[Qgis-user] Clip raster with vectorlayer in Postgis

2018-01-09 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi
Just started to use PostGIS in QGIS. I only have vector data in postGIS
When I try to clip a raster layer with a vector mask (PostGIS) the layer is not
shown in the drop down meny.
So I had to ‘Save As’ shape before clipping. Is this correct ?

[Qgis-user] The need for intuitive complex feature edit support in QGIS 3+

2018-01-09 Thread Rui Cavaco
Hello list.

My name is Rui Cavaco, a supporter for OSGeo Portugal, and I see the need
for some future major changes in desktop GIS user interfaces in order to
facilitate complex features editing and querying.

GML and INSPIRE are about complex features but so are fiber optic networks.
Complex features could be also very productive in simpler cases like the
management of city road signs and indications and other municipality
themes.
In order to properly support complex features I think we need to go further
than the simple and old three-part GUI comprising TOC, map and attribute
table. For example, attribute and form views must have "drill down"
capabilities. As for the TOC, subdivding layers, as the GMLAS (
https://github.com/BRGM/gml_application_schema_toolbox) extension does, is
not enough. Something like tree-view windows showing object hierarchies and
complex objects' internal contents must exist. This is the exact same as
schematics / synoptic views provided by specialized "closed source" GIS
tools provided for telecom and other utilities management. Also I think the
TOC should be very interactive and adaptive, in order to make possible to
expose the intrincacies of sublayers without cluttering the whole layer
tree with details uneeded for the current user context.

Me and others discussing this subject in OSGeo-PT chat, we are convinced
that without a largely available and intuitive editing support for complex
features INSPIRE will soon be (some say already is) dead, despite all the
the EU legal obligations.

I suppose this is not a job for a single developer or a small team. I
imagine this might require some profound changes in QGIS. I don't think
that all these GUI changes mentioned could be "compacted" in just an
extension.

Funding for this effort could be raised from INSPIRE-interested EU
organizations and member state government agencies. Also telecom companies
and other utilities managers can be interested. Dedicated "closed source"
GIS solutions for utilities are so absurdly expensive that this can open an
opportunity window for Open Source based solutions.

I would like to join efforts with others sharing this vision in order to
help make it happen in future releases of QGIS.

Re: [Qgis-user] ctrl-c selection issue

2018-01-09 Thread Jeroen Hovens
Hmm, I can’t use Edit > Paste As, because qgis does not finish the Edit > Copy
command.

The csv file is about 270 MB, 7,5 mln objects with 5 attributes, no x-y data.

If you want to recreate the issue, the file can be found here:

https://www.cbs.nl/nl-nl/maatwerk/2017/38/buurt-wijk-en-gemeente-2017-voor-postcode-huisnummer

I run into this issue when selecting all objects with Attribute Gem217 = 310

355 also has this issue. 321 and 356 work without a problem.

I am using qgis here just as a means to chop the csv file into smaller
selections which I can then use to edit, add attributes and data to and make
maps of them.

Also looking at the size of your original CSV, I’d go along with Jeroen, and

If you can find a way of making the selection without going near the attribute

The option to save the selection as new csv file as Ramon suggested, doesn’t
work; qgis goes into ‘not responding’ and no csv file is added to the layer
list. However, a csv file is made, lacking a decent number of objects (first
test 15095 of 18582 objects and second test is 15179 of 18582 objects, so
missing about 3,5k objects). This csv file can be opened manually in qgis.

And I checked: this options does work for selections where the ctrl-c option
also worked. Then the new cvs layer is added to the layer list in no time.

Is there some sort of log file in qgis that might give clues to the ‘not
responding?

@Kirk

I did close and reopen qgis multiple times, even shut down the pc entirely, but
to no effect. Selections that did allow for copying earlier, still work: I can
make that selection again and ctrl-c works fine. Seems to me this rules out
memory-issues.

After a few selections, you may have to close and reopen qgis to purge the
memory as well. Importing a csv is memory intensive so another approach is to
try saving as a spatial database (SQLite) or even a shapefile. Once written,
you can load the spatial file and you should have lots of memory to keep
selecting points.

Re: [Qgis-user] ArcSDE

2018-01-09 Thread Luke
Hi

SDE can configure datasets to use either the SDE geometry type or native
database geometry formats. This is up to the SDE admin to control.
The attribute data can sometimes be coded and the real values are stored as
domain values. These can be queried out within the database if necessary
using XPATH. Similarly if SDE is using versioning on datasets you need to
setup some database logic (views etc) to handle ensure you have the correct
geometry record.

So you have to do some work in most cases to prepare data to be used in
native SQL environment / external GIS product but it is possible.

Using qgis 2.14.18 I have been working today with a large csv file (7.5 mln
objects). I just need selections of this database which I can then modify in
excel. So I opened the attribute table and made a selection based on a
specific value for an attribute, and copied that selection (about 30.000
objects) via the clipboard (ctrl-c) to a new Microsoft Excel file, then
saved the excel file and repeated the process for another selection. This
worked perfect for some time. However, some selections won't copy: when I
press the copy button the programs turn to 'not responding' and won't snap
out of it anymore. Selection size when this happens is about the same
(about 20k to 35k objects).

What could be the problem? Could the data be corrupted? How can I check what
is wrong?

Thank you

Gr.

Jeroen

2018-01-09 Thread Jorge Gustavo Rocha
Hi Jürgen,

I suspect that you are right! I used this old modules for a one time
job, to do the migration from SDE to Postgresql.

I would say that it is not possible to handle SDE data directly from
QGIS any more (using standard GDAL builds).

But someone else might have an alternative solution.

Jorge

Re: [QGIS-it-user] Traduzione QGIS 3

2018-01-09 Thread Daniele Bonaposta
utenti.
È necessario tradurre tutto? Per me no e non credo che questo crei problemi.

Quanti inglesismi sentiamo e diciamo ogni giorno?

My two cents!!!
Daniele

[Qgis-user] Dealing with tables that have composite keys.

2018-01-09 Thread Bob and Deb
Hello qgis-users,

It has been a while since I've looked at QGIS, but I'm excited to hear
about the new stuff in QGIS3. I'm hoping that it will help me with an old
problem that has kept me from fully embracing QGIS.

If I have a table called Sample_Data with attributes (official_name,
sample_id, top_depth, bottom_depth) and another table called
Soil_Indices_Lab with attributes (official_name, sample_id, parameter_name,
parameter_value, parameter_units), and I want to use QGIS Relations using
(official_name,sample_id), I run into this issue (
https://issues.qgis.org/issues/9531). Can anyone tell me if QGIS3 will
address this problem or if there are other features in QGIS3 that will
allow me to work around this limitation?

Thank you,

Bob

Buongiorno,

- No module named _psycopg

But only as migration path, right? I suppose those old GDAL modules don't
work with the current GDAL builds and wouldn't enable SDE in QGIS.

2018-01-09 Thread James Wood
Thanks Jürgen,
I guess some clarification is in order as to whether this is actually SDE
(older) or what is referred to now as Enterprise. There are also levels of
Enterprise as well.

Feature classes created through the ArcGIS interface can been seen in the
Spatial tab of an SSMS query. I have also connected to SDE (SQL) before from
QGIS, however it has been some versions past.

Sorry for jumping the gun before asking Roberto to clarify, and appreciate your
input.

Really? I thought SDE would use proprietary data structures in the database
instead of the database's native geometry representation.

GDAL has support for SDE that should also be available through QGIS. There
used to be SDE GDAL modules in OSGeo4W. But building those requires ESRI
libraries that are neither publicly nor - AFAIK - available to SDE customers
anymore, hence recent builds of GDAL in OSGeo4W don't have SDE support (there's
some cruft for GDAL 1.5 left).

perfetto, grazie mille Alessandro. Purtroppo, questo sta accadendo
sempre meno, in Italia.

ci sta a cuore.
interno.

Cosa serve investire 5 anni della propria vita a laurearsi in Sistemi

perche' e' bello e tutto italiano.

Grazie in anticipo.

fondazione internazionaleQGIS.ORG

http://changelog.qgis.org/en/qgis/certifyingorganisation/qgis-faunalia/

Capisco (in parte) a chi dice: destiniamo risorse allo sviluppo pittosto
che alla traduzione. Ma se una persona, non sviluppatore, vuole
restituire qualcosa alla comunità traducendo, perchè no?
