Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: [Announce] SlimRemote 1.0 beta 2
I can't tell anymore because I can't run SlimRemote now! Open the SlimServer web interface and clear the playlist for your player, or turn the player off. SlimRemote then should be able to start. The problem only occurs when it tries to display the cover artwork - which it won't if there's nothing to play. Right click - properties in the browser interface shows cover.jpg (or http://192.168.123.2:9000/music/51/cover.jpg to be pedantic). So this seems fine, even if you're using folder.jpg. I assume artwork is fine in the web interface? There's been a report by another use having problems with folder.jpg: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26568 Do you see similar behaviour? -- Michael --- Help translate SlimServer by using the SlimString Translation Helper (http://www.herger.net/slim/) ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: [Announce] SlimRemote 1.0 beta 2
Slimserver looks for album art with the names cover.jpg, albumartsmall.jpg, folder.jpg, album.jpg or thumb.jpg. As I understand it they are all treated alike, I myself use folder.jpg (since that's standard for some tagging programs) with no problems. In addition, SlimServer lets you specify variable names built from the tags, using the % prefix. For SlimeRemote to handle this good, it should accept all the standard names SlimServer does. For it to be perfect, it should read the SlimServer configuration for these extra settings for album art and thumbnails. When it comes to problems with folder.jpg, maybe it's a clash with some Windows Explorer use of folder.jpg for showing files/folders as icons? -- tommypeters SB3--Meridian G68--NuForce Ref8--Bc Acoustique ACT A3 tommypeters's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6528 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25256 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

For SlimeRemote to handle this good, it should accept all the standard names SlimServer does. SlimRemote (without the e ;-)) doesn't care about the file names. In a client's view (web interface) it's always cover.jpg (full size) or thumb.jpg (small size), no matter what files actually are called. My folder art doesn't suffer from the problem reported in the thread you linked me to, it displays perfectly in the web interface. Thanks for the tip on clearing the playlists. I can now get SlimRemote running and the Server settings show the address as 127.0.0.1 and the CLI port as 9090192. I just tried changing the Server IP address to 192.168.123.2 (the address of the server machine, even though this is the same computer on which SlimRemote is running) and now the artwork displays perfectly. I guess it didn't like that local loopback address for some reason. Thanks for the help in debugging this. Thanks for the tip on clearing the playlists. I can now get SlimRemote running and the Server settings show the address as 127.0.0.1 and the CLI port as 9090192. I doubt this to be correct: ports have to be =65k. You meant 9090? Can you confirm this: it does _not_ work with localhost, but does with the real IP? Did you test with the same album as before? I guess it didn't like that local loopback address for some reason. I doubt this to be correct: ports have to be =65k. You meant 9090? LOL! What you saw was me debugging the problem in real time. As I was typing in the IP address and port number into the post for you it occurred to me to try changing the IP address to the explicit adress of my PC but I forgot to change the focus of my window to SlimRemote so that 192 at the end was actually the first 3 characters that I meant to go into the address field of the SlimRemote settings window. Anyway, as you guessed, those last 3 characters are spurious and the correct CLI address is 9090. I just tried changing the Server IP address to 192.168.123.2 (the address of the server machine, even though this is the same computer on which SlimRemote is running) and now the artwork displays perfectly. Can you confirm this: it does _not_ work with localhost, but does with the real IP? Did you test with the same album as before? Yes. I can definitely confirm this. I changed it back to 127.0.0.1 and also to localhost and in both cases accessing an album that displayed perfectly with the IP set to 192.168.123.2 caused the same IO errors as I originally reported. Changing the IP address back to 192.168.123.2 gets me back to it working perfectly again. It's odd but I'm not particularly bothered about it, except from having the slight worry that something is broken in my networking stack somewhere, but all my networking operations seem to work OK. - Julian -- JulianL JulianL's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1088 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25256 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

I'm impressed. What a great piece of software, and you can't argue with free. Thanks Michael. I do have a bug to report however. Could it be that SlimRemote doesn't support album cover artwork stored as folder.jpg files in the album directories? I get an ewe.io.IOException if I do the following: 1) Go to the Music tab 2) Select Artists from the drop-down box 3) Double click on an artist and SlimRemote then displays the album list OK. 4) Click on a specific album and I get to the album details and see the track listing OK but the album coverart image is a big question mark and I get a pop-up window that says: ewe.io.IOException at ewe.io.StreamObject.readStreamObject.java at ewe.io.BasicStreamObject.readBasicStreamObject.java at ewe.net.HttpConnection.makeRequestHttpConnection.java at ewe.net.HttpConnection$3.doRunHttpConnection.java at ewe.sys.TaskObject.runTaskObject.java at ewe.sys.mThread.runmThread.java I tried it with a few different albums so the jpgs aren't corrupt or anything. I am running the latest (just downloaded) statically linked binary on WindowsXP. My Slimserver is running on the same system and is version 6.2.2. I also made the mistake of going to a screen that tries to show what is currently playing and that tries to show artwork and crashed SlimRemote too. Unfortunately SlimRemote now has that page set as the start-up page so as soon as I launch SlimRemote it immediately crashes. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: [Announce] SlimRemote 1.0 beta 2
Hi Michael, I'm afraid it's something much more subtle than a general networking problem. I say this because: 1) Surely the fact that SlimRemote displayed my artist list and allowed me to see the list of albums for each artist demonstrates that it can contact the server. 2) It is all running on the same machine where my SlimServer is running. 3) I also run SoftSqueeze on this same machine and that works perfectly. 4) I can access the SlimServer web interface from this machine (and it is running on the default port 9000). I can also access the system from all other computers on my network so there's no firewall blocking. You say that you expect a file cover.jpg. What happens if the files in the music directories are actually called folder.jpg? The SlimServer web interface handles this fine. Does the name just get translated to cover.jpg at the server? If you're convinced it's a network error (I'm not, for the reasons mentioned above) then could it be something more subtle like a buffer overrun when the coverart jpg is downloaded? - Julian -- JulianL JulianL's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1088 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25256 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Julian, I'm afraid it's something much more subtle than a general networking problem. I say this because: I agree: it's not a general networking issue. I rather thought of a communication problem on port 9000. What server setting are you using in SlimRemote? localhost or something else? 1) Surely the fact that SlimRemote displayed my artist list and allowed me to see the list of albums for each artist demonstrates that it can contact the server. While almost all communication passes by port 9090 (CLI), the coverart is downloaded using standard web requests (eg. http://myserver:9000/cover.jpg or similar). 4) I can access the SlimServer web interface from this machine (and it is running on the default port 9000). I can also access the system from all other computers on my network so there's no firewall blocking. That's fine then. You say that you expect a file cover.jpg. What happens if the files in the music directories are actually called folder.jpg? The SlimServer web interface handles this fine. What's the image's url within the browser? Right click - properties or similar should tell you. Does the name just get translated to cover.jpg at the server? I thought so, yes. cover.jpg is the full size image while thumb.jpg is a resized version. then could it be something more subtle like a buffer overrun when the coverart jpg is downloaded? How large are these images? I'm using rather small full size artwork ( 500x500px). Maybe I'll add server side resizing for 6.5 server. But this wouldn't help you. -- Michael --- Help translate SlimServer by using the StringEditor Plugin (http://www.herger.net/slim/) ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

I'm using rather small full size artwork ( 500x500px). Not huge. All my cover art is normalised to 256 x 256 pixels. Right click - Properties in the web browser shows a typical file to be 17796 bytes and since I used the same procedure to normalise the size of most of my files then I suspect that is highly representative of all of them. - Julian -- JulianL JulianL's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1088 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25256 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
