You'll see a screensaver listed in each of the 9 slots for each of the
three modes. I think SS starts out with the same screensaver in each
slot, e.g. When Off has Date and Time in every slot, with some duration
specified for #1 but the rest manual; When Playing has Now Playing in
all slots, etc. You only need to concern yourself with the screensavers
that have specific durations, and those you intend to use with button
control. For instance, I don't use a When Idle screensaver, so on my
system I don't bother with the SS slots for that. But for the others I
do, even though I normally only use two timed/active savers for When
Playing, and only one for When Off.

then you would set what you want. Maybe I'm not starting right because
of the differences with 7.2 I'll look at it again maybe I have another

that was the way it should work. I'm not the fastest with all this

Hmm. It should show stuff like

Screensavers when playing 1 (0:30) Now Playing 0:30 Now Playing
Screensavers when playing 2 (Manual) Now Playing Manual Now

Maybe I need to wipe my prefs double check that it's initializing

I've restarted it but no matter what I do it doesn't show any
screensavers in the slots. Maybe you could run me through it from the
beginning if you have time. In the main player menu what should I have
set for the 3 types of screensavers? I've put your's for all 3 and that
didn't work and I've picked 3 others and that didn't work either. None
show up in the slots, just time choices. I have button control enabled.

OK with a normal, clean 7.1 install, but I think some changes are

I ask as I would like time included in the Now Playing screen saver as,
if you are using an SB3 as an alarm clock it makes a lot of sense to be
able to see the time even after the Now Playing screen saver has kicked
in (and before anyone mentions it, I want the Now Playig screensaver to
kick in as I want to see what music is playing and see the time
 too!).
Don't know if you've already considered and discarded this idea, but
the MusicInfo screensaver can be set to do this. I have one of my SBs
that I basically use as a clock radio set to show Title - Artist on
the top line and Currtime on the bottom line. Works great!

This is the way I did it using the now playing button:

1. Locate the Default.map file in SqueezeCenter\server\IR directory
2. Copy it and name it something such as Custom_remote.map or similar
3. Open Custom_remote.map and locate section #playing display modes
4. Add the line now_playing.hold = datetime and save
5. In SqueezeCenter settings PlayersRemote change Remote Button
Functions to Custom_remote and hit Apply
6. Restart SqueezeCenter
7. Press and hold the now playing button on the remote while the player
is on.

To change the apperance I guess you have to change SqueezeCenter
Settings Advanced Date and Time Screensaver Settings.

There is a custom keymap bind you can associate to a key to show the clock
briefly. I used to have this assigned to nowplaying.hold.

Unfortunately, I lost the line, and can't remember how to do it.

These days, I use the MusicInfoScreensaver, configured to permanently display
the clock in the top-right corner of the playerUI when the player is playing.

Not unless you want to do some programming (SS has an API that would
allow what you want, but AFAIK nobody is using it that way). :-) You'd
have to do something like press 2 to show DateTime, and then 1 or
0 to go back to Analog VU (assuming 1 is Analog VU with a time set, 2
is DateTime manual, and 3-9 are also manual.
