Is there any possibility to make this a configuration item so that I
don't need to keep editing the code with each update? Thanks

Didn't try it, but wouldn't it work using a single batch file like
this?

Code:

  cd /d "C:\Google Drive\LMS Stuff\ngrok"
start ngrok start -region=eu server name
  timeout 5
  updater.py

Indeed I do! I run x2 Win 10 LMS 8.0 servers, using ngrok (free
version) with auto-update via the Python script. I tried the Perl
version 1st but had some trouble getting it to run so used the Python
version which worked 1st time after I had installed all the libraries
and with some help from PhilChill (thanks!). It all works very well.

The trick to running the auto-update in Windows is to run a couple of
batch files from the Windows start-up shell. The 1st batch file points
to the relevant directory containing the ngrok and auto-update script.
This file then goes on to run ngrok to open the tunnel and call a second
file to run the updater script. This may seem a bit long winded (ie. why
x2 batch files?) but the answer is that ngrok has to run first to
establish the tunnel before updater can run, the problem is running
ngrok from a batch file stops the batch file running (meaning you can't
then run the updater script). So the solution is to call a 2nd batch
file which calls a short delay (to let the tunnel get established) and
then runs the updater script. It works fine, if you can think of a more
elegant solution, let me know!

Example batch files below:

Batch File 1 (call this from the start-up shell):

cd/
CD C:\Google Drive\LMS Stuff\ngrok
start /min batch2.bat
ngrok start -region=eu server name

Batch File 2 (called from batch file 1 above):

cd/
cd C:\Google Drive\LMS Stuff\ngrok
timeout 5
updater.py

Adjust the timeout to the minimum to allow the ngrok tunnel to reliably
get up and running.

Hope that helps.

Unfortunately 7.9.3 is not indicated on the PiCorePlayer Download Page.
Which is the only page, I would send a 'Newbie' to.

So, if I'm setting someone up with an RPi, which version should I
download?

7.9.3

If they want to have the latest and greatest and all the thrill that
comes with it, tell them how to insall 8.0 on their own. If they can't
handle it, then they're not ready for 8.0.

When I want a different version, I make a new image, expand the file
system and do the default install.

On completion of the install and before even opening the LMS web gui I
use the upgrade/downgrade method, following the instructions from the
help link

I change the version number to 7.9.4 is required.

I did this yesterday, it used to wrk in a seamless manner but on trying
the IPaddress:9000 link in a browser the LMS web gui would not come up.

I had to reboot pCP from its web gui and then it worked fine

ronnie.

software updates.

I thought the problem was that we were not updating it enough?

Yep. If you're not willing to update, then don't install a development
version.

Really? Great! I'll re-add playlist searching.

Well, I only plan on showing the service search entry points - so should
not be hard.

Indeed I do, I run x2 Win10 servers and both use the Python version of
the script with ngrok auto update which works well. I tried the Perl
version but had trouble getting it going, after instalingl Python and
the relevant libraries it worked 1st time (thanks to PhilChill for
assisting!).

The way my auto update is set up is I run a batch file from the start-up
shell which starts the ngrok tunnel and also calls a 2nd batch file to
run the auto-update procedure. So, the first batch file points to the
directory where ngrok and the update files are stored, it then calls a
2nd batch file, and then runs ngrok to start the tunnel. Meanwhile, as
the 2nd batch file runs, it has a short delay to allow the tunnel to
open, and then runs the python aut-update script.

It seems a bit long winded, but calling ngrok from a batch file then
causes the batch file to stop running so it would never run auto-update,
hence I needed to call the 2nd batch file to solve this. Tweak the delay
to the minimum to allow the tunnel to successfully establish itself else
the auto-update routine won't work.

Example batch files below:

Batch File 1 (Call this one from the startup shell):

cd/
CD C:\Google Drive\LMS Stuff\ngrok
start /min batchfile2
ngrok start -region=eu home

Batch File 2 (this one is called from the one above):

cd/
cd C:\Google Drive\LMS Stuff\ngrok
timeout 5
updater.py

Hope that helps.

Oh dear. There's a lot of sense in getting them a Pi. I could get it set
up at home and deliver it ready to go, and they don't need their PC on
all day for their use. I've resisted so far as every interaction I've

time. There's a whole raft of things I'd have to learn (off topic here,
but including accessing their pi from my home, editing tags on it, etc).
My home pc is on most of the time as I work from home so I use that,
though I used to have a little atom-powered pc for music.

I'll have to think! Thanks all.

Yup. The problem with LMS's generic search is that the returned
meta-data is pretty slim, so Material does 3 searches - artists, albums,
and tracks. With these I can ask for more metadata, so can produce
(IMHO) nicer lists. No point in searching playlists, as the API only
searches the names not contents - which is a shame.

What I'm thinking of doing is adding the "globalsearch items" call,
stripping off the first entry, and then showing a list of the other
items - which I'm hoping will be the options to search on online

The main reason that I added LMS8 as the default install, was the
majority of folks wanting all of the new Music library stuff with
Spotty. If I revert to 7.9.3, then those new features go away. Its a
no win scenario for me.

The problem I'm seeing is that many users probably aren't aware of the
nature of a system under development. Maybe I should just release 8.0.0
and start work on 8.1.

But it's always the same problem: as soon as I start development on new
features, people want to use them. But they don't want to be surprised
by breaking changes...

The LMS web interface will tell you on the bottom of the screen if there
is an update. Pretty sure Material has an update notifier too. If you
see that, then yes, press the "Nightly Update" button. This will only
update LMS, you will still need to check plugins for updates too.

You can of course press the update button as much as you want, if there
is no update, then nothing much happens.

The main reason that I added LMS8 as the default install, was the
majority of folks wanting all of the new Music library stuff with
Spotty. If I revert to 7.9.3, then those new features go away. Its a

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin

2020-08-28 Thread Michael Herger

I guess I could use that, but it means making multiple calls. What would
be *great* is a '["globalsearch", "items", 0, 200, "search:abba",
"timeout:15", "tags:..."]' which would automatically search all
providers (artists, albums, playlists (including tracks within), tracks,
YouTube, Spotify, etc) and return 1 response with loops for all - eg
artists_loop, albums_loop, etc. As well as returning meta-data as
requested by tags. I guess this'd be a lot of work, so not likely to
happen.

That's been the marketing guys' dream 10+ years ago :-). But not only
could this be a lot of calls for a simple search, but there's also a lot
of differences how searches are handled by the various music services.
With some you can request only tracks from album ABC by artist XYZ, with
others you'd get one huge response with all possible items (albums,
playlists, playlists, tracks...). As you said, doing this would require
a lot of work.

Perhaps, as a comporomise, LMS8 could have an API to return a list of
searchable services as per browseonlineartist ? e.g. '["searchonline",
0, 200, "service_id:ID", "search:TERM"]' - I'd imagine most services
that can browse (via browseonlineartist) can also search? Therefore no
need to get another list of services, and each would just need updating
to support "searchonline". (Again, it'd be great if these searches
returned multiple lists (artists, albums, etc)).

Ah, that's why you asked about the local search? Take the menu and strip
off local search to replace it with your own implementation?

I think you’ll find that most people these days use an RPi or a NAS for
LMS and that Windows is in the minority. That’s also down to people
tending to shut down Windows boxes but keep Linux boxes running 24/7.

Thanks for that!
My next query is that the setup instructions are skewed a little towards
linux. As most people use Windows, for better or worse, this must
discourage most interested people from going further.

It looks as though I need to both arrange for ngrok to run at startup
(no info provided at all for this. Maybe a scheduled task would do) and
also install either python or perl to run the update script. I have no
idea which of those might be simpler or faster. Maybe perl. Who knows.
Perhaps paying for the $5/month ngrok would be a pricy by least time
consuming option.

Hey Michael..

In addition to MS thread suggestion for "selected text.. Find ON" ..
I just realized that MIAP itself gives kind of dead end journey (in
terms of listening I mean - it provides all text info which is great)
...
for example going into
> Artist information > Related artists > Similar To >

I can read about related artists // albums or whatever but I'm not able
to listing (search for it : on Spotty /Qobuz etc)
So similarly as per MS topic any chance to add "On Spotify/Qobuz" in
MAIP results?
Hope that makes sense..
Cheers

haha. I only wish I could, honestly :o

By "easy" I meant for talented and familiar with existing code developer
like yourself, Michael and many others on here. As much as I would like
to get more helpful with code itself I just don't have enough in me
sadly (ps I tried a bit with Transfer queue if you remember which you
had to change as I used some not acceptable /outdated practices)

So best I can do really, it's to share ideas for making this already
wonderful system a little bit better. Yeah I know its subjective
depending on use case but wouldn't more universal LMS be better for
everyone?

If this particular case I've noticed that there are already working
functions/features/plugins which are however somehow separated. I'm just
thinking of marrying them together to improve user experience:

1. Material Skin
2. Music & Artist Information
3. Streaming Plugins like Spotty /Qobuz etc

So concept is:

If Material Skin "BIO/Album Review" text can be select-able as its in
default skin
31365

Then already exiting function "On ." which is at the moment under
"more" (listed if streaming service plugins are installed)
31366

31367

Could be added to already exiting (right click) popup in MS (MAIP
screen)
31369
(ps Excuse terrible Paint job example)

As all exiting "components" already exists I assumed it should be fairly
"easy" to "join" them together.. It just may be naive thinking and I
also get that you must be fed up with all requests you are getting from
everyone.

Sort of replying to myself; Is it correct that "My Music" is *always*
first in the ["globalsearch", "items"] request? What I'm thinking is
that I could have the current search as is, but add a separate section
at the end of the results stating "Search on..." then list the other
items from ["globalsearch", "items"]?? The search results would be
(e.g.)

ARTISTS
First artist
A.N. Other Artist
ALBUMS
An album
TRACKS
Track 1
SEARCH ON...
Spotty
YouTube

I guess I could use that, but it means making multiple calls. What would
be *great* is a '["globalsearch", "items", 0, 200, "search:abba",
"timeout:15", "tags:..."]' which would automatically search all
providers (artists, albums, playlists (including tracks within), tracks,
YouTube, Spotify, etc) and return 1 response with loops for all - eg
artists_loop, albums_loop, etc. As well as returning meta-data as
requested by tags. I guess this'd be a lot of work, so not likely to
happen.

The issue I have sith SlimBrowse is that it only returns titles, not
meta-data - (e.g. track number, disc number, duration, etc). If
SlimBrowse commands would respect "tags" as per other APIs I'd find it
more useful.

Spotify/Qobuz etc.. (probably depending what plugin is installed)

AFAIK, there is no standard API for these searches.

There's the "Global Search" available, which would then allow you to
search a term in any of the search providers. You'd see this on a Touch
or Radio from the main menu's Search feature. If you were interested I
could look into the details of the implementation.

I believe with something like the following you'd get a menu structure
to follow:

{
"id": 0,
"params": [
"00:04:20...",
[
"globalsearch",
"items",
"0",
10,
"menu:1",
"search:abba"
]
],
"method": "slim.request"
}

Then you can follow the links to the sub-menus which would be local
music, radio stations etc.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] PiCorePlayer June 6th Download - pCP6.1.0 Standard Version - LMS 8.0 ?

2020-08-28 Thread Michael Herger

But, from what I understand, if you go to the PCP Download page and get
the Standard 6.1 release, this will automatically give you
LMS8 when you install LMS So, When I told this guy to download 6.1,
he had no idea he was using a development release.
So, what should he have downloaded?

Yes, I mentioned this risk before.

FWIW: I've released another update to the Qobuz plugin which should
address this issue by not only verifying the version number, but also
the availability of the necessary calls.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Plexamp bridge plugin ?

2020-08-28 Thread Mrpink200

Hello to all

I both love plex and lms :)
Plex (ios / Android) now have really good radios based on your music in
your plex server and can stream it to chromecast, Airplay ... and the
quite brand new plexamp (a rpi beta exists :
https://forums.plex.tv/t/plexamp-for-raspberry-pi-release-notes/368282)
As far as i understand, it could allow to stream hi res audio from plex
app to plexamp

Anyone find this interesting ? we have beautifull chromecast bridge
(limited to 24/96), upnp bridge (unsee by plex apps), airplay bridge
(limited to 16/44 i guess)... what about a plexamp bridge to stream hi
res files from plex libraries / client ?

i hope my question is not stupid :(
