Regardless of LMS version , any old plugin does not work anymore
including protocol handler , due to changes at Spotify 

So one need to remove all old Spotify apps and plugins and install the
new spotty plugin .

So have a look in the spotty plugin tread , read the first post install
spotty , if it does not work start a tread with the issues your are up
against .

running it off of an older LINUX NAS that only supports up to LMS 7.7.3.
Can I use this Spotify Protocol Handler and the Logitech's Spotify app
to listen to Spotify??

You do understand that you're in the wrong thread for Spotty discussion? 
But whatever: you should be able to stream multiple streams. Without

One more thing, you must be logged out of Spotify on any other devices

I'm far from an expert.  
You must still be logged in to mysqueezebox.com and have Logitech Media
Server version 7.9.1 installed and running.  
You can find that at 
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.9 at the top of the
list.  My operating system is Windows 10.  
You also must have a Spotify account and be logged into that account on
your PC.

For me it doesn't work. I cannot get any spotify accounts to
authenticate on the mysqueezebox.com spotify app. Is anyone else having

Not really part of the SPH plugin. But anyway: those menus are served by 
mysb.com. And yes, they come without the Last.fm love feature.



I think the Spotify's own web player can do this - does the LMS app
scrobble to LastFM ?


Yes, it should scrobble if Last.fm is set up in your account.

At first I didn't see it, then I notice it said attachment. I had to
click on the attachment to see the image you were referring to. Either
way its work now thank for the help, just have to remember to enter my
user name not an email.

I have, in fact I have uninstalled Spotify and reinstalled it a few
times

me an RPi to set up as a Plex/Squeezelite client to connect to my home
network remotely.

I've managed to set up Squeezelite. I've started forwarding ports 9000
and 3483 from my router to the server and this allows iPeng, local music
and BBC iPlayer to work peerfectly fine.

The remaining issue is Spotify (the standard helper). No music plays
when I start it, even though LMS shows the progress.

account credentials again after restarting the logitech server service.

I can see the Spotify App fine and my saved artists. However, when I try
to play an album on my SqueezeBox Boom, I get the following message in
the server log:
Plugins::SpotifyProtocolHandler::ProtocolHandler::handleDirectError
(179) stream failed - bad player: -1

Each track fails to play or doing anything at all.

Any idea on how to resolve this?

I went back and redid everything and voila, it works! ;)

Any idea what could have caused it to go from working to non working?  A
computer shutdown?  A power outage?  :confused:

Go back to the plugin's settings page and make sure the helper app is

No I don't. It just won't show up no matter what I do. Does anyone have

ssl-encryption. It should be very easy to sniff any spotify password and
do whatever they like.


You can use https://www.mysqueezebox.com. (yes, the certificate still 
listens to the squeezenetwork.com name, but it's there)

I dare not changing the password on mysqueezebox.com
The background is: My spotify account has been hacked. The hacker could
have easily changed all my playlists - wich is a desaster. Fortunately
he did not.
I see that mysqueezebox.com still is an http-Server without
ssl-encryption. It should be very easy to sniff any spotify password and
do whatever they like.

If it is the only way to get spotify on lms to work, this option has
just died for me.

Could you please confirm that I am not right and tell me a secure way to
get things going.

I already installed a new lms 7.9 and tried to activate the plugin, but
it won't show.

Hi David

You should be able to use WinScp to navigate to your Spotify cache, the
path is shown on the Settings page Info tab.

Strongly recommend completing the pinkdot instruction, also, if you
decide to stay with LMS on the NAS, perform the security update  for
SSODS. 

I see that you could use a Spotify app on the NAS for playback, maybe
install Philippe's UPnP/DLNA bridge plugin and stream to your players (I
think this would work ).

Otherwise it's LMS on a raspberry pi :)

The instructions from pinkdot were similar to what I had to do to get
the 7.9 update to install, but only adding the '9' to the routines.sh
file. I'm not sure if changing line 68 in shipped-binairies would do
much to get the plugin working. If anyone can comment on that, would be
appreciated.

And yes, its only spotify that doesn't work. Playing local files or
streaming radio stations or podcasts work fine.

I haven't tried deleting the spotify cache - I'll have to dig around and
see how to do that and give it a try.

I have tried every permutation I can think of though re: clean LMS
install (without protocol handler), re-entering password, and
uninstalling/reinstalling spotify on mysqzbx.com -- so far, nothing
seems to get it to work.

Appreciate your tips!!

Thinking a bit more...

when I have had problems with the Helper App not running I have resolved
it by re-entering my password for Spotify on the Settings advanced page
(and clicking apply, sometimes restarting LMS as well).

Have you tried deleting the Spotify cache?

or

a complete longshot

un-install the spotify protocol handler on the lms,

go to mysqbx dot com and un-install the spotiify app,

then log into your spotify account and log out of spotify everywhere, 

restart the nas and try again.


I can't think of anything else at the moment.

Hi Ronnie - thanks for coming back again on this!

I did try everything with the default installation first, but no luck.
In fact what initially drove me to seek the LMS upgrade was a hope it
might sort out the Spotify issue. :(

Not sure exactly what lines of code you're referring to, but Asustor
also makes use of FlipFlip's Squeezebox Server on XX, hence like on QNAP
I needed to amend the routines.sh file to allow the upgrade to 7.9. If
you're referring to something else though, do let me know as I'd be
happy to investigate further.

The more I look into this the more I suspect its coming from the Asustor
6104 being a 64-bit environment but LMS (and the plugin) running in
32-bit (or at least LMS does, but not the plugin). 

I'm afraid that statement tops out my technical knowledge...

did you try with the default v7.2.2  first and then upgrade to v7.9?.

when I have installed LMS on My Qnap I always started with the default
7.2.2, configured everything that I knew would work OK on the old
version and then upgraded to the new.

On the Qnap there were also certain lines of code to adjust for the
v7.9, I don't know if that is required for the Asustor.

Thanks Man in a van - the 9006 is just an artefact of having tried a few
different ports to see if I could get the helper app to start. It was
generally set to 9005 throughout my tests, with the needed firewall port
forwarding.

I should state that on my old QNAP setup, using this plugin, the helper
app was running and functional.

(Intel-based), I seem to be having some problems running spotify via
LMS. I've looked through the spotify threads here and on the Asustor
site, but so far no luck finding a fix.

One thing that's clear - I cannot get the helper app to run. I've tried
install/reinstall, logout/login (locally and via mysbx.com), change
port, and all permutations in between - never says helper is running.
See below for my screenshot.

I hope i've searched hard enough, but I couldn't find the information I
was looking for.
As I'm using LMS and Spotify several months per year at a location where
I have a limited data contingent, I was wondering whether the option to
store songs and playlists locally which the Spotify app offers for
Premium accounts can be used with LMS' Spotify plugins, too?

I read somewhere (probably in this thread) that Spotify synchronisation
between Radio and Touch is meant to work properly with the Spotify
Protocol Handler installed. When I tried it would only work when I
uninstalled the Spotify Protocol Handler. If synch is supposed to work
with the protocol handler what could I be doing wrong?

I use the wonderful LMS with soptify now for years, and in mist cases

to the next song every 10 seconds if I play Spotify on more than one

That's the unfortunate reality if you use any player other than 
Touch/Radio. You can't play on more than one at a time (except if synced).

Hi *,

I use the wonderful LMS with soptify now for years, and in mist cases

weeks I have the problem, that the Songs played with Spotify will jump
to the next song every 10 seconds if I play Spotify on more than one
Player. Using only one Player works fine, but immediately if i select a
song on spotify on a second Player, all tracks will be skipped on both
(or sometimes they stopped) after about 10 seconds.

I have installed only a few plugins, Spotify (Logitech) and Spotify
Protocol Handler (using advanced Spotify account). Installed the newest
7.9 LMS.

Does anyone else had such Problems and soved it ? I don´t know what to
do now...

No proxy, etc that I'm aware of. For reference, I just added 2 of your
other plugins,  Radio Paradise and Swiss Radio DRS. Both install and
uninstall. I noted however that the -name- of the "Swiss Radio DRS Meta
Info..." in the 3rd party list is "Radio DRS Meta Info...", but it
changes to "-Swiss- Radio DRS Meta Info" similar to the description 
wording. Is this normal behaviour?

Spotify and Protocol Handler both enabled.

Seleccted 'Settings' to the right of agree.

Entered my user name and password on next page.  The one below.  Still
no audio. 

WENT BACK TO THIS PAGE AND CHECKED 'ALWAYS STREAM VIA HELPER.' (IMAGE
NOT ATTACHED)  LOGGED OUT AND BACK IN OF SPOTIFY.  NOW IT WORKS!  LOGGED
IN, PASSWORD SET. NO ERRORS!
ANY OTHER ACTIONS NEEDED?

I checked my SB Radio and Spotify works.  The Boom is not working, but
I'll play with it some more. The LMS is okay now on my system. 
Checked.. Fixed volume is at 100%.

*I still question if I have a Spotify Premium account since I'm on the
free trial.*

use piCore based players. The usual Server Restart message is clicked,
but the plugin doesn't load. The VortexBox server has been rebooted
along with several attempts at loading the plugin. The VB is running
Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1488878280 @ Wed Mar 8 14:00:59
UTC 2017


Please enable debug logging for plugin.extensions and server.plugins. 
Make sure you check the "keep after restart" or similar box at the top 
of the logging page.


Then go through the process of installing the plugin again. Upload the 
server.log file here.


Once done disable debug logging again (with the checkbox enabled) to 
prevent it flooding your log file.

Yes, you'll need them both. And you'll need to go to mysqueezebox.com to
enter your Spotify username & password, AND activate the link. And then
you have to go to Settings/Advanced/Spotify Protocol Handler in LMS to
enter the credentials again. Yes, it's three steps. But unless you take
them all successfully this won't work.

Well, Spotify connect does not require you to have your phone on, or to
stop the music in your living room when you take a call in your study.
It's much closer to that way that iPeng works.

I agree with this although i use Ipeng rather than controller. 
I do hop that we can wrk out a soluition. I suppose that if the worst
cmes to the worst I may be able to use the spotify iphone ap and airplay
to play to my squeezeboxen but I think it would be a shame not to have
it spotify integrated with the local files (and t have to use two
different apps).

If some were to get spotify connect working with LMS, would that still
require the use of the spotify controller app. If so, I cant see that
it's much different from using airplay.

I guess I culd always migrate to deezer or Tidal, but since I have a
family spotify account this might cause ructions

I wonder whether Sonos have worked out a way of getting  the spotify app
to work after libspotify goes? I suspect not since they recently
incorporated spotify connect.

Again, thanks Michael.

95% of my music listening is via LMS/Spotify so it would be very
disappointing to lose the plugin/interface, I would probably have to go
back to Deezer (as long as that plugin survives!). I have found the
current LMS/Spotify-plugin in combination with the Squeeze Cntrl app to
be a very good interface to drive Spotify, its near all I could wish for
and far better, in my opinion, than the native Android Spotify app.

I don't have the skills to work on a helper app myself but anybody doing
so would have my gratitude!

Well they say the only constant is change but its annoying when change
means you lose something you value!

No. We don't have the source, and Spotify is likely going to turn the
whole thing off later this year anyway.


Do we lose the Spotify interface altogether?


If somebody comes up with a helper app using the Spotify Connect 
protocol, we might get it back. There are inofficial open-source 
libraries available to do that...

Thanks - so where to if they do turn it off? Do we lose the Spotify
interface altogether?

No. We don't have the source, and Spotify is likely going to turn the 
whole thing off later this year anyway.

Playing with DietPi on an Odroid C2, have LMS/Squeezelite running but
can't get the protocol handler running. have installed it a few times
(successfully) on RaspberryPi3 so I am familiar with getting it running.
Maybe there is an issue with the C2 being 64bit?


Check the status of the helper app in the settings pages. Most likely 
yes, the binary is not compatible with your hardware.

a - got it! had the error message on top: Couldn't resolve IP
address for: http://www.mysqueezebox.com
--> Replaced the DNS with my router adress, now I see the third party
plugins ;-)

I don't have any problems with Spotify :cool: my problem is to get this
Spotify Protocol Handler to work with custom-convert.

Hey guys, sorry for my stupid questions. Can anyone tell me where to
download the Spotify Protocol Handler? Just found the normal Spotify
Plugin. Can someone provide a link with installation hints?
My setup: Raspberry Pi 3 with hifiberry+ and Pi Zero w with PHAT DAC,
both installed with Picoreplayer, Win7 with LMS.
