Well the muso forum appears to be down at the moment (June 16, 2017) so
I will try posting my issue here.

Note: after looking at the issue below please don't tell me to uninstall
and then reinstall muso WITHOUT first telling me how save all the
preferences and configuration files, of which there are many.

Issue: muso will not start. returns the follow error - "Unable to

Alexa understands English letters since letters are used when requesting
a specific broadcast radio station, for example "Alexa play WKCR-FM". So
using "LMS" (el em ess) as the Skill invocation phrase should work.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2014-02-06 Thread ralphpnj

I finally decided to update from SBS to LMS and now it seems that SDT
is causing LMS to freeze.

Here's what happened:

I updated to LMS 7.7.3 and did a clear and rescan - a few problems at
first but I was to correct a few things and get everything working.

Once the library rescan was complete I updated several plug-ins,
including SDT and restarted LMS. Then all the trouble started.

Checked the server log files and found this:

So I stopped LMS and then restarted LMS in safe mode, i.e. with no
plug-ins enabled. I was then able to get LMS working.

I once again restarted LMS but with only the Super Date and Time (SDT)
plug-in disabled. Again LMS loaded and is working.

A few notes:

I use SDT along with the Custom Clock Helper plug-in to display weather
info on my SB Touch display.

Any help in how to get SDT and LMS to play nice together would be
greatly appreciated.

Wirrunna wrote:
slackhead and ralphpnj, thank you for the Muso suggestion. I have
watched the evolution of this impressive software for a while now and
tried it once or twice, however it does not suit the way I control LMS.
In my house LMS runs on a low power PC under the TV, the PC also
providing TV recording, video and DVD playback. LMS exclusively plays
music from its local library and uses SugarCube to continue playing
after starting with either an album or track.
LMS is started by Orange Squeeze on a Nexus or the LMS gui on my laptop
in the study. I normally leave a window open on the SugarCube Live View
so that little tweaks can be made to the playlist - usually adding
tracks suggested by MIP that SugarCube has not queued up.
The original reason for my first post in this thread was to identify a
plugin that displayed the extra scanned images and then to suggest to
the tablet developers that they should leverage the work done to enable
displaying the images on their tablet applications.

I'm not familiar with several of the devices/software you mentioned
above but perhaps this rundown of how I use MUSO will help.

I have MUSO installed on two computers, a large laptop located in my
main listening room and a desktop computer located in my computer room.
I also use the program Moose (http://www.rusticrhino.com/drlovegrove/)
to control the various Squeezebox devices. Since I have a rather large
music library the amount of memory required to run MUSO is also fairly
large (650,000+k) and so I do not use MUSO on a regular basis on the
laptop, however I do run and use MUSO regularly on my desktop computer
which has plenty of available memory. Nonetheless I tend to use Moose to
select and control the music and I use MUSO to view the extra scanned
images, to read any information contained in the info.txt files and to
view any additional information that shows up in MUSO's now playing
window. The reason I use Moose rather than MUSO to select and control
the music is that searching my music library database in Moose is much,
much faster than searching in either MUSO or LMS (I don't actually use
LMS, I am still using Squeezebox Server 7.5.5).

There are times when I do use MUSO on my laptop, especially when I am
listening to my Living room stereo for an extended time.

I hope this helps.

Is there anything Muso could do to provide specialist support for Jazz
music, that it doesn't do now? Are there multiple jazz genres you use
which you'd like to combine in a Jazz mode like the Classical mode
 does now?

I'm glad you asked because there is one thing that I've been meaning to
ask you about which might improve things a bit. I'll try to explain
things as best as I can.

When one is listening to a given recording, say one by Duke Ellington,
and one opens muso to the album now playing screen, along the right
side there is displayed More by this artist, which lists all the other
recordings in one's music library by the artist with the same name, and
below that By Similar Artists, which lists recordings in one's music
library by similar artists.

Okay two suggestions/questions/comments/whatever:

For the More by this artist listing - I've noticed that only
recordings by artists with the EXACT same name show up in this list. For
example when playing a recording by the artist Duke Ellington one only
sees recordings by artist Duke Ellington but not any recordings with
the name Duke Ellington as part of the artist name, e.g. Duke
Ellington John Coltrane or Duke Ellington Quartet. Is there a way
to add all the recordings by artists with Duke Ellington as part of
the artist's name?

For the By Similar Artists listing - first how are the similar artists
selected and second is there a way to override or add to the list of
whom MUSO considers similar artists. So for example when playing Duke
Ellington the similar artists list only includes Count Basie but not
Benny Carter, Benny Goodman, Ben Webster or Billy Strayhorn etc.
These four artists being but a small sampling of artists similar to Duke
Ellington.

Expanding either or both of these lists would greatly improve MUSO as
far as this jazz fan is concerned.

 You could change Duke Ellington  John Coltrane to Duke Ellington ;
John Coltrane with ; as a configured separator, so that this album is
associated with both those artists. For the second you could try making
Duke Ellington the Artist on all tracks and having Duke Ellington
Quartet as the Album Artist - not sure if that will work but worth a
try. Even unedited I would expect both to be recognised as similar
 artists though.

I thought this might be the case and I am partly to blame since I really
don't use the album artist tag in any meaningful way besides which I
would have to go back and edit the tags on most of music library, not
something I'm going to do anytime soon, if ever.

(it uses any with a match score of 0.7 or greater, this could possibly
be lowered for Jazz since Duke Ellington John Coltrane is given a

Again I thought this was the case. So that would leave several options:

1) Lower the match score.

That's funny since my favorite recording of The Rite of Spring has

 Jezbo,

Thanks for the info on editing the CSS - this has been a huge help!

Unfortunately I've been having a good number of problems similar to what
MDE reported back in post #901, where Muso seems to lose connection with
the player (SBT) / LMS. I frequently find myself having to reselect the
player for the Now Playing screen to update and to be able to queue up
tracks. (I also, on occasion, find after re connecting that the track
list for the current album will have two tracks highlighted as playing)

I've not managed to find any pattern as to why this is happening -
sometimes it will lose the SBT while I am browsing for more tracks to to
line up. This has been happening for some time now but seems to be
 getting more regular recently.

Another problem, which may well be related - sometimes when I select
Play Album Now the Queued Music list will show that the whole album
has been queued up but playback will stop after the first track.
Checking the LMS web interface shows that the remaining tracks have not
been queued as expected and I have to go back to Muso and re-select the
album. Again this happens erratically with no obvious cause or
 pattern.

LMS is on a separate networked machine running Fedora Linux - when I
test the CLI it always comes back as OK.

 Thanks.
 Richard

I also experience very similar problems - Now Playing not updating and
queued music only playing one or two tracks instead of the entire
album.

I am running MUSO on my desktop computer (wired) and my laptop
(wireless) and I use MUSO to view/control several Squeezebox devices,
some wired and some wireless. All computers, including the SBS machine
are running Windows 7. I have no problems with dropouts on any SB
device.

Thanks in advance for your attention to this issue and please keep up
all the good work. MUSO is fast becoming one of the premier computer
based music management(?) front ends currently available, truly a
pleasure to use, offering tons of useful information about one's music
and music library.

I have stayed out of this discussion, as I long ago recognised that no
program will suit everyone when it comes to tagging and tag
interpretation -- developers simply have to make a decision. That's
because, despite the ID3 standard and the like, no standard has ever
been universally adopted by all programs and devices.

Personally, I prefer programs that make no guesses about my files -- if
tags are blank, they're blank. Foobar2000 is one that works this way.

The main reason I prefer this is that, although I take great care over
my tags, I have developed a non-standard method of tagging over the
years. Not because I wanted my own system, but because so many programs
and (particularly) playback devices implemented a non-standard feature
 set.

For example, although it's considered bad practice, I have always
duplicated the Composer tag in the Artist tag (for classical music) --
because many portable playback devices default to showing the artist and
 refuse to show the composer.

Another example: I recently tried out Musicbee
(http://getmusicbee.com/), a PC music manager which seems to be highly
regarded by many people. The result was confusion (for me).

I have always left my Album Artist tags blank, because over the years
many programs and devices have used the tag in unpredictable ways.
Because my Album Artist tags were blank, MusicBee copied my Performer
tags to the Album Artist tags in its library, and also duplicated those
tags as Artist in its music browser. I had to create virtual tags to
make sense of my music collection.

So I quickly stopped using Musicbee, but the program obviously suits a
lot of people who are happy for the program to guess at the tags.

I do hope that Muso continues to make as few assumptions about tags as
possible. But I understand jezbo's dilemma.

Excellent post - very well reasoned and clearly explained plus
completely valid.

If only detailed tagging were better implemented along basic tagging for
popular music is pretty well set. Once one moves into other musical
genres tagging becomes more difficult. I really would like to have
musician listed on each of my many jazz files but the only way to get
that info into the tags to enter it myself and that is not going to
happen any time some.

I ensure that it points to the correct release before I let Picard write
the tags. If the correct release is not in the Musicbrainz database, I
 don't let it tag.

Here's an example of Musicbrainz being brain dead.

Frank Lowe, a tenor sax player who played mostly free jazz, has only
five recordings listed in Musicbrainz
(http://musicbrainz.org/artist/c12f22fd-7528-40c5-a429-c61820eaaeef) and
yet I have 16 albums with Frank Lowe's name as artist:

Billy Bang Quintet featuring Frank Lowe - Above Beyond: An Evening In
Grand Rapids

Billy Bang Sextet featuring Frank Lowe - Sweet Space

Dennis Gonzalez Band of Sorcerers featuring Frank Lowe - Live in
Washington, D.C.

Frank Lowe - Black Beings
Frank Lowe - Decision In Paradise
Frank Lowe - The Flam
Frank Lowe - Fresh
Frank Lowe - Live in Paris May 9th, 1978 (this one is a bootleg
recording)
Frank Lowe - Lowe-down Blue
Frank Lowe - The Other Side

Frank Lowe / Billy Bang Quartet - One For Jazz

Frank Lowe Quartet - Argouleme, France May 6th, 1978 (this one is a
bootleg recording)
Frank Lowe Quartet - Tricks Of The Trade

Frank Lowe Quintet - Live From Soundscape
Frank Lowe Quintet - Exotic Heartbreak
Frank Lowe Quintet - Soul Folks

Frank Lowe Trio - Vision Blue

In fact the links on the Musicbrainz Frank Lowe page for both Discogs
(http://www.discogs.com/artist/Frank+Lowe) and Allmusic
(http://www.allmusic.com/artist/mn175558) each have over 15 entries
each.

That is just one example of why I don't trust third party tags,
especially one's that do auto tagging.

You hit the nail on the head: I usually have the main MUSO display set

Remember that simply changing tags does not reset the file's time and

always do to ensure that the changes are scanned is rename the file and
then change the name back so that the time and date stamp is changed. I

a tag is changed. I did a quick Google search and here is something I

PS - I tried this and doesn't seem to work, i.e. change the time stamp,

rename the file(s) using a tag-filename format string and then change
the file name back using a different tag-filename format string.

seconds and then go into not responding mode for several minutes and
then will run for a few seconds and then back to not responding mode
for several minutes - over and over and over again. This is happening on
both computers, both of which were successfully running version 1.4.18

I've attached the muso.log file which was generated by trying to run
muso in debug mode, which also did not work.

but now I have been able to get muso to run and I've changed the SBS/LMS

First download the file SuperDateTime5.9.14A3.zip from this page
http://code.google.com/p/grebrown-projects/downloads/list

Next unzip the file, which will create a folder called SuperDateTime

Then copy the entire SuperDateTime folder to
C:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Cache\InstalledPlugins\Plugins - this will
overwrite the existing SuperDateTime folder which is what you want to
do.

That should do it.

Question 1: How does one generate a catalog for a specific genre or

Question 2: Can the generated catalog be shared or sent to another

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MUSO - Support Thread

2012-01-16 Thread ralphpnj

I've been using my licensed copies of muso for a couple of weeks now and
I had not run into any performance issues until today. Today I had to
replace my router and during the process the router changed my
Squeezebox Server IP address from 192.168.1.107 to 192.168.1.3 When I
tried to change this setting in muso (tools-options-music
sources-SBS-SBS configuration-host) muso was very, very slow in
responding. Once I did manage to made the change muso returned to its
normal speed and now everything is working just fine. Not a major bug
but annoying nonetheless.

My feature request is twofold:

1) Is there any way you might be able to add support for
reading/viewing any simple text files that are stored in the album
folder? I often have text files containing information about the
recording especially when the recording is not from a commercial CD,
such as live recordings. The ability to read these info files would be
greatly appreciated.

2) Is there any way you might be able to add support for viewing image
and pdf files which are stored in a sub-folder of the album folder? I
often have a sub-folder labeled scans or art or artwork
containing additional image files, especially when there are many
images, such as when I scan an entire booklet from a multi-disc set.

I thank you in advance for your consideration.

Are your album files on a network drive and is access to that drive

Is the scan you initiate from muso a scan of folders, or a synch with
Squeezebox Server? The latter is probably faster. When muso scans
folders, it is only looking for song files, not images, it only looks
for additional images when you view the album or now playing page. Are
you sure that muso can access the song folder at this point? Do you
arrange this via a drive mapping?

A view of the Options/Music Sources/Squeezebox Server page would be
useful, plus a view of how the track paths are stored in muso (from
your album view click on Edit Tracks, and ensure the File Path is
displayed and visible when you take the screenshot). We'll get this
 worked out.

To search for an artist or album you can enter the text to search for
in the filter. The by Artist view also makes it easy to visually scan
all artists in one cloud view and find the one you are interested in.

As per your request here a three screenshots for a currently playing

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Plugin for showing album info?

 Ralphpnj,

Does album review and biography work for you only with music library
and not music services with squeezecenter? The reason I was
initially having trouble was because I trying to get them work while I
was using Rhapsody. When I switched to my music library then album
review and biography worked from the duet controller. It seems like
they should also work when listening to music services.

 Shawn

My best guess about this is so is that the plugins are working through
SqueezeCenter and so they work when one is listening to one's own music
library. However, when one is listening to music services one is
listening through SqueezeNetwork and not through SqueezeCenter. I hope
that the SqueezeNetwork software can be upgraded to provide something
similar to album review and biography when listening through
SqueezeNetwork. I would suggest that you post something about this over
in the SqueezeNetwork section of the forum.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Plugin for showing album info?

2009-02-22 Thread ralphpnj

The plugins that come closest to doing what you're looking for are Album
Review and Biography (both by Michael Herger) and the most up to date
versions can be found here: http://www.herger.net/slim-plugins/

Both the Album Review and Biography plugin look and work great on the
Controller. I suggest you give them both a try. The information is
pulled off of All Music Guide and usually isn't as detailed has what
you're looking for but it is pretty convenient and can be very helpful
at times.

How do you see album reviews and biography pluggins on the duet
controller? I can only see them on squeezecenter but not the duet
 controller.

 Shawn

I got the album review and biography working with the duet controller by
pressing the center buttion in now playing. They don't seem to work
for me with Pandora which is why I was having difficulty at first.

You answered your own question as I was writing the following response
but I'll post it anyway so that others can see what you're talking
about.

On the Controller:

Home Menu (press center button) - Now Playing (press center button) -
which brings you to the Playlist screen (press center button) - which
brings you to the song info screen, scroll down list to see either
Album Review or Biography and press center button to select either
item. By the way, selecting Biography brings up another menu with
items like Read Biography, Arist Photos, See Also and another 5
items.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.67 (Windows frontend)

2008-09-02 Thread ralphpnj

Moose is a fantastic program and pretty much a must have for anyone
who wants to use a computer to control their SqueezeBox or Transporter.
It's much faster and far more versatile than using the SqueezeCenter web
interface. I suggest that if you're less than satisfied SqueezeCenter
that you give Moose a try.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] LazySearch and rescans

2008-06-11 Thread ralphpnj

Hi Ian,

I have had Lazy Search installed on SC 7.0 and 7.0.1 running under
Windows XP and have not experienced anything like the problems you seem
to be having. Unfortunately my computer skills are not anywhere near the
level required to trouble shot and solve your problems. Hopefully
someone else with superior skills and knowledge will be able help you
resolve this issue because Lazy Search is not only a nice plug-in but
it is the most essential of all the plug-ins. Absolutely indispensable.

 Thanks

I downloaded and installed the latest update to SuperDateTime and the
MLB game info now displays, thank you very much for the update.

As for the second part of your post, i.e any issues, yes, I still have
several other issues.

1) While the game info displays correctly (I use the NHL, NFL and MLB
features) I still cannot get SDT to scroll through the weather
forecasts correctly, as in, the way it used to work under SlimServer
6.5.4 - Note this is an issue with both my SqueezeBox and Transporter
displays.

2) On my Transporter STD with not scroll at all and the right hand side
of the display does not show any information at all, it simply shows
whatever was on the display during the most recent Now Playing
display. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say.

Thanks again for all you time and effort with this great plugin.
