Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
Hello, I can not recommend installing LMS *7.9.0 or later* to MBL (D). Why? I have been running a Squeezebox radio in our kitchen for years. At some point, I installed LMS *7.7. ** on the NAS (MBLD 4 TB) by using the recommendations given in this thread and it ran without complaints. So far so good. Sometimes later I added a Raspberry Pi with volumio and HifiBerry-DAC in the living room for the connection to the stereo system. At some point I noticed that newly added mp3/m4b did not appear in the scan of the LMS and could not be brought into its DB. After studying the change log, I decided to upgrade to 7.9.0. Despite nearly ten installations/uninstallations with various slimings: moving the cache, switching off all plugins, etc., only one time a more or less complete scan of the music library (> 66 K songs) could be triggered. Than the system crashed and brought me to do unsuccessful installations again and again... At that point I moved frustrated to my Raspberry Pi - installed the version and everything runs immediately and without any restrictions. Therefore, I must conclude that at least the newer versions of the LMS are no longer suitable for an installation on MBL. It is much more cost-effective to save the time spent on unsuccessful attempts to acquire a Raspi. Don´t have too much fun! Might be worth trying 9001. 9000 might already be in use for a built in DNLA server on the NAS. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
I have just replaced a faulty MBL (under guarantee) and am trying to set up the new NAS as server for my Squeezebox. Using Putty, I have accessed and downloaded the software without obvious problems. However, I'm now instructed to navigate to mybooklive:9000 and this persistently gives me an error (even though I can navigate to mybooklive/UI). Is there something to be done to enable me to access the LMS - I assume I need to do this to be able to use the MBL as both radio and music server. If I've missed some advice about this, I'd be grateful if you would point me to this, otherwise, any suggestions welcome. You can set a preference in Orange Squeeze to start SqueezePlayer automatically when OS starts. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
I have to say using the apps on my phone or tablet takes it to another level IMO. The Logitech one is alright plus the price is right but either of the other 2 are well worth the money, squeeze commander especially because you have a button to change what happens when you click a track, set it to add to end of the current playlist and you can just pass it round and get your guests to add tracks to the current playlist at will, no more wiping out your current playlist when trying to add tracks to the end. I don't know if it's of interest but did you know you can get an app called squeeze play for android, it doesn't have an interface as such but turns your device into another squeezebox, which can then be controlled just like any other squeezebox, including the apps previously mentioned above or even the Web interface or another player. I have a dock for my Nexus plugged into an old set of Yamaha 2.1 Pc speakers I use in my bedroom, very cheap way of adding another player to your setup Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD jimbobvfr400's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56857 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84735 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
Hello Jim, right I've used the internet browsers and the mybooklive:9000 port. It was just a test to see how thing are working. I do not expect to use in the near future my galaxy in order pilot the logitechmediaserver. But well noted on the apps you mention. I've seen that there are numerous apps to pilot the LMS. Honestly, when I listen music, I'm in front of my hifi system... and I do not listen music when I'm in front of my PC, so for me the simple remote control is far than enough. 8-). On the tablet.. it was just fine (big enough to really pilot the system), but I'm certain that a good apps will do the JOB in a much Better way.! cheers Gilles. Are you using the Web interface on your S2? I'd thoroughly recommend using one of the apps for this, Orange Squeeze or Squeeze Commander being my favourites but even the free Logitech app is better than the Web interface on a phone or tablet IMO. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
The first database was corrupted- The process has stopped on its own after 5 minutes, and I have been obliged to purge it, and to relaunch the DB process. But in the end - everything was fine. Yesterday afternoon I was able to listen music on the squeezebox with the LMS... and was able to pilot the squeezeboxserver using my PC, my tablet and also my galaxy S2 ! (On the S2 it is not a peace of cake ... but it works just fine). Yesterday evening I was able to have a look to a film on my TV accessing the twonky server, and my wife was accessing the files on the Livebook (during the FIlm). Given the price of the system, I 'm really impressed, and Really grateful to all guys that have done a great job in explaining how to install the LMS. Thank you all. Cheers Gilles. What was the server settings for music directory ? Could you see the web-UI on your PC ? In many linux and linux like installs it can be about user and permissions . The server usually has it's own user on the system and it should be able to read the directory (and if you use playlisats be able to write to the playlist directory ) Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84735 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
The "No space left on device" message may mean that the root partition on your drive is full. Log in to the terminal and type the command "df -h /". You should get something like this: MyBookLiveDuo:/# df -h / FilesystemSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/md0 1.9G 912M 914M 50% / LMS gets installed to /etc, so if the Use% for /dev/md0 is close to 100%, it might not be able to unpack and install. I recently installed the latest firmware update for my MBL Duo, and was able to re-install LMS and have it up and running in less than an hour. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
msimmo, To make things simple. Just install LMS. You do not have to change the port#. The LMS will use 9002 if 9000 is being used by Twonky. You can move the cache folder later anytime. So follow PaulBC #3 instruction: Change to a public directory: Code: cd /DataVolume/shares/Public Update debian packages: Code: aptitude update Download LMS 7.7.2 (or an older or nightly build of your choice): Code: wget http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.7.2/logitechmediaserver_7.7.2_all.deb Install LMS: Code: dpkg -i logitechmediaserver_7.7.2_all.deb Reboot MBL after the installation is done. The try to access the LMS via http://192.168.1.20:9002. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
Without knowing every change you have made on your NAS, it is hard for anyone to know what the problem might be. All I can suggest is to re-install the latest firmware for your My Book Live so you can start at square one, and then follow the steps I collected in my previous post. At step 2, rather than trying to change Twonky's port from 9000 to 8000, disable Twonky to eliminate it as a source of problems. Follow the rest of the steps, and if you get LMS working, then go back and try to change the Twonky port and re-enable it. If LMS stops working after that, you'll know you have a conflict of some sort with Twonky. I have edited to set port to 8000 using putty & saved using ":w" i've installed the latest logitechmediaserver, but if I type http://mybooklive.9000 nothing happens I am completely confused? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
The instruction is posted by PaulBC on http://www.mailinglistarchive.com/html/plugins@lists.slimdevices.com/2012-05/msg00405.html. In preparation for installing Logitech Media Server on a My Book Live Duo, I read through this thread, and the others it references, several times to understand what has worked, and what has not. For my, and others, reference, I've collected the successful steps below. I take no credit for the content, other than collecting it all in one spot. Also, this is not an exhaustive step-by-step guide, I assume the reader is familiar with basic linux commands and the vi editor. 1) ENABLE SSH VIA HTTP://MYBOOKLIVE/UI/SSH 2) DISABLE MEDIA STREAMING ON THE SETTINGS / MEDIA PAGE OR CHANGE TWONKY'S PORT FROM 9000 TO 8000: Stop twonky: Code: /etc/init.d/twonky stop Edit the ini file: Code: vi /CacheVolume/twonkymedia/twonkymedia-server.ini Change the httpport variable: Code: httpport=8000 Start twonky: Code: /etc/init.d/twonky start 3) INSTALL LOGITECH MEDIA SERVER Change to a public directory: Code: cd /DataVolume/shares/Public Update debian packages: Code: aptitude update Download LMS 7.7.2 (or an older or nightly build of your choice): Code: wget http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.7.2/logitechmediaserver_7.7.2_all.deb Install LMS: Code: dpkg -i logitechmediaserver_7.7.2_all.deb 4) MOVE THE LMS CACHE DIRECTORY TO A PUBLIC FOLDER Stop LMS: Code: /etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver stop Move the default cache directory: Code: mv /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache /DataVolume/cache/squeezeboxserver Backup server.prefs file: Code: cp /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs/server.prefs /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs/server.prefs.bak Edit server.prefs file: Code: vi /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs/server.prefs Change cachedir variable to new location Code: cachedir: /DataVolume/cache/squeezeboxserver Change librarycachedir to new location: Code: librarycachedir: /DataVolume/cache/squeezeboxserver Change dbsource variable to new location: Code: dbsource: dbi:SQLite:dbname=/DataVolume/cache/squeezeboxserver/library.db Start LMS: Code: /etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver start 5) CONNECT TO LMS AND CONFIGURE VIA HTTP://MYBOOKLIVE:9000/ LMS was up and running for me after step 3, with a successful scan of my 5000 song library. I went ahead with step 4 just to ensure I don't run into disk space problems in the future. ply3908's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38634 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84735 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
Hi I have recently purchased a WD MyBook Live & a Squeezebox Touch. I am desparately trying to follow instructions here to allow me to setup the MBL to serve my music from Public folder shared music to my squeezebox, without having a PC turned on. I understand the need for Putty to allow access to edit, & I can successfully login via root welc0me. But I am struggling to carry out all of the instructions here to get things working properly. Can someone help me out please. I notice that the postings here are a little in the past has this thread moved somewhere else, is there a newer way of doing this now? I think I am editing the VI ini file correctly to change the port to 8000, I save by using command "zz" but I struggle to get back to an environment which allows me to start twonky server again. Please can someone spend a bit of time helping me out, I'm usually quite good at doing these types of mods, but this one is getting the better of me. I have twonky 5 and I do see the /CacheVolume/twonkymedia/twonkymedia-server.ini file. You can use the "find" command to look for where the is twonkymedia-server.ini located. But when I install LMS, it assigned a different port number (I think 9001) when 9000 is being used by twonky. After LMS installed, you can change the LMS port number to a different number via the LMS web interface (Settings > Advanced > Network). ply3908's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38634 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84735 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I changed the cache and followed every instruction from PaulBC (as my library scans were not working good before) - while i was stopping the lms, the setup-assistant from http://mybooklive:9000 came up. I stopped the lms and purged everything and reinstalled everything again (and again). Then i switched the power of the wd off and on and waited for restart. Now Twonky runs (on port 8000), but http://mybooklive:9000 shows no logitech media server - even as there is a process in top called "squeezeboxserver". Do i need to wait longer or how can i find out if there is anything wrong - sadly i did not really succeed in backing up my prefs and favorites. My daughter and son will not be happy to see their favorites lost. @Gabbel Thank you very much for the tutorial. I have zero coding knowledge, and I was able to install SB-Server on my new WD MB Live. Ofcourse the posts on how to use vi also helped. After installing the SB-Server I find the MB Live's indicator is periodically blinking. I was wondering if installing SB-Server prevents MB Live from going to sleep. I have set the sleep timer for 10min inactivity. Wondering if installing the SB-Server is worth it, if it could strain and reduce the life of the HDD in the MB live. So...after having some trouble with the library move working, I purged and reinstalled using a 7.7.2 nightly. I then did the cachedir move and serverprefs update and completed a scan of all but the artwork. I also did a script that I found on peterweb.org modified to the prior instructed cachedir location as follows (leaving in the cache directory move command should you prefer to do it all at once): chown squeezeboxserver.nogroup /DataVolume/cache/squeezeboxserver/ mv /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/* /DataVolume/cache/squeezeboxserver/ cat
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
timmyshaft, What worked for me was to move the Squeezeboxserver cache directory to the cache directory on the DataVolume share. Due to the space limitations on the primary partition, where the OS and the program files like LMS are installed, that directory is also the cache directory for twonky. Once I moved the cache to the DataVolume, my scanning problems disappeared. -- TimT TimT's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22971 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84735 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

There are huge changes between 7.6 and 7.7, which can make the difference: LMS 7.7 is scanning photos and videos on your disk too. I suggest Logitech fixes this problem and doesn't leave it up to their customers! I am perplexed why you are getting an error message when trying to move the cache directory from /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache to /DataVolume/cache/squeezeboxserver. MBL was throwing off repeated "network down" and "intermittent network access" errors. I think I fixed this problem. Here is how I did it: 1. Enable SSH on the MBL: http://mybooklive/ui/ssh 2. Login to the MBL via Putty to do a factory restore. Move any and all data stored on the drive to the public share and run the following command which will perform a factory restore without deleting data: /usr/local/sbin/factoryRestore.sh noreformat 3. Wait for awhile (30 minutes to an hour?) and then restart the MBL by pressing the reset button on the drive for four seconds. -- TimT TimT's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22971 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84735 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Despite the wealth of terrific information n this thread, I can't get my server to run. I have a WD MyBookLive 2TB NAS drive that I installed SqueezeboxServer on via SSH using the instructions at the beginning of this thread. I get as far as issuing the "dpkg -i squeezeboxserver_7.6.1_all.deb" command to which I receive the following confirmations: -Unpacking squeezeboxserver (from squeezeboxserver_7.6.1_all.deb) ... Starting Squeezebox Server.- I give it some time, then try accessing it at http://mybooklive:9000, but get a file cannot be displayed error in my browser. And when I try accessing my library from the remote, it says that SBS isn't running. I've repeated the remove/update/dpkg -i process a number of times, tried using different versions of SBS and LMS, and even did a complete factory reset to the NAS (wow, did that take forever). And, yes, I've disabled Twonky. The server.log shows errors which appear to be the same disk I/O error, with the server then dying and automatically restarting, and dying/restarting, ad infinitum. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
The command: "aptitude remove logitechmediaserver mysql-server mysql-client libmysqlclient-dev" is actually removing four separate things: 1. logitechmediaserver 2. mysql-server 3. mysql-client 4. libmysqlclient-dev Since LMS now (if I understand correctly) uses SQLite instead of MySQL, it's not necessary to remove items 2 - 4 since they were removed when you scrubbed your old SMS version before installing LMS. The correct command for an uninstall of LMS, therefore, should be just: "aptitude remove logitechmediaserver" and then continue with the reinstall of LMS with wget and dpkg. I'm happy to report that I just finished doing exactly this on my MBL and it happily scanned all my new rips - granted it's just 700-odd tracks in 50-some albums, but it WASN'T finishing scans with SBS 7.6.1, and now (for one pass, at least) it IS. So ymmv, and in fact so may mine (we'll see what the scan does with the next batch of rips), but from my one datapoint 7.7.1 is an improvement. -- Kyrius Kyrius's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=53134 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84735 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS
I was having scanning problems on the My Book Live on which I did a clean install yesterday of LMS 7.7.1. This afternoon, I uninstalled LMS 7.7.1 and reinstalled it. Scanned again, several times, still no joy. Then, I did two things which resulted in (apparently) a full scan: 1. Created user squeezeboxserver and gave it full r/w access to the Public share (in which my music files are stored); and 2. Changed the path to the music files from "/DataVolume/shares/Public/Shared Music" to "/shares/Public/Shared Music". I then ran a "Clear Library and Scan Everything" scan. I watched the scanning progress: about 22 minutes to scan 8400 music files. Scanned playlists. Got about halfway through Pre-caching Artwork and stalled on one album, finally "terminating unexpectedly." Nonetheless, it appears that all my music files have been scanned. I did disable Pre-caching Artwork in Settings/Advanced. Let me add: I was previously running LMS 7.7.1 with no scanning problems on a Asus netbook (Ubuntu 11.04) on the same network. -- TimT TimT's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22971 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84735 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
