Unfortunately Napster decided this wasn't important enough to include it in
their current API. Might be added later this year.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Napster working?

2011-02-14 Thread sle118

The 30seconds preview problem was resolved. However, the service is far
from being production grade at this point.

I did log ticket here
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16967

Here is what I posted:

Several Napster menus have problems.
- New Releases displays a page with no results, with the following URL
http://www.mysqueezebox.com/api/napster/v1/opml/new_releases
- Several albums are missing album art
- Clicking on a track while it is actually being played (from the web
client) displays additional details on the left pane. A line shows
Track for download only, can't be played. which is wrong, since the
track is actually being played. All tracks seem to be having this
issue.
- Going to My Napster/Albums show multi-artist albums (eg compilation)
duplicated
- Some performance issues are still being felt, especially during
week-ends or evenings

If anyone else is having the same issues or other issues, please add
comments to the bug and vote to get it resolved.

thank you!

2011-02-07 Thread dgovan

I got this reply on 28th January from Napster:-

Thanks for contacting Napster Customer Support.

We apologize for the continued problems you may be experiencing. At
this point, we believe the service quality issues are intermittent and
we will continue to actively monitor our service quality and make
additional improvements as quickly as we can. As stated in our email of
December 30th to all Napster subscribers utilizing a Sonos or Logitech
device with their account, we are working diligently to resolve the
recent performance problems as quickly as possible and can assure you
this issue is getting top priority.

We’ve identified and implemented immediate service improvements that
are already resulting in improved service quality. Simultaneously, we
are working diligently on a solution to provide enhanced reliability
and performance going forward. You can monitor on our progress through
Twitter (@Napster).

Thanks for using Napster!

Still doesn't work properly one week later though. I'm reluctant to
give it up as it used to be so good.

Is it because this doesn't affect US Logitech users that this is
getting such low priority?

Thanks for the update Michael. The advantage that Sonos has right now
is that they have a new API that wrks with Rdio streaming service. This
service is available in Canada. If squeezebox had such an allternative,
I'd just switch to Rdio. Has there been any talk of Logitech working
woith Rdio to develop an app? There have been lots of requests on the
Rdio board.

Increasing radio station timeout from 5 to 30 in SBS settings
apparently helped with the initial timeout. I'm wondering if this
trial account only gives me 30 secs of listen time per song / isn't a
full trial? Oops

Maybe this is geographically centred but since Christmas Napster via
Squeezebox is extremely limited as to the selection of music available.
I reckon only some 10% is available us. When I log into Napster direct
I can see and play everything but we are being throttled back. There is
an apology on their website but there doesn't seem to be any estimate as
to when the service will be back to being useable.

The thing that really confuses me is that it gives me 25 full plays on
the web (in fact I've used about 9 of them) - not all tracks have a 30
on the play button on the web... so I guess for trial via SB it is 30
seconds by default / no full plays whatsoever? The exact same track
that was a full play on the web was cut short on SB...

Anyone got any updates on how their napster is working ?

Up until today I have been able to get into napster ok but only managed

through in order when shuffle was selected).

However I am noticing that on for example an artist search only 10
albums are displayed and no more than the first 50 of my artists.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Napster working?

2011-01-04 Thread aubuti

Last night I played a couple albums straight through from my Napster
library. All was well-behaved, with no skipping of tracks or other
symptoms that others are reporting.

The browse lists in My Napster are still limited to the first 50
items (first 50 albums, first 50 artists, etc.). This is especially bad
for the albums, because Napster appears to list compilation albums as
separate albums for each of the artists. So the 2-3 compilation albums
that occur near the top of my alphabetically-sorted album list take up
almost all of the 50 album slots that are currently available.

This less-than-helpful handling of compilation albums isn't limited to
the implementation on SBs, because it's just the same on Napster's own
web interface. Otoh it's a relief to have browsing by album at all in
the Napster library, because that wasn't available in the old
interface.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Napster working?

2010-12-30 Thread aubuti

Fwiw, here is what Napster had to say when I emailed their support about
the problem. The -no later than the early Spring of 2011- is a
discouraging, but not necessarily worse than over-promising. They did
not respond to my request for customer credit as compensation for the
time the service is unavailable.

-Thanks for contacting Napster Customer Support.

Thank you for making us aware of the issues you are experiencing
accessing Napster through your Logitech device.

We want to assure you that we are aware of the continued and often
frustrating service quality issues that you’re reporting – and we
consider it to be below the standards of quality and reliability that
we expect for our service. Teams at Napster and Logitech have
investigated these issues and found room for major improvement in the
quality of our integration. To that end, we’ve been working with our
partner Logitech on rebuilding the experience from the ground up to
ensure that these issues are resolved and that we can continue to
deliver on the promise of music everywhere.

We are actively investigating service enhancements, and will continue
to communicate our progress in the coming weeks. We are focused on
bringing a solution to our customers as soon as possible, and no later
than the early Spring of 2011. We appreciate your continued patience
while we make the necessary changes, and are looking forward to
providing an improved service experience for our Logitech customers
very soon.

Thanks for using Napster!

I just got an email from Napster with the comment that Napster is aware
of issues with their service with Squeezebox and Sonos devices and that
they are giving me a free month as an excuse.

And no, I did not contact them myself, looks like they are sending this
to all Squeezebox and Sonos users.

Never mind. I see it's the same. The various browse lists in Napster
(artists, albums, etc) appear to be truncated, but at least I'm getting
something. Thanks. And it's great to see that Napster's new API can
browse by albums, which was one of my biggest annoyances with Napster.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Napster working?

2010-12-26 Thread jlangford

My SqueezeBox boom and Napster subscription are both only one day old,
and I'm slightly bummed that Napster didn't work out of the box. But I
suppose the squeezebox is an excuse to do some hacking... I stumbled
across these forums, tried what was suggested, and managed to get
things to work. Since I'm new to both SqueezeBox and Napster, I don't
know if the functionality is correct, but things appeared to work.

I had to modify the Perl source code SqueezeNetwork.pm because it was
looking up two different preferences keys, 'use_sn_test' and
'use_test_sn'. When the test servers are actually used things seem
ok.

Can you let us know when the changes will go into the production
servers?

I have tried this, and although I can now see Napster in my Apps, when I
try to connect to play any songs, it just throws me back to the menu
screen.

Maybe I will just leave it until it's been tested.

What do I have to type into the telnet session to put it back to
normal? (i.e. non test mode).

Thanks

Ok, latest news from Napster is that the API we're using is running on
machines which are reaching their limits. We're now working on moving to

The implementation is mostly done. We still need to test it though. If you
want to give it a try, connect to test.mysb.com. What device are you
using? Are you going through Squeezebox Server or mysb.com directly?

I didn't know you could increase the timeout (as opposed to the buffer)
for mysqueezebox.com. Can you help me to find how to change this? If I
look under players in mysqueezebox.com I can change the buffer size,
but not the timeout to make a connection?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Napster working?

2010-12-12 Thread asdti

There's a thread on this in the Logitech forum, and another one on the
mysqueezebox.com forum here. the consensus seems to be overload at
Napster. A workround for squeezebox server is to increase the timeout
setting. I tried 15 (and then 30 secs) which has helped a lot. Default
timeout is 5 seconds, and I noticed that even the native napster web
app takes more than 5 seconds a lot of the time.

It doesn't help at mysqueezebox.com though.

If anyone needs help on locating the timwout setting, then hit reply.
