 Hi David,
Scrubbing in a MIDI track will deselect it but it won't deselect an audio
track. For MIDI tracks, you might want to use the arrow keys along with
Shift to select notes rather than trying to scrub. That said, if you do
scrub and use Shift to select a range, after selecting the range, move
away from the track with Control+semicolon or Control+p and then back to
the MIDI track and it'll be selected.

Re: Selecting audio or midi to edit

2020-05-20 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi David,

Glad you got it sorted. Using arrows to navigate and select is, by design, a
single-note process so you can't hear chords in the way you'd like. There are
other ways but it depends on your workflow. For example, it's possible to
create a selection of, say, a quarter note at the start of a bar. as long as
you don't have insertion following playback, pressing the Space bar will only
play the selection range and all of the notes within that range are selected.
Now, pressing Shift and the plus on the numeric keypad will move the selection
range to the next quarter note. To be clear, that command doesn't move the
notes but just the selection range. That way you can keep pressing Shift plus
and audition each quarter-note section. That is fairly tedious. So, instead,
you can set your selection range to one bar and audition greater amounts. If
you come across a bar where the second half-note chord needs to be nudged over
a bit, quickly make a selection from beat 2, tick 480 or so to beat 4, tick 480
or so and now your chord is sure to be selected, Change the nudge value to a
smaller size and use the plus or minus keys on the num pad to nudge. Pro Tools
Ultimate offers additional keyboard shortcuts to do things like nudge with
greater amounts and extend or halve the selection range.
HTH,
Slau

Hello Slau, Thank you for your help. I got every thing working!
When you select midi notes to edit, can you change the way midi notes are heard
instead of single notes, to chords if they are played at the same time?using
the arrows is there an option to change this? Thank you so much.

Re: Selecting audio or midi to edit

2020-05-18 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi David,
Scrubbing in a MIDI track will deselect it but it won't deselect an audio
track. For MIDI tracks, you might want to use the arrow keys along with Shift
to select notes rather than trying to scrub. That said, if you do scrub and use
Shift to select a range, after selecting the range, move away from the track
with Control+semicolon or Control+p and then back to the MIDI track and it'll
be selected.
HTH,
Slau

Hi Slau, I’ve discovered today when I was playing with my ProTools rig that
when I press the button for the jog wheel on the gel Cooper it scrubs the audio
but seems to deselect the track I was in the track window in the the list
window where you select your tracks and Chris my controller has a button for
select track I tried both and when I press the button to scrub with the chalk
wheel it would deselect the track, any ideas signed puzzled :-) this is David

Title: Troubleshooting for Editing in Pro Tools

Troubleshooting for Editing in Pro Tools

Make sure "Link Timeline and Edit Selection" is checked under the Options menu.
Make sure "Link Track and Edit Selection" is checked under the Options menu.
Go to the edit window and interact with the Track. In the Track View Selector, choose "waveform" for audio tracks or "Clips" for MIDI tracks.
Do one of the following:

In the Tracks List table, deselect and reselect the track to edit even if Voiceover says it’s selected, or
Use Control+p or Control+semicolon to select an adjacent track and move back to the original track you wish to edit.

Make sure insertion follows playback is not selected under the Cursor Tool Cluster in the edit window. Pressing Control+n will toggle this setting. If you’re using Flo Tools, double-tap Control+n to toggle.
Double check that the content you want to edit is in fact on the track you selected by soloing the track. (Note: If the output of the track is assigned to a bus, either solo the aux track or make it solo-safe.)
Make sure VoiceOver quick nav is off, if you’re making a selection with down and up arrows.
Make a selection and play the edit selection by pressing option+Left Bracket to make sure it plays from the beginning of the selection and stops at the end of the selection automatically.
