[RBW] Problems with Nitto stems and bars?

2020-06-27 Thread Jon Dukeman,central Colorado
Well I have searched this thread for the word TORQUE..maybe I missed it.
NITTO strongly says torque the handle bar bolt 14- 16 Nm.
My suggestion disassemble the handle bar and stem. Clean all the parts
including any shims or spacers with alcohol . reassemble and only grease the
threads of the M 8 handle bar bolt. And torque to 14- 16Nm

Re: [RBW] Possible issue with Nitto Tallux stem and Nitto Albatross bars

2018-12-28 Thread Jon Dukeman,central Colorado
Try cleaning the stem and bar where they meet of any grease or oil.
Torgue the M8 bolt to :120-140inch pounds or14-16Nm

Many times we think a bolt is tightened enough but actually isn't.
A torque wrench will prevent damage from over tightening and remove any doubt.
If you don't have a torgue wrench take your bike to your LBS and they should
check the torque for you free of charge.
If that fails to stop the bars from slipping try shimming the stem as others
have mentioned above.

[RBW] I RECEIVED MY SOLEREBEL SHOES

I put them up against my foot sketch and the outside of the shoes are close

I will take them to Goodwill and maybe someone can use them. I will not

Like most here I bought the shoes to first help these people and second to
actually get a pair of shoes that fit.
I hope others here have better luck.

I have the Abus Bordo Granite 6500 folding lock. www.abus.com

[RBW] BUY A FRAMESET OR JUST SOME PARTS

2018-02-25 Thread Jon Dukeman,central Colorado
Everyone here knows Rivendell means quality as well as comfort and quality
performance. They sell what they ride and it just works.
Now is the time to buy a frameset that you have always wanted. If not for
now maybe to build up later.
If you can't swing a frameset.Stock up some parts for your existing Riv
bike. You are going to need at some point chains, chain rings,
cassettes, new cables and housing, tubes & tires. How about those cork
grips, bar tape? They would look good on that special handle bar you have
always wanted to try. If you have a front rack you should try one of those
Wald medium baskets with a basket net to hold your shop sack in place.
Now is the time to get parts for your salty commuter bike and be ready for
spring.

[RBW] BROOKS PROOFIDE not free

2018-02-21 Thread Jon Dukeman,central Colorado
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/161b9e1649d81606

Sign of the times
My first Brooks Saddle came with a small canister of Proofide to treat my
saddle.
My second Brooks came with Proofide in a little ketchup packet like you get
at baseball game .
Now it looks like you will have to pay for it when you buy a Brooks saddle
starting February 28th.
See e-mail from Brooks.

[RBW] Re: CANTI SAM BUILD

2018-02-19 Thread Jon Dukeman,central Colorado
Jonathon,
Thanks for the complement.
I have only ridden the canti Sam twice. Obviously the canti Sam is lighter.
I don't plan on adding any more accessories to the Canti Sam.
I still have the double top tube Sam and it's has everything..front & back
racks, basket ,Fenders, Dyno hub, fr.& rear lights.Much heavier.
The canti Sam is set up exactly like the double top tube as far as
measurements go and seems more responsive. The canti Sam has 44mm tires the
dbl top tube has 38mm.
They both are comfortable to ride.
I'll post more later.
You will love your Sam.It will serve you nicely however you want to set it
up.
If you have questions ask away.

So there is this house that has had a car parked in front of the house for
a month.Nobody has driven it.
You decide to take it in fear that someone might start parting out the car
and selling the parts.
You get caught with the car and you tell the police "Officer it was parked
in front of that house for a month.
I just took it so nobody would steal it". Officer says " Oh Okay..Put your
hands behind your back .
Officer gets back to the station and tells his buddies." Hey you should of
heard the excuse a guy gave me for stealing this car.

Felt terrible leaving it, as they had a perfect record until now. All I

What's doubly sad, I can't find anywhere else on eBay to buy helicopter

Re: [RBW] Re: New tires, perhaps?

2017-02-26 Thread Jon Dukeman,central Colorado
Leah,
Remember if you don't ask you will never know. Ask the bike shop for an
exchange. Worst case they say no.You walk away unhappy and they lose a
customer. They can put the exchanged tires on another bike or sell them at a
reduced price. The bike shop I worked at did that all the time. The same with
saddles. We wanted the customer to be happy.
If flat protection is a priority

over comfort go with the Schwalbe tires.
Like others I question putting bmx tires on your bike.I'd ask them why they
chose those tires???Almost like they were taking advantage of you.
Good luck.

Re: [RBW] Re: New tires, perhaps?

2017-02-25 Thread Jon Dukeman,central Colorado
Leah,
I wonder if your new tires have a taller profile than the old ones and that
might be causing all the scraping of pebbles and noise from sand and
gravel scraping the fenders.
My Sam and Cheviot have the same tires. The Sam has P45 fenders and I hear
pebbles, & sand scraping the fender all the time. The Cheviot has P50
fenders with more clearance and I rarely hear any scraping of pebbles or
leaves.
Just a thought.
It might be the stickiness of the rubber throwing sand like others have
said.
Enjoy your new ride.
