Hello Wolfgang, Despite some of the hassles of PayPal, it IS a viable method for transferring funds ... there are some limitations [they presume you have a bank account and credit card somewhere and ...] AND hassles. Al, that is not true for Europeans... only for US residents.. As a matter of fact European accounts now get charged an extra 1.92 which they get refunded ONLY if they verify their accounts. Also for people receiving from overseas there is a charge of 1% on the total amount... However it is most convenient... Al Hi Al, first of all I have two PayPal accounts... one for here and one for Europe... It didn't use to be like this but for about 6 mos. now, any NON-US resident-Paypal user, has to be charged and return the charge authorization code. That happens because banking (for the most part) is private information (unlike the US) and PayPal has no right to find out your data. Second is that any international transaction (ANY except between US and Canada but this is about to change as well) was until last month subject to two fees: 1. The recipient of the money was paying a fee and 2. The sender of the money was paying a fee as well (2,5%) After VISA became seriously annoyed by this (it's after all illegal to charge a credit card holder both in Europe and the US) they did away with fee no. 1 and decreased the international transaction fee to 1%. And for users that don't come from France, the UK or the Netherlands (and IIRC Gernany now as well) it is IMPOSSIBLE to receive money unless you have a bank account in the US... Many of these problems were unknown to me unless I started trading with the CF adapters... Phoebus Incoming mail is certified Virus Free. Ôï åéóåñ÷üìåíï ìÞíõìá åßíáé åëåýèåñï éþí. This is not really for advertising In that case, feel welcome to pop them up at ql.spodmail.com - it's had a couple of hundred visitors this week, many not from the list. I'm very pleased. The site has been accessed from over 700 different sites and it's only a few months old. I'm guessing from emails and site info that over a third of visitors do not subscribe (or I should say do not post) to qlusers or qldeveloper. Remember, you can list items, and have the ability to edit your own posts when you sell something ;) I can even create areas for companies, where they have moderator privilege over their own areas. I will spend some time developing some open source QL-related tools so people can co-operate on projects through the website. It'll include FTP areas, some kind of revision control system, and so on... Like I said, if anyone feels there's a real need for something, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Wolfgang (Uhlig)'s decision anyway :-) And as it's his decision, I'll explain how I would use the card if I am a lucky 'winner' ;) I have a US QL (which thanks to my wife picking up the membrane in rough fashion to ask me what it was, is now membraneless!) which I plan to use for checking compatibility of the Qeyboard I'm designing. I also want to do some software development, particularly Qeymail, and later other open-source projects, like a web browser, telnet client, and some assorted network utilities. I would prefer to do these on an emulator on a PC, for stability/security reasons, and a QXL would be an even better option. For that kind of development, I don't want to be using my hardware test rig... That's how I would use a QXL... I in turn would put it in my wife's PC (the only one with an ISA port) so she could at last work with a decent machine... In any case what she uses the machine for is to sync her Handspring Visor so Jonathan Hudson's Palm Utilities would do the trick (not to mention that they are a LOT FASTER than their PC counterparts). On the subject of QXL's now... Can someone please tell me whatever happened to that ISA to SuperGOLDCard adapter, Miracle was announcing in the IQLR? I was inactive at the time, so I am utterly clueless... (Since it's the first time I heard about that I suppose it went down the drain together with Masterpiece) Phoebus

As for US QL-ers wanting to buy a QXL rather than get one free (?) I have a 8MB 33MHz one for sale. $100 buys it, and the money goes to my GF fund. Oh, and I just remembered: I have a 40MHz 68040 that would work on it too... Is that the same QXL (and 68040) that was featured in that odyssey of yours in IQLR :-) Yes. IIRC it worked fine up to 35 MHz (or did you fix that?) Oh, it runs fine at 40 as well (with the 40MHz CPU), when I was writing the article, I only had oscillators going up to 70MHz (QXL uses a 'canned' oscillator at twice the CPU clock). I had a 75MHz but that was ECL rather than TTL and my makeshift ECL to TTL converter didn't really work very well, which was the reason for problems above 35MHz. The real stopper for the QXL is the Altera 1810 programmable logic chip. It runs hot even doing nothing (hotter than CPU) and like all CMOS based logic, the hotter it gets, the slower it can run. I have a nice little cooler on it but I guess it would go higher with a different one (say one that would extend over the 68040 as well and have a fan fitted). These days getting coolers is really easy, a 'PC Chipset' cooler is just fine for the CPU and overkill for the Altera chip. Nasta
