Thanks for the info Derek.

I am indeed installing Shoestring.
I have searched for older versions to try but they seem to have disappeared from
everywhere... I am not sure if Richard is reading this list any more (or ql-
developers) but he would be the one to consult.

As I said in my original mailing, using the ramimg and then running apps directly from
the cdrom works just fine. Maybe again it's my Q40 as it's an initial production run
and some things as I have noticed don't go as expected (ie ProWesS that despite
all info from other Q40i and Q60 users I yet have to install and run). Other things
work like a dream. (Turbo, GWASS, c68 and Q-Word do and that's what I am really
interested in anyway! Weird thing here is that PQIV DOESN'T run unless used on
QDOS Classic )

The problem with the Shoestring ISO image is that it exceeds 700Mbytes (it's
actually a little over it and I had to set my CDR to overburn it. However the
checksums look fine and furthermore it didn't appear to have any trouble with it

After little thought however, my money is on the partitioning scheme... I think that
the QWA partition set startable confuses it...

Oh well I will have to totally erase and start over... that's the part of QL systems I
hate... disk (floppy) access is so slow and the copy of subdirectories so unecessary
complicated I dread touching it...

Speaking of disks any way to use QubIDE partitions (which are infinitely more
reliable than QWA ones) and SMSQ/E ones on the same disk? I've tried to contact
Phil Borman, but he doesn't reply from the address he lists on his webpage...

Regards,

Phoebus

2002-12-18 Thread Derek Stewart

Hi Pheobus,

You must be installing Shoestring, it is quite hard to install. I have had a
few failures with it. The enter runlevel means that the system does not
know which runlevel to use, 3 is a good one. But the installation has failed

But I installed it on a Q40 at a Computer show, and it did install first
time.

There seems to be problems with the type of CDR disk used, maybe it is
errors in the writing of the disk, try looking at the checksums of the
downloaded disk image.

Derek

Hmm, my fault, I typed my message in a hell of a hurry and left out
the freeware folder name.

Because of the chaos caused by the enforced change of sites because of
Softnet closing down. The Other SOftware Page is having to find a new
home, but will reappear as a bigger site with more programs on it,
porbably most if not all the PD library stuff.

Re: [ql-users] soql

2002-12-18 Thread Dilwyn Jones

Assuming your PC has two serial ports, COM1 and COM2, you could, via
the opening configuration dialogue (click on the SER/PAR button), make
SER3 be COM2 and SER2 be none or COM3 or whatever. Or did you mean
that your PC's modem uses COM3, if so, you simply make SER3 correspond
to COM3. Whichever way you want to arrange this, it can be done from
that configuration screen as QPC2 starts up.

Hi all,
How can I get QPC2 to open to SER3 or, how can I change SOQL to
use SER2?.

You deserve it.

It is good stuff. This is the kind of thing that just makes the QL
system easier to use - the thing that the 'non-experts' are always
asking for. It is a pity that so few of them are left around now, we
need ways of encouraging them back to using the QL / SMSQ/E ... etc.

Ummm ... judging by the way that you have started with QTrans, Launchpad
is going to be very interesting :-)

I'm not sure what you want to do, but the SER->COM mapping is fully
configurable. SER/PAR button in config dialog.

Ser3 can be configured via the SER/PAR tab upon startup (just assign it to COM2 or
COM1 whichever one you have free...) As for SoQL as after my crash I don't have it
working any longer... Jonathan Dent is the man to ask :-)
