How many imap users do you have?
Have you added a value for mail_max_userip_connections in your
/etc/dovecot/local.conf file? What value do you have?
Did you restart dovecot after changing dovecot settings? (qmailctl
doesn't do anything with dovecot)

First we need to stop Courier IMAP:

Correctcourier is run from daemontools, not the normal sysvinit

You need to keep 25 open for incoming (inter-domain) mail. ;)

If QMT doesn't have the patch for the FORCE_TLS option, it'd be nice if it
did. This is something I'd also like to see on the submission instance of
 qmail-smtp.

Can you round up that patch? If you can give it a try, that'd be great. If
not, please post here where to get it so someone (hopefully other than Jake)
can give it a shot to see if it clashes with any other patches we're using.

I did some additional searching around, and unfortunately, I couldn't
find anyplace that had *JUST* this patch. It's part of the version 6
and above of John Simpson's qmail mega-patch, as documented at:
http://qmail.jms1.net/patches/combined-details.shtml near the bottom
of the page.

*A self-written patch to add a real FORCE_TLS capability, for those
who want a non-SSL server but don't want it to be able to accept mail
without STARTTLS happening first. Creating an envrionment variable
called FORCE_TLS with a numeric value greater than zero enables this
behaviour.

I'm not all that much of a C coder, but I might be able to try next
week to possibly port this patch into the qmail-toaster SRPM. I
scanned the big patch, and it honestly looks like there's only about 5
lines of changes involved with the FORCE_TLS coding. It would take me
a lot of work however, and it might be quite easy for one of you who
has better coding capability to pick out what's involved to implement
this option.

If I do get a chance to play with it and make it work, I'll certainly
contribute the patch back to the project!

Thanks!

[qmailtoaster] Forcing TLS on port 587

2011-02-03 Thread Jeremy Utley
Hello everyone!

We're using a toaster installation for our primary mail server at my
company, and over the last few weeks we've been working on configuring
everyone's mail clients to use SSL for sending receiving e-mail.
Now that we have everyone converted over to use of SSL, we'd like to
stop all non-SSL access. For imap and pop3, it was quite simple, I
simply disabled the imap4 and pop3 run scripts in
/var/qmail/supervise. However, for SMTP, I haven't had much luck yet.
We'd like to force the submission port 587 to require TLS and
SMTP-Auth before a message is sent out., while leaving SMTP port 25
un-modified. I had read on another qmail site that you could do this
by use of a FORCE_TLS=1 variable in the run script, but that did not
work, so I suspect that this patch is not in the toaster packages (and
running strings against /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd seems to bear that
out). Is there any way with the toaster to enforce TLS usage, and
reject any mail that's not TLS. We'd like to stick with TLS so we
don't have to reconfigure everyone's mail clients for SMTPS, which is
deprecated at any rate.

Thanks for any help you all can give!

Re: [qmailtoaster] qtp-newmodel upgrade - vpopmail - send-emails fails

2007-06-06 Thread Jeremy Towne

If you tail the install/build log
tail -f /opt/qtp-sandbox/usr/src/qtp-upgrade/log/build-recent.log
you will see what it is aborting on.
I just fixed error by error as they came up. Below is what I had to
install by hand before the qtp-newmodel would install with no errors.
So far all is working for me. The source rpm's should already be
downloaded from starting your install.

rpmbuild --rebuild --with cnt40
/usr/src/qtp-upgrade/SRPMS/vpopmail-toaster-5.4.17-1.3.4.src.rpm

rpm -Uvh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/vpopmail-toaster-5.4.13-1.3.3.i686.rpm
rpmbuild --rebuild --with cnt40
/usr/src/qtp-upgrade/SRPMS/qmail-toaster-1.03-1.3.15.src.rpm

rpm -Uvh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/qmail-toaster-1.03-1.3.15.i386.rpm
rpmbuild --rebuild --with cnt40
/usr/src/qtp-upgrade/SRPMS/courier-authlib-toaster-0.59.2-1.3.6.src.rpm
rpm -Uvh
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/courier-authlib-toaster-0.59.2-1.3.6.i386.rpm
rpmbuild --rebuild --with cnt40
/usr/src/qtp-upgrade/SRPMS/simscan-toaster-1.3.1-1.3.6.src.rpm

rpm -Uvh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/simscan-toaster-1.3.1-1.3.6.i386.rpm
It appears the install order is wrong.

If nothing else, I'll remove qtp-upgrade from the next QTP release and

Re: [qmailtoaster] Suexec apache2 qmailadmin

2006-11-14 Thread Jeremy Runner
I'm using Virtualmin to do web hosting. It creates the httpd.conf as
follows using suexec.

VirtualHost 192.168.1.2:80
SuexecUserGroup #501 #500
ServerName mydomain.com
ServerAlias www.mydomain.com
DocumentRoot /home/mydomain/public_html
ErrorLog /home/mydomain/logs/error_log
CustomLog /home/mydomain/logs/access_log common
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /home/mydomain/cgi-bin/
Directory /home/mydomain/public_html
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks ExecCGI
allow from all
AllowOverride All
/Directory
Directory /home/mydomain/cgi-bin
allow from all
/Directory
/VirtualHost

All scripts must reside in /home/{somedomain}. If I put the scripts in
a folder belonging to that domain, only that domain will be able to use
it. I would like to be able to run the qmailadmin scripts from all
domains but I haven't figured out how to make it work yet with suexec.

Eric Shubes wrote:

I gotta say, I don't understand the problem here.

I have two domains on a toaster. I can get to qmailadmin via
http://domain1.com/qmailtoaster and/or http://domain2.com/qmailtoaster. I
can log into either domain using the url from either one.

I've (simply) set up virtual domains in httpd.conf for each one, and they
just work.

So what's the problem? (What am I missing?)

had to recompile suexec using the directions from the link below so that
I could execute out of /usr/share/qmailadmin.

Re: [qmailtoaster] slow pop3 logins

I did try the fix with the run file and it didn't work for me. But I
did get it fixed. Once I got bind working for localhost, 127, and
x.1.168.192 and with forwarders to my ISP dns servers it is working
fine. I just don't understand why I had to have this. I had a previous
qmailtoaster install running for a couple of years that worked
flawlessly and I never installed bind or djbdns?? Anyways it's working
now. Thanks for the help..

Eric Shubes wrote:

That's certainly worth a shot, but I'd consider that a remedy instead of a

Is this problem still occuring? Sorry I've read most of the posts, and I
see the dns related items may be at fault, however there may be another
cause. I had this same problem when I first setup my box, it worked great,
but pop3 authentication took just over 2 mins.

It turns out it was a setting in the run file. I don't see any mention of
checking the run file so I thought I would let you know just in case.

original run is/was as follows.

#!/bin/sh

PASSPROG=/home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw
HOSTNAME=`hostname --fqdn`

exec /usr/bin/softlimit -m 900 \
/usr/bin/tcpserver -v -R -c 200 0 110 \
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup $HOSTNAME \
$PASSPROG /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir 21

I changed mine to

#!/bin/sh

PASSPROG=/home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw
HOSTNAME=hostname

exec /usr/bin/softlimit -m 900 \
/usr/bin/tcpserver -l0 -H -v -R -c 200 0 110 \
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup $HOSTNAME \
$PASSPROG /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir 21

I added the -l0 and the -H as I had read on several groups about the slow
response. I believe the -H tells pop3 not to perform reverse dns or
something similar. That was the general consensus for sorting out the slow
response, and in my case it worked a charm.

Try adding the -H to /var/qmail/supervise/pop3/run contents. As ever
make a
copy before editing. ;-)

I hope that helps.

  http://www.lifewithdjbdns.com/#dnscache
It is _only_ a recursive resolver; unlike BIND it never returns
authoritative data, and it never returns data that was not retrieved
directly from an authoritative nameserver, whose authority it had
proven by tracing the chain of NS delegations from its configured
  roots.

BTW is accurate as an introduction, but is not telling you can't
 forward.

Forwarding means being a cache of a cache, and dnscache has this
 funcionality

Seems to me that if dnscache can only return authoritative data by
tracing the chain of NS delegations from it's roots, then it can't
ever be a cache of a cache. The upstream servers should always return
not authoritative and point further upstream or to the roots.

If this isn't the behavior that djbdns does, then the documentation is
just wrong. Thanks for the link you provided, I will use that next
time I think there is a problem relating to DNS and the user claims to
 be using djbdns.

I may be completely wrong but I'm not sure that it's a dns problem. I
don't have any trouble resolving names from the server. The problem is
when a client tries to access the server. I've tried stopping iptables
and that doesn't make a difference.???

Jeremy,

I had a problem in the past where the From header was incorrect and the
domainkey verification dropped the Email (also without a log message).

Assuming that you have implemented domainkey, I would disable verification
and see if that allows you to receive the Email. In the
/etc/tcprules.d/tcp.smtp files delete the DKVERIFY variable then qmailctl
stop, cdb and then start.

Good job, searching the list for a solution.

Can you pinpoint the corresponding /var/log/qmail/spamd/current log
entries?

Do you have a way to create a test case such that you can see if a
bounce is generated, and if so what it says?

Good job, searching the list for a solution.

Can you pinpoint the corresponding /var/log/qmail/spamd/current log
entries?

Do you have a way to create a test case such that you can see if a
bounce is generated, and if so what it says?

Your problem might not be related to SURBL.

Forwarded emails fail the SPF check if SPF is specified in the
originator's DNS. There is no message logged when there is an SPF
rejection (we've requested a fix for this from the SPF patch author). Try
changing /var/qmail/control/spfbehavior from 3 to 1, and # qmailctl
stop, # qmailctl start to recycle qmail. # qmailctl restart might be
enough to recycle, I'm not sure.

Please let us know if this fixes your problem so we can update the wiki
FAQs.

Where else should I be looking for the problem?

 Thanks, Robert

P.S. Yes, things worked just fine before the upgrade.

Sounds like the MySQL5 problem. Erik has a patched version of
vpopmail-toaster at http://devel.qmailtoaster.com/.

Subject: [qmailtoaster] Change in clamav-toaster.spec file

Hello Erik,

I have played around with pre-build packages for different SuSE version.
There I have discovered a small problem: When I install a bunch of
packages with one command (rpm -i *.rpm), it is done in the wrong order:
clamav-toaster needs the qmail-toaster package to be already installed,
otherwise the directories /var/log/qmail/clamd and
/var/qmail/supervise/clamd are owned by root instead of qmaill.

This causes hundreds of clamd multilog: fatal: unable to switch to
current directory: access denied error messages appear on the screen.

I recommend to change line 412 in clamav-toaster.spec from

Requires: zlib = 1.2.3

to

Requires: zlib = 1.2.3, qmail-toaster

Best regards,
Johannes

 Hi Jeremy,

I have prepared a new version of my script for you. The version of SLES was
detected incorrect, so I fixed this (SLES 10 should be built like the OSS
 10.1 packages).

BUILD_RPMS can now be set to with a command line argument if not set
correctly. Use --help to see how. It also gives you an hint when it is set
 incorrectly.
You set your CD's base directory as installation source. But: I think many
packages for building will not come from the first CD, so I recomment to
create a directory and copy all four CD's content to that directory.

To your output: /SuSE-10/RPMS is the output-directory where the built
packages should be saved to. You can change this now with --targetdir (as
explained in help). Default is ~/qmailrpm. The warning, that those
directories can not be found appear only before building the first package.

Today I have downloaded SLES 10 and tried to install it, but it fails on my
x86_64 system, so I could not test the build process on a real SLES system.

I hope, you can finally build the packages. I am on business vacation the
next days, but I will watch the list and support you as good as possible.

Please use the latest attached version of the script. I recommend to use
 Erik's latest vpopmail-rpm from http://devel.qmailtoaster.com/ because that
fixes a problem for your system.

 Johannes

This must be your Opensuse repository - for example your SuSE DVD or - much
better - a directory on your hard disk containing the repository. The build

/var/tmp/build-root before building each package of qmail toaster, therefore
it needs access to the installation sources.

It makes much difference if you have a fast installation repository on disk
or if you set BUILD_RPMS to /media/dvd, mount the dvd and use all SuSE RPMs
 from there.

/SuSE/suse/i386/10.0 is not there by default. That's where I have copied the

Dear Jeremy,

Could you compile successful with the script? I forgot to mention, that
before installation you have to install the build package on your build
host. Do not use the sus10X-deps.sh script, you do not need package needed
for building!

After running the build process, you should install the created packages
using rpm -Uhv or via yast.

Most packages should be installed. The djbdns packages can be installed
when you like to use djbdns. Those packages can conflict between each
other - only install the ones you need for your purpose.

Attached you find a version of the build script with some additional
features and an (experimental) included patch for the Mysql has gone
away error on MySQL 5 versions.

Best regards,
Johannes

editing the .sh so they werent there anymore. However, now i get

remove out of the .sh yet again so i dont get those errors, basically
its telling me i should remove apache and php5, but that aint gunna

CBL blocks because of the host identified by 'helo.' If the
host
does not resolve correctly, it could cause issues.

Check your mail logs. (/var/log/qmail) There should be a URL
at
abuseat.org in your logs, which will contain more information.

Since the CBL doesn't really give me anything as far as
evidence to what they have found, I'm not really sure where
to start troubleshooting this issue. Can anyone give me some

you can use Mirc, bitchx, xchat, all of those are clients.

If you have trillian you can too, find your trillian irc plugin. Do

Re: [qmailtoaster] UNOFFICIAL UPDATE: spamassassin-toaster-3.1.1-1.2.12.src.rpm

2006-04-12 Thread jeremy
I believe you need to enter your dist instead of $DIST, so if you had REDHAT
you would write

rpmbuild --rebuild --with REDHAT spamassassin-toaster-3.1.1-1.2.12.src.rpm

if you use slackware, or another dist, just replace that.

UPDATE PROCEDURE:

# rpmbuild --rebuild --with $DIST

# service qmail stop
# rpm -e --nodeps spamassassin-toaster
# rpm -Uhv
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/$ARCH/spamassassin-toaster-3.1.1-1.2.12.$ARCH.rpm
# /var/qmail/bin/simscanmk -g

This update should take a few minutes to update and will not have any
adverse effects. As usual, any package on my site will be signed by my

Try replacing $DIST with your distro (I.E. cnt40 for centos 4.x).

Also make sure that you are in the same directory as the rpm file.

Hi,

I just placed the following packages on the site for download:

vqadmin-toaster-2.3.6-1.2.6.src.rpm - Fixed user account controls so
accounts may be properly administered for allowing/denying users access to
their mail accounts.

qmailadmin-toaster-1.2.9-1.2.8.src.rpm - Fixes some language problems and
provides a new, easy access point to change user password.

Thanks for the clamav update from Erik. I just arrived home and have some
business to attend to but, will check it out tonight. Thanks again . . .

Regards,

Nick

Greetings,

It is available at the usual place:
http://kabewm.landshark.net/pages/projects/qmailtoaster.php

As always, my packages are signed by my public key.

Thanks,
Erik

Hello,
Thanks for the update Erik. May want to check it though. It tries to use
your user and group.

Installing clamav-toaster-0.87-1.2.6.src.rpm
warning: user espinoza does not exist - using root
warning: group espinoza does not exist - using root
Executing(%prep): /bin/sh -e /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.4646

Works anyways though, just though maybe you wouldn't want that info spread
everywhere.

Thanks. Your script works fine. Can you forsee a problem if I combine the
two scripts so that qmailctl would properly start|stop|restart|etcspamd,
so that one script controls the entire toaster. I looked at it a bit and it
and I think I could do it easily enough? Thanks again.

I wrote a small script to start/stop spamd with the QMail Toaster package:

You should be able to upgrade those packages only, by rebuilding them
then rpm -Uvh to upgrade them. If it fails, it will say why (or what
dependency was required), and it can be figured out from there.
