Re: [QUAD-L] Power chair questions
Danny, The Pride 6000Z, is a pretty good chair for the money. The Quantum Series, are built in our country with parts and components, from (communist red) China. Pride maintains 4 huge regional warehouses in North America. I agree the Permobil M300 is getting a lot of attention these days. Its a nicely made power chair. Keep in mind that it too is made off shore in another country. Permobil has a huge warehouse in Tennessse. Regarding your 6000Z issues. Have you tried to contact Mark Smith at Pride who designed your power chair (_msmith@pridemobility.com_ (mailto:msm...@pridemobility.com) ) with the serial number of your chair and your provider? This is most important, even if you are considering a new chair. The 6000Z properly repaired, will offer you an excellent back up chair. Best Wishes In a message dated 1/20/2014 9:16:26 P.M. I've got some questions for you guys about it... I'm thinking about getting a permobil m300 which is a mid wheel chair. The question I've got is about the head and foot rest systems. My chair right now the feet are together which causes my knee's to open up which I hate. On my current chair I've been using a gate belt around my thighs to bring my knees closer together. I think this was due to my feet having to be together due to the foot plate being one small piece of metal with ankle straps and not being two plates that my feet can be separated. My headrest never really has been comfortable because my head doesn't really rest on it... It touches it if I recline a little though so I've reclined the seat back and chair a little so my neck doesn't wear out and get sore so fast. I need to make decisions on which headrest, foot rests, arm rests and seat I want and was curious which you guys recommend? Also what do you guys think of the permobil m300? Thanks in advance! -Danny
Re: [QUAD-L] Power chair questions
I demo'ed the m300 mid wheel drive last spring, it's much better then my 13 year old quickie p300. As for the head rest I can get by with a basic one that we adjust once and leave it, I only need it when I tilt back. I didn't have any issues with my knees spreading like they do with my quickie. I wonder if the footrest was set low enough for you. The only issue I have with the m300 is low ground clearance, I live in town and had no problems but I'm thinking about driving again and need to find out about any special lockdown that may be needed. Re: [QUAD-L] Ergojoystick is for sale
Very Impressive. Do manufactures void warranties on joystick when it is used? I could see where such a device could place undue stress on the metal rod, hence, undue pressure on the electric contacts within the joystick case. I've witnessed a few example of seniors being exposed to mobility chairs late in life, thinking the joystick is the gas pedal of their chairs and they harder they push the faster in one direction they will travel. Also in cases where a person using a complex rehab chair with spasms could push the steering rod too hard. Is it FDA approved too? Thanks for your reply. Re: [QUAD-L] Ergojoystick is for sale
Good Suggestion Ron. Let me use this as an example... using a shower valve. Shower valves, are available with Knobs or Levers. The knob offers its user equal leverage in controlling the action of the valve. A lever does the same thing, but using more leverage and if over used, can damage the action of the shower valve. Its a lot more difficult to break a knob on a shower valve, than a lever. Same could be said with a joystick assy. A simple joystick may cost $1000 to replace. A complex joystick can cost thousands, depending on its actions. The joystick handle, is not the part I'm concerned with. The metal stud that projects from the joystick is attached to a series of copper rings inside the joystick. They can be damaged by over torque with extreme leverage. I hope that I've explained myself properly. Best Wishes In a message dated 1/21/2014 1:46:27 P.M. I watched them ride and chatted with them, it did seem cool, I never got around to buying the trike, but at times I go there and ride around in my power chairNow I will soon be able to ride the trail they have built down the street by aquaport and dogport.. Re: [QUAD-L] Days in bed 2013
I've been in bed since December 2012. I've only been getting out of bed into my chair once a month to go to the wound clinic. I use to hate being in bed but have realized what the problem was that with my adaptive input not setup to use from bed I couldn't do anything. Now that I can use the computer from bed and control the tv/dvr using a slingbox, I can do everything I would normally be doing from bed. No need to get dressed, do transfers in and out of bed saving about an hour a day to do something else. My would was small but deep. I was given the option of flap surgery but that would require going to the hospital then a nursing home. No thanks. So it's healing slowly, no infections. My nurses change the packing in the wound daily. Jim

Jim

Re: [QUAD-L] Ergojoystick is for sale
Thanks everybody for the questions. I'll look into if the joystick handle will void warranties. I'll get back to you within a week. As to the risk to the metal joystick shaft, the handle is of similar risk as most other aftermarket goalpost or U-shaped joystick handles. It is very low profile which minimizes torque on the shaft. -Joe On Tue, Jan 21, 2014 at 7:38 PM, gentr...@yahoo.com wrote: Hi, he is a c5/6 quadriplegic for 21 yrs...yes he has spasms. Re: [QUAD-L] Ergojoystick is for sale
Thanks Joe. You can email Mark Smith-Quantum Manager at Pride Mobility for a direct answer at: _msmith@pridemobility_ (mailto:msmith@pridemobility) . Mark was born with CP and is a Quantum Chair Owner himself. Let us all know. Have you had any direct feed back from the major spinal hospitals like Shepard, Kessler, RIC (chicago) or Craig ? Will CMS fund such an item? Is it coded for CMS? Looking Forward. Best Wishes In a message dated 1/21/2014 8:10:48 P.M. Re: [QUAD-L] Days in bed 2013
they briefly discussed a wound vac, but it would have involved a stay in the hospital. I'm too paranoid of getting any infections going to a hospital. This year makes 25 years and the only respiratory infection I have ever had was year 1 while in rehab. Over the year it went from 2.7cm deep to 1cm deep now. Might heal faster if I completely get off it but I have not been, just on the alternating air mattress. On Tue, Jan 21, 2014 at 4:35 PM, wheelch...@aol.com wrote: Sorry to hear that Jim. Re: [QUAD-L] Days in bed 2013
Jim, I know what you mean. I had to get my wound VAC two years ago in the hospital. You must have a lot of patience to be confined to the in bed, I'm so thankful that you have your equipment so you can operate everything. We can only survive so long without the Internet. I feel that way at least. It keeps me sane, if I have a sore. You are so awesome, Jim. I will pray for you. I can imagine what life would be like without the quad list. It is such an amazing site and I'm so grateful to you and the Lord that allowed you to survive, and bei such inspiration to the world of quads.
