It would be best to go see a doctor. I had a red spot on my butt and when it
finally broke open I found out there was a sore building up under the skin,
tunneling. So sore was about 3 cm deep, actually going sideways slightly,
before it ever broke open. The doctor said sometimes you can tell there is a
sore building up by pressing on the red spot to see if it feels squishy or
soft.
Antibiotics would only be good if there was an infection.

Should I take antibiotics for a pressure that is on my bum? It is
 not open but very painful.

 Thanks

Don't think they call for antibiotics for that---but Lantiseptic is very good
for that and so is the bag balm.  Dan H**

And stay off of your bum for a week or so, A visit to your Dr. may also be
needed.  Check your cushion, it may need air or replacement.

I judge hospitals by the quality of the food. I haven't run into a hospital

I just got out of the hospital Friday after being in for seven days with
pneumonia. I really like to know about the yogurt and how much should be
taken after being on IV's for seven days. They always have trouble getting
an IV in me. My first one quit working and they tried to do a pic line 2
times without success so the anesthesiologist used my neck. They were
going to take me to radiology to try again but they decided to go with the neck
IV and my pneumonia finally looked better. My bowels quit working also and
luckily it was not a blockage, so I was put on Myralax and after about four
days
it started working. I was so miserable as it looked like I had a
basketball in my stomach.

It is unreal the kind of care you get in the hospital for at least this
one. If my mother had not been around, I don't know if I would have gotten
my bowels to work again.

I would love to hear about others hospital experiences and if the nurses
will do digitals properly. I found that to be a real problem. I was
glad to have a good mattress that did not give me any breakdown.
I was so anxious to get home, so I could get proper care. It did not
help that my doctor did not come until the fifth day.

I was told that the hospital had closed it's ER shortly after I was
admitted, but the county ask it to open again.

How do you find the hospital that can give you proper clear? I go to
the hospital very seldomly, but it is usually for UTI, respiratory problems,
last time it was a coma, because of UTI that was septic. I remember not
being that good the last time and I was in ICU at a different hospital, because
the hospital that my doctors are was full. I remember going to the floor
my last day, and the CNA just disappearing during breakfast and they had to
have
persons from other departments get me ready to go home. It's incredibly
sad that you don't feel safe in the hospital.

My last trip to the hospital in Nov of '06 nearly killed me.
I went septic from a bad UTI and lay in bed for 11 days thinking I was about
dead. The nursing care was good and my bowels moved about every 6 hours
because of the strong antibiotics. There were a few very pretty 20 year old
nurses who came in to clean me up regularly - pretty humbling. I was very
glad
to get out and come home. I watch my UTIs much more closely now.

Funny you mention the bedside commode. My hospital couldn't find one
either. They looked all over, I think they finally went to a medical supply
store and rented one. Such an ODD thing to have in stock in a hospital. I
mean, the bathroom is only a few steps away, what's the big deal? This
basically points out the quad-ineptness of our modern day hospitals. We have
a major
hospital downtown Phoenix which is touted as having an excellent rehab unit.
Possibly a commode isn't such a rare item there.

It would really be interesting if others feel like we do about the hospital.
They don't seem to know what a digital is and they think they only have to
do one.

I really appreciate you writing about your experiences. Why are hospitals so

get what you need.
Seven days seemed like a month.

-

The last couple of times I have been in the hospital (which has only been
three times at the most in 12 years because of that very reason) ... If it
were not for my family or persons who cared about me and I would most
definitely be dead. No exaggeration.

During a two-week stay in Brooklyn (ugh!) in 1995... I did my bowel routine
in bed. And using the magic bullet with its quickness and efficiency at
that time compared to now... I was completely finished in 30 minutes or less

Shortly after that I was in the hospital (for a deep vein clot encouraged by
my surgeries in Brooklyn) near my small hometown in New York State and I
rather enjoyed the vacation but since my ex took care of my more intense
needs (like the way I need to move and my bowel routine, etc.) it was fine.
I was there a week and THAT time they brought in a bedside commode but it
was just one of those cheap white plastic and metal or steel legs one.

Again, if it were not for the magic bullets working so quickly... I could
have easily gotten pressure sores by having to sit on one of those cheap
plastic toilet ring ones for a lengthy period of time. My bedside commode
hear at home is 28 years old and has a thick cushion on it. I have always
kept it and I have not been able to find an equivalent online or anywhere.

My last time in the hospital (actually just the ER to be accurate) ... I
would not have lasted had it not been for my husband at my side. I should
learn to save my previous quad list e-mails because I wrote here about that
hellacious visit just for my doctor to meet me there to change my catheter
because the agency had an incompetent nurse who could not get in at home.
Never, in 28 years, has that ever happened! Getting my catheter change them
home with no problem that is.

to take me to radiology to try again but they decided to go with the neck IV
and my pneumonia finally looked better. My bowels quit working also and
luckily it was not a blockage, so I was put on Myralax and after about four
days it started working. I was so miserable as it looked like I had a
basketball in my stomach.

It is unreal the kind of care you get in the hospital for at least this one.
If my mother had not been around, I don't know if I would have gotten my
bowels to work again.

I would love to hear about others hospital experiences and if the nurses
will do digitals properly. I found that to be a real problem. I was glad
to have a good mattress that did not give me any breakdown.
I was so anxious to get home, so I could get proper care. It did not help
that my doctor did not come until the fifth day.

I was told that the hospital had closed it's ER shortly after I was admitted
but the county ask it to open again.

How do you find the hospital that can give you proper clear? I go to the
hospital very seldomly, but it is usually for UTI, respiratory problems,
last time it was a coma, because of UTI that was septic. I remember not
being that good the last time and I was in ICU at a different hospital,
because the hospital that my doctors are was full. I remember going to the
floor my last day, and the CNA just disappearing during breakfast and they
had to have persons from other departments get me ready to go home. It's
incredibly sad that you don't feel safe in the hospital.

I am lucky enough to have a hospital that is very familiar with
quadriplegics. However, if I go outside of the spinal cord wing it is a
battle to make sure that things get done correctly.

Over the last eight years I have ended up in the ICU twice and on one of
those occasions it was much worse than being on the normal floor. They had
no idea how to do quad coughs. Of course, my spinal cord floor wasn't much
better at the time. If I am able to stay home I try my best to do so. At
least I know my brother and sister-in-law can take care of most of my
breathing problems, but I have worn them out in the past. Now I'm lucky
that my hospital has a wing devoted to ventilator patient and the personnel
there are very familiar with quadriplegics who have respiratory
difficulties.

As I read all of your experiences I just shake my head in absolute disgust
about how archaic our medical system is. And the sad part is we are much
better than the majority of the world. At least that's what I think.

Actually no. But I like the old fashion using milk, not water and I make
enough to reheat the next day when I can add more milk, vanilla flavor
(watkins) and honey or cinnamon.

Thanks for your consideration. I usually take acidophylus about an hour after
an anti biotic. You may take a day or two to find out what your best amount is.
I wish you the best with it.
I was sick and it seems I'm fine on the tests but I'm still sleeping 18 hours a
day. I seem to be suffering from a sever case of Nappy's.
What is funny is I do write replies then I read them and start wondering if im
overdoing the morphine. If you read one of my posts and its way out in left
field,, well, that is probably where I was when I sent it.

Best Wishes,
john

long, you can get out to the park and throw some hard bread at the pidgeons
lol , bright sunny spring days may help you to not sleep as many hours as you
are right now.

Same information I was given. In fact, I suffer severely when I don't take
the probiotics when I am taking an antibiotic. Right now I'm recovering
from the flu and on Cipro. The probiotics is what helps me keep my bowels
in order. Although, I must admit that oatmeal has really helped me
considerably. I didn't believe it when I kept reading it on here, but once
I tried one bowl a day, I found it worked wonders on me.

It's a chalky tasting, chewable, pill that must be kept refrigerated.
That's easier than eating so much yogurt.
