It took me about 3 years to get out of them and you're right about the food I went from 180 lbs to 125 in 4 months at the first one I went to.
I had my family start bringing me frozen foods like burritos, pizza, and canned food like ravioli or anythingI could think of.

Subject: MAKE IT HAPPEN - VOTE

One sunny day in 2005 an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Ave, where he'd been sitting on a park bench.

He spoke to the US Marine standing guard and said, I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.

The Marine looked at the man and said, Sir, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.

The old man said, Okay and walked away. The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, I would like to go in and meet with President Bush The Marine again told the man, Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.

The man thanked him and, again, just walked away. The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same US Marine, saying I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.

The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Bush. I've told you ready that Mr. Bush is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?

The old man looked at the Marine and said, Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it. The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, See you tomorrow, Sir.

Hey Tony,
I know that sucks getting stuck and I get stuck in my electric
chair every now and then, my phone has come in real handy
afew times.

I've been patiently waiting on my new Frontier and listen to this,
it's beenat the dealers since Monday and I've been waiting on a
Roho seat and aV handle for my joystick which I have on my old
chair but today I call and ask when he's delivering it and he told me
the Roho just came in today along with the V handle and he has to put
them on the chair tomorrow so it will be Monday before delivery.
It takes about 30 seconds to put a cushion in a chair and another
60seconds to change handles but he thinks I'm buying this shit
he's crazy. When he comes out I'm going to just ask him to show me how
it took 1 week to put on a Roho and V handle, I mean if he was just real
busy shit tell me but fill my ears with crap!

Patiently waiting but aggravated!

Fellow Skipper's Citation Refers To Enemy Fire

 x-tad-smallerWashington Post/x-tad-smallerx-tad-smaller /x-tad-smallerx-tad-smaller

/x-tad-smallerx-tad-smallerby Michael Dobbs/x-tad-smallerx-tad-smaller

/x-tad-smaller Newly obtained military records of one of Sen. John F. Kerry's most vocal critics, who has accused the Democratic presidential candidate of lying about his wartime record to win medals, contradict his own version of events.

In newspaper interviews and a best-selling book, Larry Thurlow, who commanded a Navy Swift boat alongside Kerry in Vietnam, has strongly disputed Kerry's claim that the Massachusetts Democrat's boat came under fire during a mission in Viet Cong-controlled territory on March 13, 1969. Kerry won a Bronze Star for his actions that day.

But Thurlow's military records, portions of which were released yesterday to The Washington Post under the Freedom of Information Act, contain several references to enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire directed at all units of the five-boat flotilla. Thurlow won his own Bronze Star that day, and the citation praises him for providing assistance to a damaged Swift boat despite enemy bullets flying about him.

As one of five Swift boat skippers who led the raid up the Bay Hap River, Thurlow was a direct participant in the disputed events. He is also a leading member of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, a public advocacy group of Vietnam veterans dismayed by Kerry's subsequent antiwar activities, which has aired a controversial television advertisement attacking his war record.

In interviews and written reminiscences, Kerry has described how his 50-foot patrol boat came under fire from the banks of the Bay Hap after a mine explosion disabled another U.S. patrol boat. According to Kerry and members of his crew, the firing continued as an injured Kerry leaned over the bow of his ship to rescue a Special Forces officer who was blown overboard in a second explosion.

Last month, Thurlow swore in an affidavit that Kerry was not under fire when he fished Lt. James Rassmann out of the water. He described Kerry's Bronze Star citation, which says that all units involved came under small arms and automatic weapons fire, as totally fabricated.

I never heard a shot, Thurlow said in his affidavit, which was released by Swift Boats Veterans for Truth. The group claims the backing of more than 250 Vietnam veterans, including a majority of Kerry's fellow boat commanders.

A document recommending Thurlow for the Bronze Star noted that all his actions took place under constant enemy small arms fire which LTJG THURLOW completely ignored in providing immediate assistance to the disabled boat and its crew. The citation states that all other units in the flotilla also came under fire.

It's like a Hollywood presentation here, which wasn't the case, Thurlow said last night after being read the full text of his Bronze Star citation. My personal feeling was always that I got the award for coming to the rescue of the boat that was mined. This casts doubt on anybody's awards. It is sickening and disgusting.

Thurlow said he would consider his award fraudulent if coming under enemy fire was the basis for it. I am here to state that we weren't under fire, he said. He speculated that Kerry could have been the source of at least some of the language used in the citation.

In a telephone interview Tuesday evening after he attended a Swift Boat Veterans strategy session in an Arlington hotel, Thurlow said he lost his Bronze Star citation more than 20 years ago. He said he was unwilling to authorize release of his military records because he feared attempts by the Kerry campaign to discredit him and other anti-Kerry veterans.

The Post filed an independent request for the documents with the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, which is the central repository for veterans' records. The documents were faxed to The Post by officials at the records center yesterday.

Thurlow and other anti-Kerry veterans have repeatedly alleged that Kerry was the author of an after-action report that described how his boat came under enemy fire. Kerry campaign researchers dispute that assertion, and there is no convincing documentary evidence to settle the argument. As the senior skipper in the flotilla, Thurlow might have been expected to write the after-action report for March 13, but he said that Kerry routinely duked the system to present his version of events.

For much of the episode, Kerry was not in a position to know firsthand what was happening on Thurlow's boat, as Kerry's boat had sped down the river after the mine exploded under another boat. He later returned to provide assistance to the stricken boat.

Thurlow, an oil industry worker and former teacher in Kansas, said he was angry with Kerry for his antiwar activities on his return to the United States and particularly Kerry's claim before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that U.S. troops in Vietnam had

The treachery is not on Kerrys part. I guess you haven't heard that all these men have
been taking back what they have said about Kerrys war record. They were in the war but
they didn't even know him. Some are now admiting that they were just mad about
comments he said about the war. They are also now being linked to not only Bush but
Bush senior. This is back firing on the bush administration. People are sick of the
nit picking about Kerrys war record, at least he served in a war, where did Bush

alone makes me question the motives of any statements made by Thurlow:

> He speculated that Kerry could have been the source of at
least some of
> the language used in the citation.
> In a telephone interview Tuesday evening after he attended a Swift
Boat
> Veterans strategy session in an Arlington hotel, Thurlow said
he lost his
> Bronze Star citation more than 20 years ago. He said he was unwilling
to
> authorize release of his military records because he feared attempts
> by the Kerry campaign to discredit him and other anti-Kerry veterans.
I also found it interesting Lt. Cmdr. George M. Elliott was mentioned in
the story as a Swift Boat Vet supporter...
> The Bronze Star recommendations for both Kerry and Thurlow
were signed
> by Lt. Cmdr. George M. Elliott, who received reports on the incident
from his
> base in the Gulf of Thailand. Elliott is a supporter of Swift Boat
Veterans for
> Truth and has questioned Kerry's actions in Vietnam. But he has refused
> repeated requests for an interview after issuing conflicting statements
to the
> Boston Globe about whether Kerry deserved a Silver Star. He was
> unreachable last night.
... without stating what any of his conflicting statements
were (though it was mentioned, at least, that he made them). You
see, Elliott was a Kerry supporter in a 1996 Senate race... He fully supported
Kerry's actions in Vietnam. Elliott's one-year old statements
are here:
(Kranish, Michael. "John F. Kerry: Candidate in the Making - Part
2: Heroism, and Growing Concern About War. Boston Globe, June
16, 2003) In part:
When Kerry returned to his base, his commanding officer, George
Elliott, raised an issue with Kerry: the fine line between whether the
action merited a medal or a court-martial.

"When [Kerry] came back from the well-publicized action where
he beached his boat in middle of ambush and chased a VC around a hootch
and ended his life, when [Kerry] came back and I heard his debrief, I said,
'John, I don't know whether you should be court-martialed or given a medal,
court-martialed for leaving your ship, your post,'" Elliott recalled in
an interview.

"But I ended up writing it up for a Silver Star, which is
well deserved, and I have no regrets or second thoughts at all about that,"
Elliott said. A Silver Star, which the Navy said is its fifth-highest
medal, commends distinctive gallantry in action.

Asked why he had raised the issue of a court-martial, Elliott
said he did so "half tongue-in-cheek, because there was never any question
I wanted him to realize I didn't want him to leave his boat unattended.
That was in context of big-ship Navy - my background. A C.O. [commanding
officer] never leaves his ship in battle or anything else. I realize this,
first of all, it was pretty courageous to turn into an ambush even though
you usually find no more than two or three people there. On the other hand,
on an operation some time later, down on the very tip of the peninsula,
we had lost one boat and several men in a big operation, and they were
hit by a lot more than two or three people."

Elliott stressed that he never questioned Kerry's decision
to kill the Viet Cong, and he appeared in Boston at Kerry's side during
the 1996 Senate race to back up that aspect of Kerry's action.

"I don't think they were exactly ready to court-martial him,"
said Wade Sanders, who commanded a swift boat that sometimes accompanied
Kerry's vessel, and who later became deputy assistant secretary of the
Navy. "I can only say from the certainty borne of experience that there
must have been some rumbling about, 'What are we going to do with this
guy, he turned his boat,' and I can hear the words, 'He endangered his
crew.' But from our position, the tactic to take is whatever action is
best designed to eliminate the enemy threat, which is what he did."

Indeed, the Silver Star citation makes clear that Kerry's performance
on that day was both extraordinary and risky. "With utter disregard for
his own safety and the enemy rockets," the citation says, Kerry "again
ordered a charge on the enemy, beached his boat only 10 feet from the Viet
Cong rocket position and personally led a landing party ashore in pursuit
of the enemy . . . The extraordinary daring and personal courage of Lt.
Kerry in attacking a numerically superior force in the face of intense
fire were responsible for the highly successful mission."
Best, All!

Ok, here's my take on the Life Rolls On segment on
  Good Morning America!!

i caught itright before i went to workpersonally, i
don't see much of a message coming from the dude...he's just a goodlookin dude
who's getting lots of attention, but the message
should be that there very-well could be a medical solution on the horizon, but
because our scientists have their hands tied, and severe lack of government
funding, we might not see it in our lifetimeJesse's overwhelming message
is 'get out there and live life' Well, in his case,
hedoesn't really have to work, he's still gettin the chicks and probably
getting paid handsomely through the Life Rolls On.organd i think he loves
the spotlight on HIS injury, not thethousands out here that are REALLY
  struggling.

  just my opinion...how u feelin???

I missed
it you all gonna have 2 start posting this stuff a few days earlier. Some of
us only check emails 1 or 2 a day and on early nights in bed 7:30pm or so.
Hopefully it will re-air. I love that this kid is brining funding and
awareness to SCI as well as Christopher Reeves. That gives us others hope
and a map of how we can get 2 where they are. If now you’re starting 2 think
as I am that that’s the pinnacle of a quads life. Money, accessible house,
van, trips, stardom notoriety, experimental medicine, surgeries that
are on the borderline of a cure. Well I can wait until they find a cure I
don’t think I like being a guinea pig. I think Christopher Reeves looked
scary when all his hair came out and they were drawing eyebrows on him.
UGGHHH but somebody's gotta do it. Right? For a brighter future 4 us all one

[QUAD-L] STUDENT LOANS

2004-08-20 Thread STILSOULVIVEN
Does anyone know anything about getting defaulted student loans reduced? I cannot afford the payments because I took out the loan prior to my disability. My income from SSDI is not enough to make the loan payment. I was one of fourteen students accepted into a new Honors programs at Indiana University this year, and now I can't even go to college. Voc rehab cannot help until I resolve this loan matter. I sent a form (the form that verifies I am disabled so that my loan can be reduced) from the financial aid office, to my doctor three times to verify that I am disabled, and they will not sign it. I am a quad resulting from a T1 spinal cord injury. How is that not a disability? I should be responsible for my debt, but I cannot afford it at this time. I desperately want to go to school. Does anyone know what I could do?

You could request payment reduction or liquidation. Reduction seems better
than liquidation, but you'll never know until you ask in writing.

Cameron,

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that. Oscar night? I'm
sensing that your last post was because you feel that I am not contributing to
the list. Could I be wrong perhaps? If I took it the wrong way, I
apologize, but I would still like to know what you meant by your post.
