Drives me nuts when people reach for my controller and think they're going to
'just move me alittle. A nurse did this once in a small room. Before I could
stop her I had her pinned up against the wall with a standing tray between us.
I AlWAYS have mine set on high (or fast) because I know how to control it

Just remembered one of the most common annoyances of all!

One of the first things I noticed that able-bodied people do all the time
amongst themselves that doesn't work with C5 quads too well, is handing you
something. Sometime they don't even get close, assuming you can lean-forward
to reach it.

Sometimes I'll grab between my two paws, but most times I'll ask them to put
it down on my lap, or on an adjacent surface. Its amazing how many people
(friends and family) don't remember, so I have to repeat Can you put it down
here for me?

Funny. My left hand has about 10% normal use - I can grab and open part
way - wrist flex is so-so, surprising how little function can fool most
people. My right hand will sort of grab if I force something into it - tiny
wrist flex ability - mostly a paw.I do nearly everything with my left
hand and keep right one down. A gal at work that I had lunch with for at
least 15 years once asked what I was doing when I put my semi-open left hand
up to my flexed right paw when she asked me to clap. She really had no
clue.Pretty amazing. What could I ever expect them to know about
digesting, and eliminating.Ignorance is bliss. I also had a 30 year
experienced nurse put her knee in my back in my manual chair to push me down a
rounded curb where my footrests had dug in. I grabbed fast enough to stay
in - barely.

I always hate it when the waitress or waiter always assumes someone else is
going to be paying the bill. Well, in their defense I usually do tell
others to do it for me, but they act as if I am incapable of having money.

Should I even dive into the subject of how many people wait until I have
left to ask my caregivers what happened to me? It annoys the hell out of my

Yes! I also find that most people want to stand off to the side, which hurts
my neck even more. And when i turn my chair to try to face them straight-on,
they will adjust by moving to the side again.

I do so appreciate people who squat or sit to talk.

I don't like it when people lean on or hang onto my wheelchair like it's a
piece of furniture there for their convenience while standing and waiting
with me for whatever reason. I consider it a violation of my personal space,

mind it if it's my girlfriend or someone else endearing doing it.

I love it when someone opens both doors for me - like I'm too big for just

Yes, yes, yes. This happens to me way too often. I think people do it
because they think you really can't drive that thing. So, they have
to give you plenty of room in case you might go crashing into one of the doors.

The same sort of thing happens when I'm driving along a sidewalk, and
someone approaches me. They more often than not step off the sidewalk
and into the gutter. It's as if they are afraid I will lose control
of my chair and crash into them. Whenever someone does this, I veer
my chair away from them, which often makes them look embarrassed.
