[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC not working

2010-01-16 Thread Surry

I'm having a problem with AlienBBC. It was working fine a week ago,
but now none of the BBC feeds are working at all, including the listen
again feeds on both the Squeezebox and the web based Squeezebox server.

I updated to Squeezebox Server 7.4.1, the firmwire on the Player and
installed the latest AlienBBC plugin via the web based Squeezebox server
settings and this is shown as enabled.

Using AlienBBC I can connect to Virgin Radio (from the list of
stations), but nothing else plays. When a connection to Virgin Radio is
made the right side window of the web based server indicates the station
name and displays a radio tower icon, for all BBC connections the window
shows a disc icon with the word 'Empty' underneath. The Squeezebox
player displays the text 'Nothing Playing'. For all other stations
listed in AlienBBC, for example my local Australia ABC, the radio tower
icon and station name is shown, the player timeline indicates something
playing, but there is no sound, likewise on the Squeezebox player the
details are shown on the screen, but there is no connection.

All other local radio content and my playlists play fine otherwise on
Squeezbox, and I can still get the BBC via the internet streams on the
computer, it's just the AlienBBC plugin that seems to have stopped
working for some reason with the upgrade perhaps?

Squeezebox Server Version: 7.4.1 - r28947
Player Model: squeezebox3
Firmware: 130
AlienBBC v2.5-7.3

Any particular reason you're trying to run MiP Linux as opposed to the
headless server? If you're using FLAC encoded audio you may as well
archive analysis to tag and MiP headless can build its own cache file
from that.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spicefly SugarC ube Version 2.03 – (Automatic MusicIP DJ) for 7. x

2010-01-16 Thread Phil Meyer

>up, if I don't like the next song and delete it from the dynamic playlist, it
>tries to add a new one to play next, but most of the time it picks the same
>song.

I found the bugs that were causing this too.

It doesn't keep track of previously played tracks correctly - i.e. mine is
configured to remember the last 5 songs to avoid repeating them. It is storing
tracks into the prefs file, but doesn't honour the limit correctly. i.e. I had
over 100 songs stored, and it was only ignoring the first 5 that had been
stored. Therefore when it fetches a mix based on the last chosen song, that
song is top of the list, is not ignored, and thus just selects that song again.

I changed the code to record the last n tracks, shuffling the historic tracks,
such that the oldest song is dropped, and the newest song gets added.

Looking further through the code, there is at least one global variable (list
of songs returned from MIP for the seed, with historic songs removed), which
means the plugin is unsafe when more than one player has SugarCube enabled.
This needs to either be passed around through function calls, or hold a list of
songs per-client.

My modified SugarCube code is now working well as a Dynamic Playlist, if anyone
has an interest in it. Only one small issue - sometimes Dynamic Playlist
queues up 2 future tracks instead of just one (only when starting the dynamic
playlist with a song in the current playlist to be used as the starting seed
track). Still, I find this much better than SugarCube, which can cause many
future tracks to get added through various events (such as fast-forward, etc).
DynamicPlaylist seems to handle this side of things much better.

I need to test normal SugarCube operating mode now, in case any of my changes
have affected that.

2010-01-16 Thread bpa

Recently the BBC have had problems on their internet feeds (see
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbiplayer/F13735684 ) .

Since your install was working and then suddenly stopped - I would tend
to believe the problem is at BBC end. Caching may be making the problem
persist on your SBS even though the web version works.

Hi bpa,

it was working and has now stopped.

it was working a few days ago on v7.3.1 server s/w, with v0.4 iPlayer

I updated to v7.4.1 / v1.0.1 today in the hope that that would fix it.

works fine via web browser based iplayer...

I know for sure that they aren't compatible. I ran genpuid 1.4 (Linux)
on part of my library, then tried to load that into the MIP 1.8 (Linux)
application, and tried to load it through the MIP web server interface.
In the case of the application, you get a message telling you the cache
file is from a newer version of MIP (which is an amazingly omniscient
message - how could an app know that the structure of a data file is
from a future version of itself! ;-) ). As for the web server
interface, nothing happens, the reload cache button just doesn't go
away.

My suspicion is that GenPUID 1.4 is compatible with MIP1.9, which
unfortunately only runs on Windows.

That's not really applications, that's just a configurable set of
services on MySqueezebox.com.
If you find a way to make MySB know your local library, that could be
done but I doubt you actually WANT that.

Yes, you can uninstall and re-install iPeng. Just hold the icon until
it wobbles and then press "x". You re-install it by re-downloading it
from the App Store. You will not have to pay again as long as you make
sure you use the same iTunes account as with your original purchase.

That said: sluggish behavior can have several reasons, none of that can
usually be cured by re-installing the app. Here's the three I know
about:

1. Your iPhone is doing something else in the background. This can be
e.g. Mail, Safari, QuickTime. Something like that.
Obviously especially an issue if you use a Jailbreak.
2. (most likely) iPeng is still busy synchronizing the cache or loading
the current playlist. You can see whether it's the former by opening the
"Albums" tab, if it still shows a "syncing cache" message, that's very
likely it. On slow servers this can take a while, the time typically
depends more on the server performance than iPeng's, iPeng itself can
read several 10.000 albums in a few minutes.
What kind of server do you run (hardware, OS)?
The current playlist is especially bad with large playlists (several
100 entries) because providing these is VERY, VERY slow on the server
side and thus iPeng communicates a lot for a long time.
3. Some users have trouble with routers, this also some times causes
connection issues that make you need to do a restart. There's also an
issue that NowPlaying sometimes locks (actions don't result in the
player doing anything) when you switch servers.

Seems I can either run GenPUID 1.4 and use MIP1.9 (only on Windows), or

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Plugin to avoid having squeezeserver to play local music

2010-01-16 Thread bpa

Plugin are for SqueezeboxServer.
Applets run on the new generation of player but to do what you want
would require rewriting a lot of the player software.

If you already have bought a player - then probably the cheapest
solution would be to buy a Sheevaplug (or similar), run SBS on it and
plug your disk into the Sheeveplug.

Oh, that's bad, it just redirect you to the AmpliFIND Music Services

I've sent them a mail asking if it's available somewhere, if someone
has it in the web browser cache or something similar, please save it.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] IR-Blaster setup issues

2010-01-16 Thread hokie

I'm trying to get the IR-Blaster Plugin working with my SB3 to control
the volume on my Yamaha RX-V663 receiver. I read elsewhere I should be
able to connect a cable directly from my SB3 output to the remote input
on my receiver.

I have installed the plugin on my server, added the configuration file
for my receiver, connected the cable from SB3 to my receiver, and
configured the plugin for SB3 as shown below.

It appears that the plugin is communicating to the SB3, as the fixed
volume value seems to get passed when I restart the server.

The two problems I currently have:

1. When I press volume up and volume down on my remote, it still
changes the SB3 volume level

2. When I try to press the test buttons for Volume Up and Volume Down
settings, I don't see any response from my receiver.

Any help on how I should troubleshoot would be appreciated!

What I've done is unzip Plugins-SuperDateTime-Plugin.par

and edit lib/Plugins/SuperDateTime/Plugin.pm

Find the line (6048 in 5.8.12) that says

if (!$narrow && !defined $currentAlarm) {
and change it to
if (0 && !$narrow && !defined $currentAlarm) {^M

This just disables the alarm display. What would be better is to put
something like !THEBIGFONT there, but I don't know enough about the
internals to know what should go there.

I guess not many folks have bad eyes and/or their Squeezebox 15 feet
away.

I think something must have changed in the library. At some point in
the past (before last fall?), it would display the alarm time in a tiny
little font that didn't get in the way of the other information on the
display. Getting the alarm time in those tiny letters again would be
better.

Any ideas?

I'm using 7.5, but I suspect it may have been responsible for upping
the memory usage to 85% on my Touch after it ran all day (normal usage
is 73%)

My Radio and Touch have just been updated to r8353 and I've gone
through a very long-winded and unintuitive process to get all the custom
applets back (inc. not-recommended) on both devices (see the other
forum) and now the Album Flow item has disappeared from My Music menu
and there does not appear to be any way to get it back that I can find
(i.e it's not listed in Settings/Home Menu).

Thanks for the link, it does seem like a BBC Radio 4 problem as every

I guess I just have to be patient and hope the BBC sorts their stream

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Plugin to avoid having squeezeserver to play local music

2010-01-16 Thread ModelCitizen

You might consider buying a Touch. You can plug a USB drive/drive into
that as a Touch includes TinySC. My beta version is currently running a
2k album library held in a 1tb USB drive without problems. The Touch
should be released in the not-too-distant future.

The TinySC library should be available to a Radio (it is now) but I
don't know it will be available to any players older than this.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Plugin to avoid having squeezeserver to play local music

2010-01-16 Thread laurentl

Hi,

I wanted to hear if a plugin existed that could play music that is on
my local network without the need to have the squeezebox server
running.

On my router, I can plug a usb drive, so I hoped that I could just put
all my music on this drive and be able to play it from my squeezebox
without needing to have a computer running.

If it doesn't exist, do you think that it is possible to make one doing
this? (I am a developer but I haven't looked at how to develop
components for squeezebox yet).

Best regards,

Laurent

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spicefly SugarC ube Version 2.03 – (Automatic MusicIP DJ) for 7. x

2010-01-16 Thread Phil Meyer
Another thing I've noticed is that if I am playing a song with one song queued
up, if I don't like the next song and delete it from the dynamic playlist, it
tries to add a new one to play next, but most of the time it picks the same
song.

I think this is because it is building the MIP mix from the last track that was
selected, which is the one I'm deleting, and it always includes this seed track
at the top of the mix, which is the one that gets selected.

So, I may tweak the code to make it mix from the currently playing track, or
have some fallback logic to choose a different song if it matches the last
selected song, or tell musicIP to not include seed song in the mix.

However, I can't find the MusicIP http api help pages anymore - I thought there
was a query string param to include/exclude the seed track, but can't find it.

Maybe I just avoid using the first song returned in the mix?
