Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Scan speed

2011-07-29 Thread PasTim

Daverz;644072 Wrote:

Without the trick mentioned earlier in the thread, previous scan times
with SBS 7.5 were at least 10 hours, which was ridiculous, especially
if you only have a few things to add to the menus. 2.5 hours is back
in the realm of reasonable for 60k tracks.

Custom Browse is also much zippier.

So my thanks to Erland for the new work on CB and CS.

7.6 crept up on me quite unexpectedly. I had been expecting it to come
in a month or two (at the end of summer). Anyway, I made the move,
using SQLite.

On my Windows 7 64 bit system , SB 7.6 takes 3 to 4 times longer to
scan my files from scratch. It used to take 12-14 minutes, and now
takes about 45. The Custom scan which follows is about the same at a
bit under 2 hours (whilst playing tracks).

I had been hoping that the Custom Scan would be quicker, and certainly
hadn't expected the standard scan to be so much slower.

Has anyone else had similar results with 7.6 and SQLite? Are the speed
improvements only for Linux systems? Is there anything I can do?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Scan and 7.6

2011-07-29 Thread erland

Try to enable info level debugging on plugin.customscan in SBS
Settings/Advanced/Logging and see if it seems to hang on a certain
query in the refresh operation that happens as the first step of a
rescan. With info level logging you will be able to see how long time
each step in the refresh operation takes in the server.log.

I solved some issues in one of the latest Custom Scan versions related
to this but I've seen that it can take some time in my own fairly small
library, so I suspect it might take longer in a large library. I've also
seen that sometimes it can work very fast and sometimes it will work
very slow.

It looks like the BBC have upgraded their servers and require a
different protocol exchange to get the live text information. I think
I've worked out what is needed, but need to rewrite the relavent
section of the plugins. In the mean time you will not get any Now

I tried this again without (attempting to) play a series of tracks at
the same time. It turns out that the previous 'trick' of playing
tracks at the same time is now the problem. I was not actually
listening to the tracks, and in fact they were playing very badly
indeed, rebuffering all over the place (even using squeezeplay on the
same PC).

Scanning and doing nothing else now took only 13 minutes basic, and 2
hours for customscan, which is fine (now I know!). I don't know if
Erland has any other tricks up his sleeve for 7.6 scanning, but this is
pretty good for 14000 tracks on a not very new PC.

I've just signed up for a spotify premium account, and installed v1.4.4

Everything looks promising, but I get no sound. The elapsed time goes
up in the web interface, but generally doesn't on the squeezebox

Squeezebox Server is Version: 7.5.3 - r31792, running on linux.

I can see the helper app running.

With the spotify plugin logging on, I get the attached in server.log,
in which nothing jumps out at me.

any help greatly appreciated

[SlimDevices: Plugins] CB - Works by Composer problem in 7.6

2011-07-29 Thread PasTim

In 7.6 I have encountered a Custom Browse problem with the classical

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] LazySearch and 7.6.0 r32296/32300

2011-07-29 Thread Stuart Hickinbottom
I'm continuing investigation, when I get the time (which is still quite
rare).

I'm currently trying to navigate all the changes to XMLBrowser/GlobalSearch
and the OPML-based menus with a view to try to re-use that when pushing into
search results. If I can't get anywhere soon I'll re-implement my own
browsing modes, but I'd rather not do that if it isn't definitely necessary
- I'll probably give in an post to the dev list soon!

I've not really tested it, but I don't see why pressing PLAY/ADD on search
results doesn't work already (eg search for an album then press PLAY, and
not pressing RIGHT on a search result); I think it's the deeper browsing
that's been broken by the 7.6 changes. Unfortunately I'm not near anything I
can use to test this at the moment, so I could be wrong.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Scan and 7.6

2011-07-29 Thread PasTim

erland;644677 Wrote:
Try to enable info level debugging on plugin.customscan in SBS
Settings/Advanced/Logging and see if it seems to hang on a certain
query in the refresh operation that happens as the first step of a
rescan. With info level logging you will be able to see how long time
each step in the refresh operation takes in the server.log.

I solved some issues in one of the latest Custom Scan versions related
to this but I've seen that it can take some time in my own fairly small
library, so I suspect it might take longer in a large library. I've also
seen that sometimes it can work very fast and sometimes it will work
 very slow.

I seem to recall a while back you saying that Custom Scan refreshes had
to go back SB 7.5.n frequently to allow people to play tracks whilst
scanning. My experience thus far is that it is quite impossible to
play anything whilst scanning (base or custom) using SB 7.6. I get no
sound, then rebuffering, restarting, and so on.

It is very noticeable using 7.6 that the the squeezebox service is now
running at a constant steady pace (about 9-10% CPU on my PC) whilst
custom scanning. It used to scan in short bursts of a few seconds.

If feasible (optionally?), I'd much rather all scans ran as fast as
possible and I'll forgo listening to SB whilst it is scanning.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] LazySearch and 7.6.0 r32296/32300

2011-07-29 Thread Martin_z

I can tell you that pressing PLAY if you find an album or a song does
indeed work. and plays the album or the song. Come to that, if you
find an artist, and press PLAY, it starts playing songs by that
artist, and will presumably go on and play everything if you let it.

BUT if you press right-arrow when you find an album, it just goes
back to the album - not into the tracks. And if you press
right-arrow when you find an artist, it just goes back to the artist
- not into a list of the albums.

Hope this helps.

Under 7.6 I found that my 2 libraries (classical and standard
dependent) had indeed swapped values, and so had to edit each of my
(mostly your) Custom Browse menus, trackheaders and so on. It was a
little odd, in that even though some menus when edited showed the wrong
library, some of them still worked. I didn't bother to try find out
why.

I had this problem once before when I somewhat foolishly cleared all
preferences etc under 7.5.3. When I recreated my 2 libraries they got
different values.

I don't suppose there's a simple way to reset the values is there?
Could I get into the database tables with some relatively simple tool
and check/ change the library values before starting a rescan/rebuild?
I'm not wholly ignorant of SQL, although no expert.

Yes - that should be ok its trying to stream without flac.

However it doesn't seem to actually start the stream. Is it possible
that you have some other applications using the same port number on the

connecting, it doesn't seem to. Have you tried Squeezeplay or

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spicefly SugarCube Version 2.03 (Automatic MusicIP DJ) for 7.x

2011-07-29 Thread cparker

Tartifless;643728 Wrote:
 Hello,

I noticed something strange since I'm running 7.6.1 of SBS along with
 3.50 of sugarcube.
My SBS scans my whole music directory + import musicIP mixable status
 in 24 minutes (12 600 songs).
In MusicIP mixer and headless WebUI : I have 12600 songs mixable.

In SBS the scanner status says 12 600 songs when performing the MIP
import, but the issue is that afterwards, I have lots of songs without
the option to create a MusicIP mix. Moreover when I play one of those
songs Sugarcube will not queue another song, though it says it finds a
song in the server.log file !
 This issue is quite strange.

What would be the steps to check in order to correct this ?

 Regards,
 Benoit

Hi, have you got it working now? Does the SugarCube Live View show any
details/error msgs? If not can you login to the spicefly forums and
open a topic in the support section.

Cheers

New BBCiPlayer release available. The only change is to fix the live
text display which required a change to support a new authentication
protocol exchange with the BBC servers.

Please confirm this works for you as I will use this as the basis for
the same fix on the BBC Radio applet once I have confirmation this
version is working.

This is most likely to be a firewall issue, but you won't get any help
if you can't provide more details than it doesn't work... Can
spotifyd.exe receive incomming connections, are there any error
messages in the server or helper app log which show something happening

Yep - that's what I'd hoped. It's just the browsing into X (ie browse

duff.

At least it can still just about be used for basic searching-playing
use cases while I sort my act out, though!

I managed to install 32 bit SQLite ODBC drivers on my 64 bit Windows PC
and configure ODBC Data Sources to see the SB databases using Open
Office. Finding the right program to configure 32 bit ODBC was easier
said than done (it's in syswow64).

I can now see that changing the value representing the libraries would
affect several multilibrary tables and thousands of rows, so that's not
on. No matter, I now have a nice user interface to view the SB tables,
and can create my own queries, forms and reports on them.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] DefaultCB request

2011-07-29 Thread PasTim

I am sure there's a lot to do around your plugins with 7.6.

Nonetheless could I ask whether it would be difficult to add the
additional buttons (some skins optionally can display additional
buttons for playable items, like eg. Play next or Remove from
playlist) to the DefaultCB playlist?

With the loss of fishbone (which had its own problems on 7.5.n but was
quite fun) I'm torn between the ease of use of ClassicCB, which doesn't
have the time remaining and a few other features, or DefaultCB which
doesn't currently have the Additional Playlist buttons present on the
Default skin.

Hi Michael, i did test today the first time your Photo Gallery. It works
well if the Photo is on same PC than Squeezeboxserver is stored. But
maybee its possible to make it running if the photos are on external
NAS stored what is common in a lot of cases. Subfolder integration
inside the photoshow would be nice. Something i never saw solutionis on

fotos to tv, pc or photoframes.

any idea?

No - it streams as uncompressed pcm if there is no support of flac.

I'm afraid it won't support a proxy as the audio can't go through

this is related.

in that case couldn't/shouldn't the plugin ignore the Squeezebox Server

Its part of the server not the plugin - I can't turn it off from the

Not even a start message in the server.log
I did everything like you described earlier, but with no effect.

But in the server log I found this:

Any idea?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SlimNAS and SB 7.6.0

2011-07-29 Thread davemal

Anybody got this working ?

I just tried to update as per the method of the last releases and I get
no response. I checked the server.log file and interestingly no entries
are generated. I do get entries when I go back to 7.5.5
(~slimnas/var/squeezebox/Logs/server.log)

I am running FreeNAS 0.7RC2 and SlimNAS 2.0 which have been rocksolid
since 7.4 ? ish...

Any ideas ?

cheers

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotify App on Touch has no sound for many tracks

2011-07-29 Thread cacophony555

I just bought a Squeezebox Touch, primarily to use the new Spotify App
with my premium account. After initial setup of the Touch and
connection to my wiresless network there was an auto software upgrade,
and then I installed Spotify from the App gallery and configured it for
my account.

Many tracks/albums play flawlessly, but there is a large number of
albums that don't seem to play at all. The interface shows them playing
with the track time counting down but there's no sound! It's 100%
consistent with certain tracks. For example, I can play Jolene by
Dolly Parton and it works 100% of the time. But if I try to play Seven
Nation Army - Live by The White Stripes there's never any sound. When I
find a track with no sound, every other track on that album has no sound
as well.

It also won't play Rolling in the Deep by Adele (in the top tracks
list), or any Charles Mingus track I've tried so far. All in all, it
seems to have no audio for about 20% of the tracks I've tried to play.

Any ideas what's going on here? I really want to be happy with this
purchase, but there seem to be some pretty significant bugs here.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotify App on Touch has no sound for many tracks

2011-07-29 Thread pippin

It's a Spotify problem with regional libraries. You can't access some
European tracks from the US, for example or you need different links to
access them from the US.

You are actually running into the same issues when you use the Spotify
web site and App and you have links to the wrong library.

I believe it only became a real issue due to the Spotify US launch.

2011-07-29 Thread MeSue

Even if it is a regional issue, they should just be skipped, not played
through without sound. I have not had the no sound thing happen, but
often when using playlists such as those from sharemyplaylists.com,
some of the songs will be skipped over.

Yep. THAT's what I was referring to. But then I use Triode's 3rd party
plugin, maybe that helps.
