None of the errors show; there's no box to display the errors in.

This happens to me on and off.  I RStyle something, it'll report the errors,
but I don't get the box that explains what each error is.  I do get the
highlighted rows, so I can sorta see where the errors are, but I need the
explanation sometimes.
I've looked and can't find a setting to turn this back on, and I don't see any
gutters that I can grab and expand, in case I had accidentally closed the space
up.
Anyone have a clue for me?

I should've mentioned that up front.

This form is called from the main menu, which has a Group Bar control.  This is
one of the group bar options with a simple "edit using" command, nothing else.
No timers on the main menu.

So do we all think there's some kind of "auto save" setting in the startup file
that might cause this?  If I had designed this system, it'd be easy to post the
startup parameters for your perusal.  But someone else designed this app, and
to track down the myriad of settings is quite the process.    If I knew a
particular setting that might cause this to happen, I could search for it!

There's no form timer.  I don't think there's a form timer anywhere within this

later than that (I have waited up to a minute before it happened).  There is a
SET TIMER in the app, I think set for a couple hours, but RBase isn't exiting

Yes, I need the values in those two variables after I exit the form to be used
in an email that will be sent after the form closes.  The variable data isn't
saved anywhere.

So -- is there an "auto save" somewhere?  Either a form setting or a "SET"

Re: [RBASE-L] - CVAL CONNECTIONS

2024-04-03 Thread 'jim schmitt' via RBASE-L
 HA, HA.
Tell the 'BOSS' to be more careful.
Concerning the backup message for the operator, I thought it would be more
informative to give the operator the number of users connected, like:

But, I can simply change the message to 'YOU HAVE OTHER USERS'.
As far as 'error' logs, I too utilize a 'Tracking' table, to log the time,
date, operator, function, etc, for entry and exit into the system.I also track
the description and 'operator entered' options for all major functions in the
system.  This has proved to be invaluable when errors occur.   The log or
tracking table is the largest table row-wise in the system.

Hi Jim,

Yes, the number of users would be nice to know.  I do have a UserLog table in
most of my applications.  I have a routine called RBOnline.CMD showing all
users who have either not logged out, or exited ungracefully so as to not post
a log-out time.

This just happened 10 minutes ago – the BOSS was on the program!

Good to hear from you...The only thing I really like with the
'CVAL(''connections'))' option is that it responds with an integer # (of
connections), but when it's incorrect it doesn't do any good.      Although,
sometimes it is the correct number (of connections).

Your method is what I used to use, but I thought it would be better to inform
the operator of exactly how many users are connected, and need to exit.

 Hi, Karen:
Thanks for the sample.I guess i missed it, and thought that the print
command with email on and options could figure out the host/port/authentication
issue on its own.   but, not true.  I guess I'll have to mess with the email to
determine the settings, which I have never done.    Thanks again.

Try adding a line for the attachment.

You may want to set the attachment as a variable with the complete location.

Try something like this and see what happens.

2023-06-26 Thread 'jim schmitt' via RBASE-L
Happening at 3 different client, database and all program files are in the
'C\UBILL' director, so, yes, many files, approx 70.Doesn't 'source file' refer
to the input source file ?   I need the because the operator may backup
multiple times per day, and we don't want to use the same name as the last
backup name, hence we embed date and time.
Still searching..

Yes, but a very long time ago now I had backup copying problems and ended up

without the and with quotes to allow spaces

Stupid question I'm sure but there really are files to copy at the time?

Has windows been upgraded? If so defaults might not be the same.

Good luck, Alastair.

[RBASE-L] - form problem

2023-02-27 Thread 'jim schmitt' via RBASE-L
Hello group - good day to all:
Just ran into a problem with one of my main menu forms. When I tried to bring it
up for an edit, the screen was all white and the form did not appear on the
screen. when clicking on forms, under database explorer,  and  Looking up the
associated table for the form, , it had ("") beside the table name.  Tried to
find the reason for the '("")'  in the Help notes but to no avail. Can someone
point me in the right direction for this mishap?   .Version X.
Thanks in advance...

[RBASE-L] - out of dynamic space epilog

2022-12-29 Thread 'jim schmitt' via RBASE-L
Thanks to Karen, Razzak, Randy, Mark, Nicky, and Rehan for their great
suggestions to my clients 'OUT OF DYNAMIC SPACE' problem.
I dialed in to the client, and tried to do a Reload and Pack, but it blew
up.Next, I copied the db and files to my computer, and did a Reload and Pack -
worked great, and then tested the db - that worked too.
Dialed back in and transferred the db and files back to client. Fired up and
again 'OUT OF DYNAMIC SPACE'
Tried to tracethe errorduring my testing, everthing went to an extremely
slow mode for about 1 1/2 hours.
So after a day being down, the clients network IT tech called me..he dialed
in..then magicallyeverything worked, and was unbelievably fast.    He
claimed he didn't do antthing (yeah, right).
So, as usual NO PROBLEMS WITHIN R:BASE (it's running like a champ)
..the culprit was somewhere in the client's computer and/or the IT tech guy.
No clue as to what caused the 'OUT OF DYNAMIC SPACE' error; I guess i'll never
know.   Client is now happy once more.
But, again thanks to all for the great suggestions, and HAPPY NEW YEAR !
Jim Schmitt

2022-12-26 Thread 'jim schmitt' via RBASE-L
Good Day to all:
A client called today with a minor problem, version X5E and on a server,; when
I dialed in and connected to them and attempted to run the application, I
received an error of:  'INTERNAL ERROR  -  out of dynamic space'.   i have
never experienced this error. and am at a standstill.
Can anyone explain  what this error means. ?
Thanks in advance..

One way is to get a DIR of the directory into a file, load it into a table and
then use a SELECT... INTO  to get the filename.  Of course you would add lots
of error checking.  But code like the following
Karen

  OUTPUT c:\temp\file.txt
  DIR d:\YourDir\*.csv
  OUT SCR

  DROP TABLE tmpFile
CREATE TEMP TABLE tmpFile (dirfiledate TEXT 10, dirfiletime TEXT 8, +
    dirfilesize TEXT 10, dirFilename TEXT 100 )

  SET NULL -0-
LOAD tmpFile FROM c:\temp\file.txt AS FORMATTED USING +
    dirfiledate 1 10, dirfiletime 13 20, dirfilesize 31 40 dirfilename 42 141
  SET NULL ' '
DELETE ROWSFROM tmpFile WHERE dirfilename IS NULL OR dirfilename LIKE
'byte%' +
OR dirfilename = '.' OR dirfilename = '..' OR dirfiledate CONTAINS
'directory'

Re: [RBASE-L] - Capture a file Name possible

2021-07-26 Thread 'jim schmitt' via RBASE-L
 Hi, Tony ,

Thanks for the speedy reply , but there will be only one PAYMENTScsv file
each day, and I would like to get the file name without having the operator to
choose it.
If I could get the name in a var, I could parse the date and capture the date.

Thanks,

If the filename does not have always the same length, you can use a procedure
like this

-- capture the file name using procedure of Tony Luck
   SET VAR vfile  = 'PAYMENTS_637467300105556434-20210120-030011.csv'
   -- (SLOCP(TextNoteVarcharValue,string,occurrence))
-- assuming '-' is always used in the filename
   -- locate startposition
   SET VAR V_STARTPOSITION = ( (SLOCP(.vfile ,'-',1)) + 1)
   -- (SGET(text,nchar,pos))
-- get datevalue as a textvalue
   SET VAR V_PAYMENTDATE_TXT TEXT = (SGET(.vfile ,8,.V_STARTPOSITION) )
   -- (RDATE(mon,day,yr))
-- convert text value to a date value
SET VAR V_PAYMENTDATE DATE  = (RDATE(  (NINT( (SGET(.V_PAYMENTDATE_TXT,2,5))
)), (NINT( (SGET(.V_PAYMENTDATE_TXT,2,7)) )), (NINT(

There's a few ways to achieve that, here's one I use to capture the file name
of a file we import twice daily using a CHOOSE statement that popups up the
files for the operator. CHOOSE vfile FROM #LFILES IN TITLE 'Press ESC
to Exit' +
CAPTION 'Am Data Import File' OPTION LIST_FONT_SIZE 12 +
 TITLE_FONT_SIZE 12 | TITLE_FONT_COLOR BLUE

From there, if the file name always places the date in the same spot you can
use SGET function to extract it.
P.S. I use an ampersand variable to store the network directory the file is
loaded to.

[RBASE-L] - Import File

2020-11-17 Thread 'jim schmitt' via RBASE-L
Hi, Group:
Need some assistance today.  I have worked previously with Exporting files, but
have not worked with Importing files.  Now I have a potential new customer who
wants me to Import data from another system.   I have enclosed the tab
delimited test file (only two records), but cannot get it to load.  Using RBX5E.
Test File attached.
Do I need to set up a table in the database with the same names as in the test
file ? Is this truly a tab delimited file ?  Nothing seems to be working ?Maybe
the file has Covid  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jim

2020-09-02 Thread 'jim schmitt' via RBASE-L
 Dan, Razzak, and Karen:
Found something interesting this PM, concerning my problem with being able to
change the label contents.
If I leave the 'format' option in the View/Toolbars unchecked, the field pops
up on the right side of the screen so that I can change the label verbiage.
Again, thanks to you three for your ideas.
Regards.

I am trying to work with our web administrator in bringing order information
into RBASE using FTP.

The FTP syncornizer creates an Excel file from the web then send that Excel
file to our server. I then create code that brings that file information into
RBASE using GATEWAY.

Here is the glitch. On the web side, the automated sync downloading the Excel
file fires even if there is no info to send to us. That means I end up with a
file that has a header row but no actual information to import.

My GATEWAY just hangs up if there is no actual info to import.

So my question. Is there some code or GATEWAY setting that can check an Excel
file for info so it will not import?

My web man says he cannot set up the FTP to NOT send files (if no info
available) if it is automated to sync with my server at set times.

The only other option is for the web to export to our server all the web
traffic every time. That eventually will get to be a BIG file if our web
traffic increases as we wish.

Can anyone think of anything I can do on the RBASE end?

Over the course of many phone calls, Bill and I commiserated in our

With great sadness, I'm writing on behalf of Bill's wife JoAnn to say

[RBASE-L] - forms problems

2019-07-18 Thread 'jim schmitt' via RBASE-L
Good morning to all:

When working with forms this AM, I am seeing something I have never seen before.

Under Database exployer > FORMS > when viewing the list of form names, form
table, on a few forms I see () to the right of the Form Table name.

If I highlight the form, and choose design, I get a form design with nothing on
it (white screen).
Can anyone tell me what causes this?

Thanks in advance.

Jim

 Thanks Albert:

No passwords used on my tables.

After many hours on this issue, I did discover the culprit - a field named PST
(abbreviation for Payer State. I changed the field to PSTATE, and everything
worked fine.

Also, a big shout out to John at RBase for pointing me in the right direction
to start today.

Thanks again.

Good Morning:

I have installed RB X.5 - latest version for a new user.
New application...when she tries to add a new account, she received the message
'Unauthorized access to table PAYERS for user NONE (2039)'.
I don't understand what is causing this problem.never had it before

In doing a {CVAL('USER')), it returns a user name of NONE.

Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Hi, Dan:
Karen's example does have a matching ENDIF, just above the ENDWHILE command.
Her ENDWHILE closes the loop.Everything looks OK to me in her example.

Albert:
Insert a variable field, such as vf_landing, which will be defined as tab stop,
and mark it autoselect, and you can 'hide' it behind the last field.   Next,
put an on exit eep on the last regular field, with a ''nextrow' command.  Your
eep isn't firing because the last field doesn't have a place to land.

I have a form used to enter offerings for my parish. The form is shown below.

We do not want null or $0.00 amounts to be added to the database, and the
