Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Song Lyrics plugin will soon stop working due to musixmatch changes

2013-02-21 Thread Dave Dewey
Quoting erland (erland.5r4...@no-mx.forums.slimdevices.com):

Just for information to anyone using my Song Lyrics plugin, the Song
Lyrics plugin is likely going to stop working good very soon.

The reason is that musixmatch have informed me that they can no longer
support free API access, their minimum fee for a commercial agreement is
currently $20 000/year which is unrealistic for me to take out of my own
pockets and it's also totally unrealistic to get anywhere close to this
amount if I would try to start charging people for the Song Lyrics
plugin and give everything to musixmatch. I suspect we shouldn't blame
musixmatch for this, it's probably the music industry that requires them
to charge people who want to view lyrics, I think it's great that
musixmatch could offer lyrics for free for non commercial usage as long
 as they did.

So if you want to continue enjoying lyrics on your Squeezebox you now
have to put the lyrics in the LYRICS tag of your music files, the
advantage of that is that it's going to continue to work in the future
since you aren't dependent on an online service or plugin.

I'm really sorry for the inconvenience this is causing all lyrics
lovers, but unfortunately there isn't anything I can do about it.

If anyone knows another lyrics source that offers an API let me know and
I'll look into the possibilities to integrate that instead of
musixmatch. If it doesn't provide an API it's not an option because it
will require too much work and too high risk to maintain something that
parses websites to get lyrics data. Song Lyrics already supports lyrics
from chartlyrics.com but previously their data hasn't been as good as
musixmatch.com and they also have some legal issues which probably
results in that it's just a matter of time until that stops working too.

Thanks Erland for everything you do.

 genpuid [my-key] -r -logex -m3lib=cache.m3lib -archive /music

But as a return i get: -bash: genpuid: command not found

You need to tell bash (the shell) where genpuid is, since it's not
in your path.

To do this, use ./ - this tells the shell that the program is in
the same directory that you are in.

So from within the genpuid directory, you'd run this command:
./genpuid [my-key] -r -logex -m3lib=cache.m3lib -archive /music

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Problem with stream.mp3 and SqueezeScrobbler/Audioscrobbler plugin

2007-12-07 Thread Dave Dewey

I've been using SqueezeScrobbler on 7.0 for a while for my 'real'
players and it works great. I've had the new 'official' version
disabled because it causes double submissions.

However... now I'm trying to stream remotely and have it be
scrobbled. This seems to be a problem.

When I select my virtual player in the web Setup interface, there is
a Last.FM/SqueezeScrobbler setup screen but nothing in the drop down
menu, unlike the 'real' players which are populated with 'Default'
and my username. There is also a Enable SqueezeScrobbler on this
player checkbox, but checking it has no effect - likely because
there is no user entered via the drop down, and no way to enter one.

The logs show that SqueezeScrobbler 'sees' the track, but then bails
because the player is not setup to scrobble. Log excerpt follows
this post.

Is this by design, or a bug? This virtual player is static, in that
I use it a lot from work and it's on a static IP, so it's named in
the Web interface and is pretty much a 'permanent' virtual.

I also decided to see how the official Scrobbler plugin supported
it, but there is no setup information in the interface for either
the plugin or the player, so I am confused as to how this plugin
gets configured. I know this must have worked in the past, because
at one point I had the double-submission problem I mentioned
earlier...

Running slimserver-2007_12_05-1 via RPM install on Fedora Core 6.

Quoting martin.rehfeld ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

Regarding your problem: Your Perl installation does not seem to find
the strftime function. To my knowledge this is a standard function from
the POSIX libraries that should be available. You can try to prefix the
function call with POSIX making line 1768 of your version look like

 my $date = POSIX::strftime($fmt, localtime(time()));

That seemed to work. I'm not home to see the screen ATM, but the
errors that were being thrown every few seconds are no longer
appearing in the logs.

Additionally, you would have to check your Perl installation, if the
POSIX functions are available at all, try

 perl -MPOSIX -e 'print POSIX::strftime(%d-%m-%Y %H:%M:%S,
 localtime),\n' to test.

Seems to work:
perl -MPOSIX -e 'print POSIX::strftime(%d-%m-%Y %H:%M:%S,localtime),\n'

returns:

It didn't crash for me, but I experienced a very unstable CLI (and I
think I read that SlimFX uses CLI) on 6.5.1 here.
Just mention it because I use a Kurobox, which is more or less the open
version of the LinkStation, so maybe it just has to do with the PPC
 branch...

It crashed for me twice also. What's interesting is that Fat Gooey also
kills my server, and the similarity between them is that both are using the
CLI. If I had to guess, it's an instability in the CLI code. I'm running
Slimserver on a PIII and Fedora Core 4, 512 mb RAM. Just starting slimfx
caused the crash. I HAVE gotten it working now, with no changes other than
restarting slimserver, so it's not completely reproducible.

Ok, there shouldn't be performance issue on that box.

Could you please turn on d_cli and send us the last few lines from the

Well, it dies silently. Started slimfx, got the 'loading' dialog, then
started with a blank set of windows, no library data. Slimserver had died
by that point, but no messages.

Oh yeah, it crashed, or at the very least was in an unstable state. I
wasn't able to access the server via the web interface at all, even in
another browswer another skin (fishbone). I did a 'service slimserver

It failed because slimserver was already dead. Nothing in the message log
other than me restarting it:

And this is reproducable? Odd. Never happened before using SlimFX? Ok,
could you please run again and keep an eye on the slimserver process using

It crashes too fast for me to see anything happen, less than a second,
essentially as soon as I hit it with slimfx in a browser. I tried again
while watching top, but all I saw was the slimserver process disappear.

No, it never happened prior to using slimfx, but I don't mess around with
the CLI ever. Like I said, I got the same type of crash using Fat Gooey
also, but up until Saturday when I started testing FG and yesterday with
slimfx, everything was fine and dandy. And still is, until I fire up one of
those tools.

I saw your other message, and tried something different. I telnetted to the
port on the localhost that SS is running on, here's what I got:

Ran this:

This is the output from another session running SS from the command line:

So apparently it doesn't have anything to do with connecting from one
machine to a SS on another, it has the same effect on the localhost.

This is downloading your list of genres (well, only the first 1 genres

10 (genres 0 10)? Do you see the same problem with artists and albums?

Yep, happens with:

albums 0 10
albums 0 1
genres 0 100
genres 0 10

Segfaults each time.

Interestingly (or maybe not) the only thing that DIDN'T cause a segfault was
misspelling 'albumts 0 10.' Didn't return anything, but didn't crash either.

 Hi ddewey

Please try the modified .conf file. I've deleted the last four lines
for the VolumeUP and VolumeDOWN commands. These are repeat commmands
that might interfer with the remote already repeating.
Let me know what the reaction is now when using either the test button
 or the remote.

Felix, that got it! Thanks for the help!

The only issue left is that the remote doesn't work when pointed directly at
my SB, which is on top of the receiver. I think the receiver is getting
confused by the SB remote's IR commands and doesn't respond. If I position
the remote so that only the SB can see it, it works perfectly. That's not a
software issue though but a hardware one - I'll just shield the IR sensor on
the receiver so it can't get anything but from the blaster and it should be
fine. I don't use this receiver for anything but the Squeezebox.

Thanks again!

However there is a small difference: The 'test' button sends the code
once whereas pressing a remote button might cause IR blaster to repeat
the code, since the remote starts repeating itself, espeacially for
 volume up and down.

So my question is if you are using the remote does the volume change at
all? Meaning does it at least change one step?

Sorry to take so long to respond - I wanted to re-do the
learning/configuration again. I've now done so, with the same result.

Using the Slim remote doesn't change the volume on the receiver at all.
However, sometimes the receiver's display changes, from Stereo to showing
what the volume setting is, eg Volume +1. It never actually changes
though.

I've tried both 'tapping' the volume buttons on the Slimote and pressing and
holding, no effect either way. The 'test' button in the interface continues
to work correctly.

Could you post the learned codes? Sometimes it needs some manual
tweaking to make it work properly.

However, I'm a little stuck as to the best way to do this? I see an
iTunes Plug-in, but if I understand correctly, iTunes and SllimServer
must run on the same machine... that's not the case for me.

You could install Samba on the linux box, then mount your music directory
read-only to the Windows machines that need it for use with iTunes. Then
just tell iTunes that your music library is on the $M drive or whatever.
This is a _bit_ of a pain in the ass since iTunes doesn't add new music
automatically, you must manually rescan/import after you've added new music,
or use a tool like the iTunes Library Updater to do this for you.
http://itlu.ownz.ch

I do something slightly different, as my music is on a raid5 filesystem on
my Windows box, which I network mount to my Linux box to run Slimserver on.
Same concept. I still mount the music drive to other clients for use with
iTunes.

iTunes is available for Windows and Mac OS X... Isn't OS X Unix-like?
Would that version run on Linux?

No.
