[SlimDevices: Plugins] Itunes Update

2020-10-15 Thread TimM

I've recently had to move computers and I can't get itunes update
working on the new one.

Basically everything is the same as the old computer in terms of Perl
version, file location etc, so it tries to run, but I get this message

c:\itunesupdate>itunesupdate.pl "c:\itunesupdate\itunes_hist.txt"
usage: TrackStatiTunesUpdate.pl [loop
seconds]

I've also tried

c:\itunesupdate>TrackStatiTunesUpdate.pl
"c:\itunesupdate\itunes_hist.txt"
usage: TrackStatiTunesUpdate.pl [loop
seconds]

On the off chance that there is still one user of this plugin - does
anyone have any idea how to get this going again?

Same deal here. I think it has to do with the ItunesUpdate.pl using
some form of GMT instead of localtime, but I'm not sure where this
should be changed in the script. Hard to test since I'd have to update
both the txt file and the test copy of my iTunes library each time.

far it's been solid.

i did notice that if you have any old protect itunes tracks (.m4p) that

Thanks WhaleOil- i think that's probably the case, I removed the plugin
from both places, restarted SC, reinstalled from the plugin repository,
and it worked. tried editing the install.xml file as you suggest, and
after editing the plugin stopped working. uninstalled, reinstalled a
few times, and it's back now. more over, cover art is once again

all seems to be good.

Hi all,
I had missed updating one of the plugin version numbers (I said it'd been a
while) and I think that was causing the plugin to think it was still out of
date.
I've updated the version on my website.

Nice to know people are still using it!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update plugin and LMS 7.7.1 problem

2013-06-25 Thread WhaleOil

Hi netchord

I am not sure why this is not working for you. It should work if you
install the plugin folder in either location. Is it possible you have
it installed in both places? Have you copied the complete folder and all
of its sub-folders? Is the iTunesUpdate folder showing up in either the
DownloadedPlugins or InstalledPlugins folders within your Library/Caches
folder?

There is a bug in the new version of the plugin (2.9.0) that is stopping
the normal repository download method (from the plugins tab) working
properly as the system keeps thinking it needs to update to a new
version and it ends up going around in circles. I think this is because
the install.xml file in the iTunesUpdate folder refers to version 2.8.3
instead of 2.9.0. The installed plugin should still work though. Might
be worth manually changing the version number in this file and see if
that helps.

Do you get a message that plugins need updating from the home page of
the web interface? This would explain why it no longer shows up in the
lists of available plugins. If you turn off the 'download updated
plugins automatically' option then you should see iTunesUpdate show at
the top of the page.

Sorry I do not have any definite answers, but hope this helps.

James- thanks very much for this.
the install instructions state:

-On the Mac the plugin needs to be installed in
~user/Library/Application Support/Squeeze Center/Plugins (if SC7 is
installed for just one user)
or
/Library/Application Support/Squeeze Center/Plugins (if installed for
all users)-

On my system, with a single user, running Mac OS 10.8.4, iTunes 11.0.3,
SC 7.7.2, there is no Library directory in the ~user folder, nor is
there a Squeeze Center directory in the Library folder at the system
level.

I created the latter, created a Plugins directory as well, and restarted
SC. I also added iTunesUpdate from the Plugins page in the SC Plugins
tab in the web interface, and upon restarting got a message that the
plugin failed to load.

i then tried installing the iTunesUpdate folder in the directory where
all the other plugins appear to be located (see my prior post):

Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/contents/server/Slim/Plugin/

restarted SC, and voilá, the plugin loaded, and i was able to adjust
settings, and check the box for direct update. however, it does not
(appear) to work, as play counts in iTunes are not updated.

iTunesUpdate does appear as a menu item in the Extras menu of the SC web
interface, but nothing shows as playing. i tried uninstalling the
plugin in the web interface tab, but after unchaecking the plugin,
applying the change, and restarting. it's still there.

i have not yet removed the directory manually, but will try that in a
bit. sounds like it may be in the wrong place, or it's in the right
place, but perhaps there are lines of code that reference the directory
structure listed in the instructions?

small update; removed and reinstalled the plugin in the plugins
directory of the SC webinterface. unchecked direct update- the
instructions are counter-intuitive, but it appears to say that if you're
running on a non-windows OS (ie, OSX) to set direct update to off; not
clear if this means direct update is not supported.

now playing is now showing the currently playing track, but says play
count unknown, and all other attributes are listed as unknown as well.

here are the settings that work:

*Download iTunesUpdate from James' site
*set SC auto-restart to off (ie, do not auto-restart on boot or login
*Copy iTunesUpdate Folder to
/Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/contents/server/Slim/Plugin/
*install iTunesUpdate from the plugins tab in the SC web interface
*restart server
*check direct update button in ItunesUpdate settings, click apply

does SqueezePad. on the Touch, navigating to Extras--iTunesUpdate--

That's great - many thanks James and cosmotic. It's working fine for me
on a Mac (Mountain Lion) and v7.8 of LMS with one oddity. It ignores any
track with an apostrophe in the path name (artist, album title or track
name). It doesn't crash, and continues to process and update subsequent
tracks as long as they are free from apostrophes.

Would you like a log excerpt to cover that?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update plugin and LMS 7.7.1 problem

2013-06-24 Thread WhaleOil

Hi netchord

Just a few (hopefully helpful) comments on your installation approach:

- Installing in the directory
/Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/contents/server/Slim/Plugin/
as you suggest will work, but you will need to reinstall the plugin if
you update to a new version of the server software as this directory
will be overwritten by the installation of the new version. (As an
aside, because you are using Mountain Lion, it would be worthwhile
updating to the beta of 7.7.3 or 7.8 because this will stop your server
going to sleep while it is playing music/radio.)

- Better to use the ~user/Library/Application Support/Squeezebox/Plugins
as the install instructions suggest... The trick is that you do have a
Library folder in your User folder - it is just hidden by the operating
system (this was a new 'feature' introduced in Mac OS X 10.7 and later).
To reveal your ~user/Library folder, the easiest way is in Finder,
click on Go in the menu bar at the top of the screen and then hold down
the alt/option key. As if by magic, your Library folder will appear in
the menu, click on this and you can then navigate to the folder you
need. You will find all sorts of interesting stuff in the ~user/Library
folder, but best not to mess with it or your funny things can happen to
your system - maybe this is why Apple felt the need to hide it?

- If you install the plugin from the usual plugin tab it will appear in
~user/Library/Caches/Squeezebox/InstalledPlugins/Plugins (your other
third party installed plugins should be here already if you have
installed any). Manually installing the iTunesUpdate folder to this
folder should work as well. Not sure why installing from the plugin tab
said failed to load for you - may be that you restarted before it had
downloaded from the repository? (When the plugin is downloaded, but
before it has been installed by restarting the server it should appear
in ~user/Library/Caches/Squeezebox/DownloadedPlugins.)

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

note, this is where all other plugins are located.

I'd also like to know - I think it's a useful little gadget.
Should it work on a NAS (i386) installation ? What's the name of the
file that iTunesUpdate creates, and where does it store it - for iTunes
to read ?
Thanks !

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update plugin and LMS 7.7.1 problem

2012-10-09 Thread WhaleOil

As I started this thread I should report that I still have not found a
way to make iTunes Update work with versions of LMS after 7.5.6. I have
now taken the decision to update LMS anyway and stop using iTunes
Update. I now use Trackstat/Custom Scan to export a text log file and
then use an AppleScript to update iTunes. Although this is less
convenient in some ways, it does have the advantage that iTunes does not
have to be running all the time on my server which seems to help things
run more smoothly. Play counts, ratings and last played dates can be
updated in this way, but track skipped information cannot as Trackstat
does not record these.

Credit for the original AppleScript should go to another poster on these
forums... I will post a link when I track it down again myself.

Sadly my 2005 PPC Mac mini is very ill and so I've had to replace it and
try to set up iTunesUpdate on a new mini running OS X 10.8.2. I now have
the same problem of it crashing LMS.

Initially I had problems with the Glue installation and have discovered
the instructions need updating for OS X 10.8. The first step needs
changing from:

1. Install 'Developer Tools' from your OSX DVD

to:

1. Install 'Xcode' from the Mac App Store
Run Xcode, go to XcodePreferencesDownloads and install 'Command Line
Tools'

Then the rest of the instructions apply and worked fine for me.

However running iTunesUpdate 2.8.3 results in the server software (I'm
running LMS 7.8.0 - 1348834198) crashing immediately after updating the
play count and before updating the date. I've upped the logging levels
but all I see is:

Does that move this elderly thread on any further?

Is there anything else I can do to provide useful information?

Or has everyone else given up and moved on from this plugin?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Itunes Update Time Problem

2012-04-22 Thread BillH

Hello

I'm using LMS 7.7.1, Itunes Update 2.8.3, and Itunes 10.6.1.7. It seems
to be working okay except the timestamp (in Itunes) for when a song is
played is off by -6 hours. As a note, my local time zone (MST) is -6
hours behind GMT, and I'm wondering if that isn't a coincidence.

I recently listened to a song at 1:20 in the morning. It shows up in
LMS as being played at 1:20 a.m. When I look at Itunes, it shows it was
played at 7:20 pm (the day before)

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

-Bill

[SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update plugin and LMS 7.7.1 problem

2011-11-19 Thread WhaleOil

I have just updated to LMS 7.7.1 from 7.5.6.

All seems to be OK except that the iTunesUpdate plugin now completely
crashes the server whenever it is activated (i.e. at the end of each
track, or when trying to access info from interface). The crash is
definitely causes by this plugin as removing it makes everything work
OK (except iTunes doesn't get updated of course!)

This is on a mac running OS X 10.6.8

Is the iTunesUpdate plugin working under LMS 7.7 for others? Anyone
else having this problem?

Many thanks

I got it working.by getting an Apple TV and ditching the squeezebox.
No more trying to get my system working, I'm actually spending time
listening to music the way I want too! $99 and I already have an iPad
so I can control iTunes remotely and send it to the ATV. I have a
system that does what I want in about 0.01% of the time I've spent
trying to get squeezewhatever to work.

See ya!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update

2011-05-23 Thread Craig, James
I actually had a problem track myself at the weekend so maybe this might be
relevant;
I had a track with no album set in iTunes, but the mp3 itself contained ID3v1.1
tags which had an album name.
The album was then showing up in SlimServer and breaking the plugin's search of
iTunes.
To fix the problem I had to force iTunes to overwrite the v1.1 tags - changing
any other version had no effect!

I can't figure out why it won't take on this album or the several
others. The ' looks normal. I ran the track thru TuneUp which is
supposed to fix identity of tracks and still doesn't work. Thanks for

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update

2011-05-08 Thread Craig, James
That does imply some sort of discrepancy between the MP3 tags that SlimServer
is reading and the meta-data that iTunes is using. Do you see anything
obviously wrong when you look the Get Info screens in iTunes? Maybe different
types of apostrophe?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update

2011-05-04 Thread wcburnette

James,

Thanks. Your plugin makes squeezebox work for me.

When I put in the whole string The Beach Boys Made In U.S.A. Surfin'
USA into iTunes search, I get nothing. All the other songs from that
same album behave the same way, ie do not show as played after
playing. Do I need to change the tags on them? As I said above, all the
songs are from an iTunes generated playlist and most stuff imported with
iTunes(including this one via v4.1).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update

2011-04-26 Thread Craig, James
The first track has accented characters so I'm not really surprised it wasn't
found.

But the 2nd looks pretty simple - what happens if you type
The Beach Boys Made In U.S.A. Surfin' USA
Into the search box in iTunes itself? That's essentially what the plugin does
to find the tracks...

Those warnings shouldn't stop the plugin from working. (Although I am sure I
have fixed them already)
Slow startup time may indicate a problem opening iTunes from the plugin.

Thanks James

iTunes isnt running on the Atom server - I just have a copy of the
Library.xml being referenced.

None of the options are 'set' within iTunes Update. I just copy over
the iTunes_Hist file over from the server and run the update on my main
machine every week or so and then export the Library.xml again.

The library is quite large - approx 20,000 tracks

Hi,
First suggestion would be to change the plugin.iTunesUpdate logging setting to
Debug to see what's really happening.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update not working correctly under OSX

2010-03-22 Thread -tm-

Hi,

I'm having trouble getting iTunesUpdate to work properly.

Installation:
I'm running on a new iMac under Snow Leopard. Squeezebox Server,
iTunesUpdate, TrackStat, CustomScan and SugarCube (all installed via
repository) and iTunes are all up to date. Developer tools and Glue
(force install first, later updated successfully without errors) have
been installed. No tweaks have been applied i.e. standard settings.

What is working and what is not working:
+ In Squeezebox Server there is the new iTunesUpdate entry.
- The iTunesUpdate info page does not show TrackStat ratings.
+ iTunes gets automatically started after half a track is played.
+ The play count in iTunes is updated.
- The play count increases by 2 instead of 1.
- When playing a playlist or album the play count increases only the
first track, and this track will get a count of 2 added for each other
track played.
- No ratings are transferred to iTunes whatsoever.
- Using the Direct Update option does not change this behavior except
that iTunes will not start automatically.
+ No errors show up in the server log.

I'd be glad for any help.
Thanks,
Thomas

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update on SB Controller/SqueezePlay

2010-01-05 Thread Craig, James
The Controller menu mysteriously stopped working on SC 7.4,
I have been working intermittently on fixing it but I don't have a finished
version yet.
Using TrackStat to rate tracks should work as Erlend suggests.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update on SB Controller/SqueezePlay

2010-01-04 Thread barcar

Should James' iTunes Update plugin work on the SqueezeBox Controller?
I'd like to be able to set track ratings with my new toy!

Looking at the plugin code there are some references to Jive and some
commented out menu code so maybe somethng was started? When I try and
use it via the controller or SqueezePlay I get an empty iTunes Update
menu under the Extras item while playing.

My ideal UI would be a facility to view and change the current rating
via the now playing track info (like the LastFM and Pandora
integration).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update on SB Controller/SqueezePlay

2010-01-04 Thread erland

I'm not sure if iTunes Update has its own user interface on the
Controller but if you install TrackStat you should get a Rating menu in
the track details and if you change a rating through this menu iTunes
Update should pick it up and change the rating in iTunes. This only
works for setting ratings, the TrackStat menu will only show ratings
available in the Squeezebox Server database.

Thank you for your answer! I downloaded the latest version of the plugin
but could not find the perl import script included in the zip-file. I
therefore googled and found it somewhere else. I am wondering if perhaps
I have an old version. Although I don't know anything about perl, the
version I have don't seem to have any code for handling skipped files.
When running the script it just says no update required. Is it
possible for you to e-mail me the latest version, or direct me to the
correct download location?

Thanks again!

That's where I downloaded from, but the script for importing into iTunes

[SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update Plugin: Should skip count work?

2009-12-26 Thread mariowing

Hello there!

My question is in the title of the post really... I wonder if skip
count should work when importing the history file from iTunes Update
plugin into iTunes 9?

I see on http://www.jamescraig.co.uk/SlimServer/index.html that it says
this only works for iTunes 7, but some of the info on the page seems a
bit out of date so it would be very nice if someone could clarify if
this feature only works on iTunes 7, meaning it does not work on later
versions of iTunes.

Regards, Marius

[SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update on a Mac

2009-08-12 Thread nbkelvin

I recently purchased an iMac and have successfully set up Squeezecenter

I have read James Craig's instructions, which explain the need to
install Mac::Applescript::Glue

Unfortunately, my Mac did not come with the OSX DVD, so I cannot
install 'Developer Tools' and hence cannot install Perl modules
Mac::Applescript:Glue

I am a complete beginner when it comes to Macs. Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Install TrackStat and Context Menu plugin and you will be able to hold
right arrow down for a second or two to enter a context menu where
Rating is one of the choices.

TrackStat will work together with iTunes Update so when you change the
rating it will also be forwarded to iTunes Update and further to iTunes.

Hi Starcat,
The plugin actually does the updating via iTunes' own interface (using COM on

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ? iTunes Update plugin

2009-04-28 Thread starcat

James, thanks much!

I have a Qnap NAS running linux with SC7 on it. I have iTunes running
on a different Mac computer. The iTunes library xml file is located on
a share which is imported on the NAS so that SC can import ratings and
playlist from the iTunes xml file. Now, I would like to have the
otherway roud synchronisation where changes made on SC are propagated
to iTunes. Is it possible to extend your plugin so that it calls
AppleScript on the remote Mac running iTunes (even connected through
simple telnet and not necessary ssh). Would be a very nice feature and
I think that this would be interesting to other people as well,
especially in times where SC runs more and more on NAS hardware, i.e.
not on the same computer like iTunes.

What do you think?

I have set 'Automatically run on system start' and disabled 'direct
update'. Instead I run iTunesUpdate.pl manually but nothing happens in
Itunes? I have changed a line in iTunesUpdate.pl. But as I do not know
how to script Perl it might be here I have made a mistake?

die usage: iTunesUpdateWin.pl iTunes Update history file [loop
seconds]\n unless ($filename);
to
die usage: iTunesUpdateWin.pl
“C:\Users\Jacob\Music\Playlist\itunes_hist.txt” 900\n unless
($filename);

The file itunes_hist.txt is updated all right, but I can find any log
files from the run of iTunesUpdate.pl. So it is difficult to say what
went wrong.

Could someone be so kind to advise?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ITunes Update doesn't update the last track

2009-02-17 Thread Craig, James (IDEAS)
It's always done this, nothing new.
There's no notification that plugins can use to tell when a track finishes
playing, just when a new one starts.
(Or at least, there wasn't when then the plugin was written).

Okay, James, thanks for the clarification. Guess I just haven't noticed
this earlier, so it's obviously no big deal! A bit annoying now that
I've spotted it though...

What about the other issue? The song timer stops after 0.2 secs, then
starts again. Is that also normal?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ITunes Update doesn't update the lasttrack

2009-02-17 Thread Craig, James (IDEAS)
Yes. It's just some sub-optimal code that picks up the track starting twice.

(BTW, switching off the squeezebox also triggers recording of the last track
played.
Mine is switched off automatically when I change sources on my amp, which is
why I've never tried fixing this)

I thought I'd done the repository thing already but doesn't look like I ever
did - I will try and sort this out...

[SlimDevices: Plugins] ITunes Update doesn't update the last track

2009-02-16 Thread MatsLarsson

The last track of an album or playlist doesn't get updated in iTunes
until another album is started. Below is the log of the two last tracks
of an album.

Another strange thing is that 'Starting a new song' occurs twice for
every track.

I'm on Win XP, SC 7.3.2, most recent versions of ITunes Update and
TrackStat.

Any ideas?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ITunes Update doesn't update the last track

2009-02-16 Thread WhaleOil

I am seeing this too, so can confirm it is also a bug on 7.3.3 on Mac OS
X. I have also noticed a few occasions when iTunes Update seems to have
stopped updating completely. Not sure I can track down when this
happens, but restarting SC brings it back to life again.

Incidentally, are there any plans to add iTunes Update to the new
Extension Download repository? I still have this installed in the good
old fashioned Plugin directory.

Many thanks
WhaleOil

[SlimDevices: Plugins] itunes update not updating itunes

2009-01-10 Thread scottzorch

Squeezecenter 7.3.1, iTunes 8, iTunes Update 2.7.0, Mac OS X 10.4.11.

I just installed iTunes Update last night so that I could start playing
with playlists on my iPod based on least recently played. The
Mac::AppleScript stuff took a force install to get on, but appears to
be OK, based on running the iTunesUpdate.pl script by hand -

perl iTunesUpdate.pl
usage: iTunesUpdateWin.pl iTunes Update history file [loop seconds]

If I throw something short and never-before played into a loop, I get a
lot of this in server:9000/log.txt -

[09-01-10 11:22:07.4751]
Plugins::iTunesUpdate::Plugin::startTimingNewSong (1101) Starting a new
song

[09-01-10 11:22:40.8786]
Plugins::iTunesUpdate::Plugin::getActionForTrackPlay (1286)
Opportunities (Reprise) was played long enough to count as played.
[09-01-10 11:22:40.8789]
Plugins::iTunesUpdate::Plugin::getActionForTrackPlay (1287) Played past
percentage threshold of 20.1714 seconds.

What never happens is that the iTunes Last Played field doesn't seem
to get updated. I've changed the SqueezeCenter startup to be When I
login instead of at boot, and I've stopped and restarted iTunes to see
if it had cached the Last Played info. I also tried changing the stars
rating from the GUI interface and that wasn't reflected back to iTunes.
I verified that the file:/// path is correct.

Where should I look for additional debugging info or what needs to be
tweaked?

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] itunes update not updating itunes

2009-01-10 Thread scottzorch

For reasons that probably make a good deal of sense, 'Direct Update' is
not a default. Once I read far enough through the code, I found that,
changed it, and now iTunes is updating and I'm happy again.

Thanks for the plugin.

Have you checked where iTunes actually thinks the files are?
In Windows you can choose 'show in explorer' from the track's context

I assume there is a similar option on the mac.

 James

Yes there is a reveal in finder option... The files are stored as
expected:

iTunes Music/Sigur Rós/Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust/

So that seems ok Still not working though
