Thanks for further reply and the information tcutting. Upon looking
again, and more closely, at Custom Clock (CC), it does look like it may
do what I want, and, yet another great admission, I was being dim - of
course the 'now playing' screen is what I see when a track is selected
(I'll just go and drown myself now - my excuse is too many players both
portable and computer based). I am very grateful for the pointer to the
fact that CC does not need to display a clock

I was aware that CC is not used for navigating and I am a user of
Erland's Custom Browse for that, along with the Custom Scan and
Multi-Library plugins as well, but I couldn't see when I was scanning
the documentation if CC can detect which library I am looking at, as the
Custom Browse menus can. That would be necessary to avoid some really
silly stuff appearing for non-classical music (Orchestra & Conductor for
starters).

I have now just checked my licence info on Erland's site, and as I paid
for the complete package (lifetime) I do have a licence for CC, so I
will experiment further - I do need to check out the Library support
though.

Thanks again for the help.

First, CustomClock has become much more than a way to display a clock.
It basically allows you to build custom screens which can then be used
as "screensaver" for various functions. I've created custom "now
playing" screens when the built-in screen just didn't work that well for
the application - I built a "PlayWithCoverandClock" screensaver for the
Radio which I use as my now-playing screen, because I wanted a larger
clock display... BUT, If I'd wanted, I could have built it with NO clock
showing at all. It allows you to build a screen view with graphics
(static, cover art), tag information, playing status, wireless strength
indicator, and even a clock if you want it.

CustomClock is NOT used for navigating (that is, if you are navigating
through menus on your touch). Once you select something to play, you
typically get a "Now Playing" screen. You can actually select the "Now
Playing" screen, and also a screen saver used "when playing" - these
could be different...

Suggest you try CustomClock - It's a "paid" applet, but I believe Erland
offers a free trial period. There are existing screens you can try to
get an idea of what it does, and these can be a good starting point for
creating your own custom screen. (You also need the CustomClockHelper
plugin on LMS to create and/or modify CustomClock screens).

Basically, I don't want a clock although a very small one in a corner
would be OK; I really want the whole of the 'Classical' information
displayed (Composer, Album (work), Track Title (Movement), Conductor,
Soloists if appropriate, Orchestra, Year). This also needs to be
displayed ONLY for items from my Classical sub-library (via Erland's
Multi-Library plugin). Looking at the Custom Clock info I'm still
unsure if this is possible.

I am also unsure if the 'Now Playing' display is actually what is shown
when you navigate to a folder and play all the tracks therein, as I
never actually go to a 'Now Playing' screen; but that could just be me
being a bit dim.

I guess that I am reluctant to use something that is described as a
clock to alter what information about a track is being displayed.

Why did you discount CustomClock? You cab create a custom Now Playing
screen.

Thank you both for your replies. After re-reading m1abrams post and
then my original post I think that the thread title is ambiguous at best
and misleading at worst; I was, as karlek suggests, only trying to alter
what is displayed, and was very surprised that there seems to be no way
of doing so (the Custom Clock doesn't seem quite appropriate, but thanks
for the suggestion kerlak). I will try just once opening a thread with
a new title and a slightly reworked opening post before I give up
entirely.

If it's only about changing the informations being displayed, have a
look at Erlands Custom Clock. With it you can at least change the Now
Playing-Screen. That would be point #3.
Today the user @Quadronado was looking for such a solution and is now
working on such a Custom Clock-Skin. Maybe you build a team?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Modifying the track info on a Touch

2016-04-03 Thread m1abrams

This may be possible through a plugin, however note one of the main
tenants of the squeezebox servers from the earlier days was to NEVER
modify the music files. So any plugin that did this would be going
around that tenant and not using any built in API.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Modifying the track info on a Touch

2016-04-03 Thread arthurb

I have used Erland's plugins to give me the menu structure I need for
classical music, but despite many different attempts I cannot get the
last thing I want (at present) to work. I want to change the
information shown for a track (or 'song') on the Squeezebox Touch while
it is playing. For starters, can anyone give me definitive answers to
the following questions:

1. Is it possible, with Erland's or any other plugin, to modify the
tag-data shown on the Touch display for a track that is playing?

2. Is it possible, with Erland's or any other plugin, to add to the
tag-data that is shown on the Touch display for a track that is
playing?

3. If this is different, is it possible to similarly alter the 'now
playing' display?

4. Is it possible to alter, or add to, the data shown in the 'header' at
the top of the Touch display when a track or 'song' is playing?

If someone could give an answer to these points, and perhaps a brief
pointer to which items to change, I would be very grateful. I have, of
course, looked at Erland's 'Setup browse menu for classical music' wiki
section, and that helped me get the menus working (after some
self-inflicted grief), but I see no effect when I try to add extra
information to the standard Touch display for a track playing.

Thanks in advance for any assistance,
Arthur B.
