Bug#886083: eclipse-platform: raising severity of gconf dependency bug
Control: severity -1 serious As announced [1], we are working to remove gconf from Debian. As part of this process, I am now raising the severity of this bug. Please try to port your package away from gconf. Otherwise, please consider requesting that your package be removed from Debian to help us complete this goal. Bug#893768: eclipse-rcp: Please don't depend on libswt-webkit-gtk-3-jni
Package: eclipse-rcp Version: 3.8.1-11 Severity: serious Tags: buster sid User: pkg-webkit-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org Usertags: oldlibs libwebkitgtk-1.0-0 webkit1 eclipse-rcp depends on libswt-webkit-gtk-3-jni which is the last package keeping the unmaintained webkitgtk in Debian Testing. Please investigate whether it's possible to drop this dependency. I'm guessing it's still possible for apps to use the Eclipse platform without that library: it's just that web browser powered widgets won't work? Bug#868404: libswt-gnome-gtk-3-jni: Raising severity of libgnome rdepends bugs
As announced [1], we do not intend to release Debian 10 "Buster" with the old libgnome (and related) libraries. As part of this process, I am now raising the severity of this bug. libswt-gnome-gtk3-jni has only 2 rdepends in Debian: eclipse-rcp and zekr. eclipse-rcp only recommends libswt-gnom3-gtk3-jni and zekr was removed from Testing last year because it depends on the old webkitgtk. So maybe this bug can be fixed by dropping the libswt-gnome-gtk3-jni package. libswt-gnome-gtk-4-jni still has no rdepends in Debian. Bug#868404: swt4-gtk: Please drop the (build-)dependency against gnome-vfs
Control: tags -1 +patch Control: severity -1 serious I am attaching a patch to drop the libswt-gnome-gtk4-jni package. It has no reverse-depends and it depends on several libraries we are trying to remove from Buster (libbonobo, libbonoboui, libgnome, libgnomeui, libgnomevfs). We'll also need to drop the libswt-gnome-gtk3-jni package but I think we should wait on figuring out https://bugs.debian.org/880470 first (we need the package to migrate to testing or it doesn't do much good!). libswt-gnome-gtk3-jni has one reverse-depends zekr (already removed from Testing because of webkitgtk) and one reverse-recommends (eclipse-rcp, so we'd need to drop that recommends). Bug#871964: swt-gtk: Build-depends on libwebkitgtk-dev which is deprecated

Yeah, um, I looked into removing Eclipse from Buster and from what I saw, it did not appear practical. See my report at comment #130 https://bugs.debian.org/681726 Eclipse is the only remaining reverse-depends of #879170 in Testing once tuxguitar migrates soon. So if we ignore Eclipse, we're left with the RC bug I am fixing in my NMU being the only thing keeping webkitgtk from being removed from Buster. There's also https://bugs.debian.org/879228 but I'm hoping that will be solvable and in my opinion it doesn't need to block webkitgtk's removal. I am mentioning both of these outstanding RC bugs in the RM bug I plan to file with the Release Team next week so it will be up to them to decide. Bug#879243: tuxguitar: Unusable in GNOME on Wayland
Source: tuxguitar Version: 1.2-23 Severity: important I tried tuxguitar 1.2-23 on Ubuntu 17.10 (with the default desktop there on a themed GNOME on Wayland.) (I was having trouble running GNOME on Wayland on Debian in VirtualBox.) tuxguitar was recently switched in Debian unstable to use swt4-gtk (which uses gtk3 by default. gtk2 does not offer any native Wayland support. You might need gtk3 anyway for the Documentation viewer, see 879228.) tuxguitar is nearly unusable in GNOME on Wayland. The traditional File/Edit/View/etc. menu is missing. Mouse clicks are an inch away from the mouse cursor. The Debian GNOME team intends to use Wayland by default on GNOME for Debian 10 "Buster". This might be a bug in swt4-gtk so feel free to reassign as needed. (I normally don't use any Java apps. I just happened to try this one while checking 879228.) Bug#681726: Time to remove eclipse from Testing?
I don't think Debian 10 "Buster" should include eclipse and swt-gtk if they haven't been upgraded past 3.8. I came across this bug report while trying to remove the unsecure webkitgtk from Debian. webkitgtk is ready for removal from Debian Testing in 3 days except… libswt-webkit-gtk-3-jni has an undeclared dependency on libwebkitgtk-1.0-0 https://bugs.debian.org/879170 Once libwebkitgtk-1.0-0 is removed, the functionality provided by that library will be completely broken. It looks like it might be fixed by "simply" updating swt-gtk and eclipse to a newer version. Are there any objections to me requesting that the ftpmasters remove swt-gtk and eclipse from Debian Testing so that we can complete the webkitgtk removal from Testing? Please drop this Build-Depends so that we can remove the old, unmaintained one. Please try to do soon as we're going to try to remove the old webkitgtk soon. I am filing this bug as "serious" since the old webkitgtk will not be available in the next major stable release of Debian (codenamed "buster"). The package does build successfully without the libwebkitgtk-dev build-dependency. It feels to me like the libswt-webkit-gtk-3-jni was already broken since it doesn't have a dependency on any webkitgtk library (I think the correct one would be libwebkitgtk-3.0-0 but that is still part of the deprecated libraries which are being removed.)
