I would recommend you to use Custom Clock applet instead of Information
Screen, it contains similar funtionality and works a lot better.

Erland (or anyone else), There's another post on the SB Server forum from several people asking for the equivalent of the 'RSS News Ticker' plugin for Touch etc for use as a screensaver. I have found the official Logitech Info Browser applet, but that just displays news pages and doesn't automatically scroll through different stories. Is this possible with Information Screen? It's not currently possible with Information Screen. As I just
mentioned in the other thread, I think the way to go is to integrate it
with the Custom Clock applet. The reason is that I consider Information
Screen more or less obsolete and replaced by the Custom Clock applet.

I've been unable to get this to work with either SqueezePlay or Touch. I've left everything as default, but filled in the 'Various Settings' folders. On the Now Playing screen, I get half an album cover (sometimes), and that is all. Hi, I like to use the duet controller as a info stick, so the mail plugin is fab. Things that will make it even better :) in order of preference mail appears on the controller in reverse order, so the latest mail is off screen. Can the order be reversed. There is a vertical scroll but as its a screensaver, can't scroll. Can't seem to disable the custom clock. Un Clicking all 'show in state' makes no difference. Hi, well, getting gmail on the controller is a great achievement, thank you. Works well with imap. However, can't seem to create a custom screen for either of the mail templates you've made. If I create a new mail screen click next then save, the screen then returns with only the original 3 screens no mail screen. Select Manage Screen and select to create a new screen. Applets have to be manually reinstalled after a firmware upgrade in 7.4. In 7.5 there will be an option to activate automatic reinstall of previously installed applets after a firmware upgrade. The only place Information Screen is shown in the radio is in the list of screen savers. ok... now the playscreen is displayed. 1. But i don't know how to get the Songnames with rating in there. 2. And another problem occured: Now the album-cover-mode in Information-Screen-plugin doesn't work any more. I allways get just a background-screen. Tried uninstalling and deleting the info-screen-plugin-dir in installed plugins and the files in the Screen configuration directory ... but it still doesn't show any album-cover in the Informations-screen-plugin. Don't know why, but the Screen configuration directory and the Screen templates directory are filled in directly after the new installtion. Perhaps i forget to delete some config file somewhere. There is a settings in player settings also where you can specify which group that should be shown on a specific player. The player will show all screens without a screen configuration group plus the screens with the screen configuration group that has been configured for the specific player. I've no idea why the Now Playing screen doesn't work, as mentioned earlier in the thread it's a bit of a hack so something might have change in the Logitech part of the code that breaks it. It's all screensavers, so it's not your issue One other thing. I have just been playing about and installed 7.5.0 latest nightly and Information Screen no longer works. Has anyone got it running with 7.5.0 or is it incompatible? Instead of the now playing screen I just get the wallpaper with nothing overlaid. Hi all, I have tried installing MIS both ways but cannot access the 'settings' page : - by ticking the check box in 'Recommended 3rd party plugins' from my Squeezebox Server web interface. - by downloading MusicInfoSCR-4.4.5.zip and unpacking it in /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Plugins (must be root). After one or the other or both together (and server restart), I can't find any MIS settings page whereas I can access other plugins (e.g. TrackStat). Also, the log file does not show any entry for MusicInfoSCR. Did I miss something ? Hi Erland, after a couple of days playing I have found 2 things which you may or may not be able to fix. Firstly, when powering off the radio with the Power button it now takes 2 pushes. The first exits Information Screen and the second powers down the radio. Anyway, or making the first push power down? Secondly, when I have long artist names or song titles they disappear off the right of the screen. Have you thought of supporting scrolling in this case (this the native Now Playing screen)? At the moment I've stopped all third party development on the Squeezebox platform, I'll consider restarting when Logitech shows some indication that they are going to prioritize supporting third party development. I'm afraid the Now Playing screen is a bit of a hack, it really requires custom code to be handled correctly. The real solution would be if Logitech allowed us to change the existing Now Playing screen but unfortunately that isn't possible a the moment due to licensing restrictions. I'm not sure what's needed to make an item scroll, it's kind of magic, some items scrolls and some doesn't. You say it will switch between all views in manage screens but I can delete or hide them, how? I only have the 3 default screens here, but do not know how to delete or hide them. Sorry if it is obvious! Also I have a screen configuration directory and a screen templates directory specified but they are not being used. The Screen configuration directory is still set to the default (the files didn't move when I changed this) and the template directory doesn't work as when I hit 'Download latest version of existing screens' in /Manage Screens it tells me I must specify a templates directory. Hi erland, are their any instructions on what the settings mean? I want a view just like the Radio default now playing screen but with ratings and the album year shown. I added the 2 fields (TRACKSTATRATINGDYNAMIC and YEAR) to the Information Screen now playing options but I get the view changing every 5 seconds between the default now playing, my custom view and the album art work. How can I only show my custom view? I just realize that this plugin is not working, when the server goes into hibernation (which mine is doing quite often). I guess this can only be solved, when the applet downloads all configuration and can run standalone. ahh - '.zip' is missing in the end. Installed the applet manually (using a Duet), but won't find 'Information Screen' in the Screensaver list (where at least I found my beloved analog clock again :) ) I look under the 'Now Playing'-screensavers. I can now install via applet installer and have it running. Here's what I found so far: - SC: Server-Config-Screen/Manage Screens: if I click on 'Download last version of existing screens', I get a message 'You have to specify a template directory before you can download screen templates'. I have done so under 'various settings' but this doesn't help. - SC: configuration screen is not intuitive to me #1: I only realized by chance, that I can click on 'Default/Album cover' (its not rendered as a link) to see further settings. I guess there should be a button 'change' beside each configured screen to make this more obvious. - SC: configuration screen is not intuitive to me #2: I think that the 'Only show in state' and 'visible number of seconds' option should be rendered (maybe even editable?) on the main config-screen (beside the screen-names) as a small table. Thus it would be clear on first glance, which screens appear where. I see that the screen-order used on the main config screen which is very nice. - SC: broken navigation in SC-settings: I'm on a configuration screen of a screen. There I don't have an option to cancel editing. In the top I see a navigation bar 'Main-Menu-Information Screen'. Clicking on 'Information Screen' gets me a blank page. In the lower end I see a 'Weiter'-Button (don't know the english translation), this will safe the settings and I'm back at the entry-configuration-screen. - Duet: The digital clock shown on idle doesn't match the Duets screen-size (see attached image). You can see that the time is over the currently selected (paused) song. However, download isn't supported yet anyway so please just ignore the download button for now. Now when the Touch and Radio devices has been officially launched, it feels like a good idea to open this applet for beta testing by more people. Please, note that this is still a beta version but I like to offer it for testing to get some early feedback and new ideas. I'm personally using it daily on both my Touch and Radio beta testing units and it seems to work pretty good. Besides the Touch and Radio it also works on the Controller and Squeezeplay Desktop. For everyone that have used the previous alpha versions, this first beta version is the same as the last announced alhpa versions. It's a plugin/applet combination that makes it possible to configure what should be shown on a screen saver. A little bit similar to what MusicInfoSCR does on Classic players combined with Saver Switcher to switch between different kind of information. The plugin is currently bundled with a number of templates: - A now playing screen where you can configure which information you like to show, as an example, you can configure it to show any title format supported by Squeeze Center, for example those provided by the Custom Scan plugin. - A clock with configurable time and date formats - A configurable three line text screen where you can add the title formats of your choice, adjust the font size and it shows them over the whole screen and doesn't show any cover art. - A cover art screen that shows the cover art over the whole screen - A screen template for showing random album covers from your library The default configuration switches between the now playing and clock screen every fifth second, but you can change this and use any of the templates provides. To install you will need to setup my usual beta testing repository url in the Plugins tab (Extension Downloader) in Squeezebox Server 7.4: Code: http://erlandplugins.googlecode.com/svn/repository/trunk/testing.xml After you have configured this you will get a Information Screen *Beta* in the plugin list which you will need to install in your Squeezebox Server. Then after the plugin has been installed, you will have to goto Settings/Advanced/Applet Installer on the Touch, Radio or Controller. In the Applet Installer you will also find a Information Screen *Beta* applet which you need to install. Finally, you will need to select the new Information Screen screen saver on the Touch, Radio or Controller. You will find the configuration in Squeezebox Server Settings under Plugins/Information Screen/Manage screens. KNOWN LIMITATIONS - The volume controls doesn't exist in the Now Playing screen since they needed more lua code than I wanted to write at the moment. - The screen saver polls the server every fifth seconds to check if there are any updated information, due to this it can take a few seconds before you see visible feedback on the screen after you have clicked a button in the Now Playing screen. - Clicking on album covers in the screen template that shows random album covers currently doesn't work correctly on the touch, it's supposed to start to play the album you click on. And in the same testing repository there is now also two plugins that enhances Information Screen with more template screens. MAIL PLUGIN = Indicate on the Touch, Radio or Controller when you have new mails in your mail box. It does this through the Information Screen screen saver. It should support POP3 and IMAP out of the box, if you like to use the SSL protocols you will need to install the Net::SSLeay module manually. MYTHTV PLUGIN (REQUIRES A MYTHTV BACKEND SERVER) == Plugin that will be able to indicate on Touch, Radio or Controller what's currently recording and what's about to be recorded in your MythTV media server. You will need the ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt and ~/.mythtv/config.xml files from your MythTV server if you run Squeezebox Server on a separate machine or as a separate user. You will need to setup the beta testing repository mentioned in the initial post in this thread to download and install these plugins into your Squeezebox Server 7.4. The plan is to enhance both these plugins so they also offer some browse menus to browse your mailbox or to browse TV guide and schedule recordings in MythTV. Currently I don't know when and if I'll get the time to do this, but it's still my plan.
