I'll agree with that. Windows 7 is stable and very usable, if I have to!
It came on my laptop and I think, might still be there, somewhere! I
know I used it a long time back for something, and I was seriously
impressed. And you can quote me! ;-)

As for learning Linux to please Norman - I wouldn't bother for that
reason. Do it, like everything else, because you want to! It's better
than way. :-)

Cheers,
Norm.

My son has just visited us. He has for some time been a Linux fan and
uses Suse Enterprise, I think, which is maintained for professional use;
but disappointingly that is changing, He says that many versions are
going the popular way with smartphone/tablet type displays, and not
supporting the old. He feels that it is being really messed up for the
professional/industrial user, and is seeking a way forward. He couldn't
at present suggest a version which would serve me for the next five or
ten years without my having to learn new tricks, which I don't want to
do at my advanced age - 87. A dedicated version is needed for the older
generation. At least I can still have my QL, but not for online use.

Evening Bryan,

I would advise Mint Linux for a personal use, and for industrial use, I'd
advise Red Hat Enterprise. If you don't want to pay up for RHEL, then use the
identical Centos or Scientific Linux. I use the latter for server use.

I use Mint Linux for personal use.
Cheers,
Norm.

I knew I shouldn't have said that. I took 'your' laptop with me in the car
that day, although in the end I didn't get time to use it as I'd hoped. Next
time I used it, the CD drive had packed in - it had a tumble in the boot of
the car and case is slightly dented where it had the knock, maybe the lens
in the drive has misaligned or something like that as motor works-a CD spins
up, but no data found. But if I can find a replacement drive it should be
OK.

I have QCP 3.34 Beta 3 running on a Fujitsu Amilo LI2727 fitted with a
T4200 2Ghz CPU, which running Ubuntu 12.04 Wine 1.4 is rock solid
stable.
Although I moan about Windoze, it's fulfilled my needs reasonably well and
Windows 7 is actually more stable than older versions, it'll do for me until
I get time to learn Linux one day (just to please Norman). As long as I can
use QDOS/SMSQ on it, I'm happy usually!

Now all I need is to get a QL emulator going on my Android tablet while
watching TV and I'll be happy!

I just dug out my old Windows XP Pro SP3 laptop from the attic (Hi Derek, it

QPC2 seems to work fine – it’s a Compaq Pentium 4 machine with just 512MB RAM.

Anyway, after a few minutes playing with QPC2, all seems well, Marcel will be
relieved to hear. Full screen mode via F12 works, keyboard seems fine,
Launchpad and Q-Dock (unfinished) run OK on it. Ctrl-Shift scroll lock works to
exit from QPC2, although there was a couple of seconds delay before it
responded (might have just been a bit sluggish as there’s only 512MB RAM on the
laptop).

I doubt I would use Windows again, as Linux less of the features (bugs)
that Windows has.

Also do not like Windows 7 and Windows 8 looks awlful.

Since QPC can run under WINE okay, I will stuck with Linux.

Sounds like a prime candidate for having Linux put on it. DucksAndRuns ;-)
