after reloading Apache - verified by phpinfo(). Here is the pertinent area of my php.ini file: --- sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i - Here are others that I've tried in my php.ini file: sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail --- sendmail_path = /usr/sbin -- sendmail_path = .:/usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i -- sendmail_path = .:/usr/sbin/sendmail sendmail_path = .:/usr/sbin -- ;sendmail_path = (default) -- I still get the mail() error Please help me figure this one out. -- Best regards, Badgermailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- PHP General Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To contact the list administrators, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ===8===End of original message text=== Sorry about the name misspell -- Best regards, Badgermailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- PHP General Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To contact the list administrators, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
