[QUAD-L] technical question about Google start page interfering with voice recognition
Every once in a while, the people at Google get creative and put some sort of animation on their start page. Unfortunately this seems to tie up all my CPU resources so that my computer becomes unresponsive. (I have Windows task manager start automatically with Windows, and the indicator in the tray indicates the CPU is 100% busy). Any idea how I can fix this? I've set up a shortcut so that I can begin Mozilla Firefox by going to a different site, but I would prefer being able to run Google searches without being subjected to this animation. Any ideas? Thank you so much, Dave Krehbiel
Re: [QUAD-L] technical question about Google start page interfering with voice recognition
Dave, Why not make Google the default search engine for your browser and do all of your searches through your browser's search interface usually located in the upper right corner of your browser's window? This will avoid the Google page animations altogether. Just make your homepage something other than Google. Re: [QUAD-L] Pain Pump
Getting the pump Isn't anything to be afraid of. At least it wasn't for me, because in the the area I had my surgery, I have no feeling. So it was not painful for me. My concern was infection. At the time of removal, I was told that I could not have it put back in. ut what I did not know at the time, was that I could get pain medicine put irectly into the pump also. My only concern would be that they would something affect my brain. Naomi.

Are you having your pump replaced, because it's time, or are you having a problem with it? Do you also use it for pain medicine? [QUAD-L] HOMELESS QUAD
Good evening fellow quads. I was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of a homeless quad? I was asked this question by a friend and it got me thinking. For example here in Ca. they still haven't set the yearly budget and our In Home Supportive Services may be on the chopping block. So if a quad no longer had payed care they might would end up on the street. I know some will say, well then they will go to a nursing home but remember if lots of people don't have care, the homes will fill quickly. Not to mention I looked into going in a nursing home once before and couldn't find a single home that would take a quad without some kind of outside payment more than Social Security and Medicare. So group my questions are 1.) have you ever seen or heard of a homeless quad and 2.) what would you do if suddenly you had no care and or home? Take care all. Donald C5/6 19 years post

Re: [QUAD-L] flying back east
whichever airlines you have chosen contact their special service department is the first step. Ask for the bulkhead seats or in other words the very first row of coach and depending upon the airplane one side should have three seats which is best for having room to transfer! I have flown five times and have learned something every single time! The ventilator part is going to be the tricky one because you are transferred from your chair to what is called an aisle chair which is only about 18 inches wide before you get on the plane. Also ask their maximum dimensions for their cargo whole my wheelchair even after being broken down has to go in on its side. Now for you and them not to lose legrests armrests or even a headrest if you would go to a place like U-Haul or a good home improvement store they sell an industrial Saran wrap for shipping items. It's about 20 inch long roll with handles on it you put all of the loose wheelchair parts where the cushion was removed where you sit. Going around the chair with that wrap to hold everything in and make sure to indicate which side of the chair it can be laid on its side which I learned this last time. I use my chair cushion from my chair in the airline seat and that also save $25 instead of checking luggage in at the ticket counter high just wrapped it up with my wheelchair. Also you will need to show them how to put the chair in manual mode so they can push it without killing themselves. Have your local wheelchair shop inspect your chair to make sure everything is in good shape and also you have gel cell batteries or the wheelchair cannot fly by federal regulation! Before they transfer you and after you wrap it up you may need these later on to prove to them of any damage while the chair is in their care. You also need to locate a local wheelchair repair shop where you are going as backup, after reaching my destination my wheelchair would not power up after countless calls on my part and on their side we finally found somebody 90 minutes later. The airlines had to transport me across the town and only took over five hours since my landing to finally get me up and running! They had to pay everything and gave me free tickets to fly again within one year. Any other particular questions feel free to ask.
