Well...maybe not for everyone. Moving my saddle forward to near KOPS cured
some nagging lower back pain for me. I happily use zero setback posts on
all my bikes, which are mostly 73 degree seat tubes give or take 1/2
degree. Steve

Heh, yeah. I recall on a tour from the Pacific Ocean (Astoria, WA) to the
Mississippi River (south of RedWing, MN) how the humidity level changed
almost overnight. We went from hung-out wet stuff being dry in 1/2 an
hour to leaving it overnight and finding it wetter than when we hung it!
Happened right around the time we crossed the Missouri River as I recall.

[RBW] 52cm, 650b-wheeled Quickbeam for sale.

2017-08-04 Thread Steven Frederick
I bought this new from Riv in 2010 It's from the last/final batch of
Quickbeams they did. It's silver with blue trim, and - unique to that last
batch - is a 52cm frame built around sidepull brakes and 650b wheels. It
easily fits Hetres with fenders, and is a great riding bike. But I find
that singlespeed/fixed riding just isn't much fun for me anymore. I've
only ridden it once or twice a season the last few years, so I'm thinking I
should let it pass to someone who would enjoy it more. I'd like to limit
potential buyers to those willing and able to meet up within 100 miles or
so of Lansing, Michigan for now-if nothing comes of it, I will consider
shipping at some point. Or just keep it. We'll see.

It's not stock-the wheels, brakes, stem and headset are the only original
parts I think.

It has a White Industries Dos Enos 19/17 double freewheel on the rear
wheels flip side and 16t fixed cog on the flop side. It has a Sugino
110mmBCD double crankset with (as I recall) 40/38-t rings mounted on an, as
I recall, Sugino 103mm spindle bottom bracket.

Tires are 1st gen, 38mm PariMotos with little wear, an indicator of how
little I've ridden it lately.

Silver, Zero set back post and Selle San Marco Regal saddle.

Grey Shimano cable housing and metallic blue Fizik Microtex tape (over
Fizik gel padding) are nice matches for the silver and blue frame. Bars
are silver 44cm wide Soma HWY1, which feature a short reach and shallow
drop. Brake levers are small-hands-specific Tektro Ergos.

SKS 50mm wide fenders with quick release sockets front and rear. (having
the QR in back makes it much easier to remove the rear wheel.)

Also included, Crane bell, Zefal frame pump and an older but good condition
black Acorn saddle bag. Pedals of various sorts are also available, if
wanted.

I'd like $1,100 but will consider offers. No trades desired.

I think that's about it-it's very clean, never been crashed or dropped.
Well, it's a little dusty, actually-when I do ride it, it is usually on
mixed dirt/paved road rides. But there's scarcely a mark on it. It's also
quite a rare bird-there aren't many out there.

large. So I went with Prana' Nemesis Knickers. They're actually climbing
knickers but have very little elastic other than the built in stretch of
the fabric. The opening of the leg area flares some as opposed to cycling
specific ones but doesn't bother me.

I also wear their shorts made of the same fabric.

My knock on other manufacturers of cycling knickers is how tight they are
seeming in my use to be restricted in all the wrong places when in motion.

 YMMV.

I'm not interested in the calories burned or heart rate, fitness or cadence
features of the higher end ones, but I do think some of the map/routing
features on the touring models might be kinda fun. What's the best
model/level for a technically challenged Garmin newb to buy?

I primarily bought it to eliminate having to recalibrate computer every
time I switched tires. Plus, I ride 6 bikes when including our tandem and
use only one Garmin. Used to use 2 Sigma computers, which I think are the
best, when I only had 4 bikes. Problem was, I often brought the wrong
computer when driving to my location, d-oh! Also, between the 2 computers I
could never remember when I last changed batteries so at least once a year
the computer would die on a ride.

The Garmin has built-in, USB or AC plug rechargeable battery and the
coolest computer map recall feature that I could ever want. I love looking
at new routes that I've ridden using Garmin Connect. It's a data lover's
dream but that's not a plus for me. Just the reliability.

Yeah, only that last run of silver 'Beams included 50 and 52cm frames.
They were sidepull braked and 650b wheeled. I have a 52cm but I wouldn't
sell it. The 54cm should be manageable for you with your PBH-mine is
similar and all my other Rivs have been 54's. You'd probably appreciate
the canti-brakes anyway, if you want to ride it off road. Mine is pretty
much strictly paved/dirt road specific; I have a singlespeed mountain bike

What are the disadvantages other than having to use spacers and possibly a

Re: [RBW] Longboard Sizing

2014-07-26 Thread Steven Frederick
I'd try the 45's if I were you--they give good but not excessive coverage
over 32mm tires on my Rambouilet and they're very flexible--almost
alarmingly so until you get the stays attached and adjusted. Shouldn't be
much trouble to squeeze them in there...

Re: [RBW] Advice: crank arms less than 165mm

Maybe just raise the seat and see if that helps rather than moving it back

Re: [RBW] If you were going to go out and buy a fully modern contemporary bike, what would it be?

2014-06-27 Thread Steven Frederick
I'm pretty satisfied with my modernish steel road bikes--I might be tempted
by a disc-brake equipped version (say a 650b version of the Gunnar
Fastlane) but what I have works fine. I get my modern bike kicks off
road, with suspension-equipped trail bikes. And a fat bike. Gots to have
a fat bike...

A few of us maybe has a Gates beltbike, or a newfangled folder, or a
dual-suspension 29er. Some of us even have a carbon bike.

My stable is now at 9 bikes all steel, but I'll admit that I'm pretty
 darned infatuated with this bike:

 https://s3.amazonaws.com/NinerCompleteBuilds/Complete_bike_images/RLT+9/RLT9_Force_4star.jpg

A sloping TT road bike, with more BB drop than a cyclocross bike. 135mm
rear end, disc brakes. Very smart front facing fork tips and normal wheel
axles. Takes 29x1.75 tires without fenders, and would easily run 700x38
tires (tubeless) with fenders. Has all the integrated fender mount points.
Has a PF30 BB that makes it easy to set it up as a singlespeed.

Add to that I can get the frame/fork/headset from Jenson for $1050 and get
a free $250 gift card for my next purchase(s). So it's an $800 frameset.
I'm having a hard time thinking of anything not to like. Five years ago,
when we whined that modern bikes were designed too much for pure road
racers, this is the kind of thoroughly modern real-world bike I thought was
missing. I have bikes that are setup to carry loads well. For mixed
terrain stuff that I'd do unloaded, this bike would definitely get ridden.
I imagine it would be incredibly fun

Are there any thoroughly modern bikes that tempt you?

I'm in the market for a new multi-tool for on-bike repairs and

carry. The ones I've used most have been the allen wrenches in various
sizes up to 8, the chain tool, the 10mm box wrench (I think 10, it's
whatever size adjusts the nuts on fenders), and very occasionally the flat
screwdriver. The chain tool is a definite keeper, I've used it a number of
times to help friends (and once for myself).

I thought there was a discussion a few months ago about on-bike tools,
but a search of the archives didn't turn up anything.

Thanks!

PS -I also carry a couple of zip ties, duct tape wrapped around a
piece of cardboard (has seen various uses including to keep bandages on),
couple of cut-up segments of old tires and plastic tire levers/patch
kit/tube. On a tour, a few other bits and pieces in case of missing bolts,
broken chain.

Couple of suggestions from a mountain biker's perspective. Try a higher
gear--click up just one. It sounds counter-intuitive, but the momentum of
the big, heavy wheels and tires will actually roll you along better. Also,
try moving your hands inward on the bars for stability. (assuming you have
wide flat mtb-ish bars on there...)

balance. I never understood that. I don't have a bit of problem riding at
2.5 mph for long periods of time when I'm climbing something ridiculously
steep on one of my Rivendell bikes.

But now I understand. I thought when I bought my new Surly Krampus
mountain bike I'd be able to climb even steeper dirt roads than I now can
climb on my Atlanti. I thought, I have an absurdly low gear on the Krampus
(15.6 inches, something like that), I have all the traction in the world, I
 can climb anything.

But no. I'm finding that I climb *worse* on the Krampus. It's
frustrating. There are dirt sections that I have no trouble on with the
Atlantis, with smooth tires, that I can't climb on the Krampus with the
 knobbies.

What's going on here? Front-end geometry? Wheel weight? Bottom bracket
height? I'm beginning to think I should have bought the Surly ECR (like
several people recommended) instead of the Krampus. Or maybe I just need to
learn how to climb on this new bike.

On the other hand, when I bought the bike I also thought I'd be able to
go down steep trails that I'm afraid to descend on the Atlantis, and that
has proved to be true. My husband took one look at my new bike and said,
Wow, you have better traction on that than you have on foot. When I apply
the brakes on a steep downhill, the bike *slows down* instead of skidding.

Re: [RBW] Stan's report: Longevity

2014-04-24 Thread Steven Frederick
I'm using Stan's both in a tubeless MTB set up and in tubes on my
Quickbeam, among other road bikes, and it seems to work about the same way
in both. Hear a hiss from a puncture, cuss, stop and look for it--see a
little fountain of Stan's shooting out of the tire, spin tire, the hiss and
fountain diminish and stop, in 3-4 revolutions, squeeze tire to make sure
it's not lost too much air, grin, get on and keep riding...

Before: a goathead flat every 2 to 5 miles; used, literally, 20 patches in
 one week.

After: no flat in 700 miles; Stan's still entirely liquid after 12 mos.

55 mm (as measured, 50 mm labeled) Furious Freds (700C), 25-30 psi. These
tires weigh about 30 grams more each than the Parigi Roubaix, so they are
 extremely light.

I never rode these without Stan's. Here is my experience with them with
 Stan's.

Tubed: once the goatheads matured in late fall and early winter, 1 flat
every 2 miles. Many of these would seal, reluctantly, if you stopped and
spun the wheel for 3 minutes, but many would not.

Tubeless: no flats. When I pry thorns from the casing the air will escape,
but a few revolutions of the wheel seals the holes. One experienced in
goatheads told me simply to leave the thorns in the casing and let the
heads break off, leaving the points to plug the holes.

[RBW] Grant on tires

Interesting encapsulation of Grant's preference for beefier tires. (vs the

I have 4, trail bikes, and there's not much overlap there. I've been trail

I have a Soma Juice 29'er hardtail set up as a singlespeed, a custom Curtlo
softail 27.5'er (650b) softail for milder cross country, a Turner Burner
27.5er full suspension for bomber trails and riding over silly stuff, and a
Salsa Mukluk fatbike for winter riding and general fun.

That said, I've also got a MB-Zip which is ridiculously light and fun to

brazed on myself. That one still sees quite a bit of dirt, too.

This was my first flat after about 500-600 miles of riding, which I guess
isn't *that* bad. Guess my hopes were raised by Jan Heine's blog post:

The Grand Bois Hetre 650B x 42 mm tires are amazingly flat-proof for
most riders. I have had two flats in three years of urban riding on them.
It's probably a combination of the width - less pressure means that the
tire can roll over debris without it cutting into the rubber - and perhaps
 the tread profile.

If you're running GB Hetres, what is your experience with flats?

FWIW, I only (relatively) briefly lost interest in hanging out with my

My preference is to put my bike(s) inside the vehicle as well, to the

It is much, much easier to put a bike in a Honda Odyssey than to put
it on a rack (provided the third row of seats are folded down, which
can be done in 30 seconds). You just pick up the bike and put it in
the car. If the Honda Odyssey is transporting four or fewer people and
therefore only needs two rows of seats, putting the bike in the car is
trivial. If the rear seats are still up, then it becomes more of a
 nuisance.

Changing the tires was no big deal. The bulk of the time was spent
adjusting the fenders to fit around the fatter rubber. That involved, among
other things, using a Dremel to cut off the protruding end of the daruma
bolt that holds the front fender onto the fork crown. Yes, the 35s needed
every millimeter of clearance I could get (the rear wheel wouldn't even
spin when I first put it in, due to a lack of clearance, even though the
 28s had gobs of room).

Results are in the photos here:

I haven't had a chance to ride it yet, other that a spin up and down the

tires certainly fill out the fenders much better.

the 700x28 size I've been using forever to a set of 700x35s (Paselas,
purchased from another member of this list).

Results are in the photos here:

 http://www.flickr.com/photos/campyonlyguy/sets/72157639957181314/

I haven't had a chance to ride it yet, other that a spin up and down
the block, but from an appearance standpoint alone it was worth it. The
fatter tires certainly fill out the fenders much better.

Ride report once I've had a chance to get it on the road.

[RBW] Bikes for sale-Michigan area listers please take note

2014-01-22 Thread Steven Frederick
I'm trying to thin the herd, as they say--listing some of my bikes for
sale. 52-54cm sized road bikes, including a classic Bianchi, a Heron Road,
a Bridgestone XO-1, a nice CoMotion tandem and a Rans recumbent. Ad with
pics and description here:

Really prefer not to ship at this point but would be willing to travel and
meet up with interested buyers within a reasonable distance of Lansing, MI.

Thanks, Steve Frederick, East Lansing, MI

I notice that effect a lot on the fat bike. LOTS of wheel weight there!
When you hit a climb with momentum on your side, you can feel that rotating
mass throwing you up the hill. It feels similar to the way a fixed gear

One relative constant has been allowable size for checked luggage, 62
linear inches. Outside that dimension you typically pay oversize fees even
if you don't exceed the maxiumum weight limit.

For the occasional trip, there is no doubt that paying the oversize fee
and dragging around a full-size bike box is cheaper. I liked the Crateworks
corrugated plastic box, it is lighter than a hard case but tougher than
cardboard, folds up for storage and can be re-used.

After a few trips, however, you could end up pay as much in fees as
buying couplers and the SS case. The advantages of SS, in terms of
reduced packing hassle and ease of movement during your trip, are of value
to me even if I never fully pay off through travel. This is especially true
with a tandem, where the trouble of lugging a huge box and paying big fees
at the counter isn't my idea of fun travel.

If you know you are going to travel with a frameset and are getting it
repainted anyway, it's the right time to consider couplers. I recommend
 them.

At first, I entertained the idea of installing SS couplers on the Ram

$$. So now I'm thinking about just flying with it, as is. The Ram is a

 the chief concerns.

Any good experiences? Things to avoid? Anything to report with

[RBW] NS bag and Nitto rack FS

2013-12-27 Thread Steven Frederick
I also have the Nigel Smithe greed tweed rackpack and the Nitto Campee rack
from Anne's Bleriot available. They're like new. I'd like $130 shipped
for the rack, $110 for the bag, or $220 for both

And the bike before the parts and accessories came off:

Thanks! Prices negotiable on all this, BTW.

Re: [RBW] Off-road excursion, not intentional

2013-12-21 Thread Steven Frederick
Assuming that isn't a rhetorical question, I think it's a combination of
target avoidance fixation and that countersteer thing, where you first have
to go a bit to the right before you can swerve left. I was a bit
squirrelly early in my road riding career and popped off the edge of the
pavement on a number of occasions. Fortunately my mountain biking
experience kept me from crashing as a result of any of these off road
excursions...

Once on a century in southern Oregon I went down into a grassy ditch,
rolled along it for a few yards and popped up onto a driveway and back onto
the road. The group I was with was agog, but my buddy who I'd ridden with
quite a bit said don't worry, he's always doing shit like that. B-)

Getting off a too small, twitchy Trek aluminum road bike onto a properly
sized Riv was a big help in keeping me on the straight and narrow. That
and practice.

Why is it that when you get too close to the right edge of the road, it's

I had a little brief off road excursion on one of my regular routes
yesterday. I was too close to the edge, and it just started going over, so
I went with it rather than fight it. Thankfully the ditch was smooth and
grassy, and the beer bottle I ran over didn't break. I was able to compose
myself and pull back on the road without damage to man or machine. But it
could have been much worse had conditions been different. I was probably
going around 20 at the time.

Ok - let's not do that again anytime soon :)

I have been enjoying my Sam for a long time now.
I call these RBW ideas because that is where I first heard about them
(thought I know they have been around for years, just not embraced so
 much
these days). I was an alu/composite race bike kinda rider until I
 started to
fear carbon failures and wanted to look into an all metal bike.

  I'll start:

RBW ideas that worked for me:
  1. Wider tires. This has made a huge diff for my quality of riding. I
 used
  to own a typical race bike with 700 x 25, 120psi tires.
It was great to ride, but hard to handle as it banged and bounced and
tires got yanked around on gravelly, busted up shoulders. Not to
 mention the
fear of getting the narrow tires caught in longitudinal road cracks.
Got my Rivendell bikes and have used 32mm-40mm ~55psi tires on them
 and
  what a difference.
No more bike bouncing. Slight rumbling and I am through the rough road
parts. Tires stay on their straight course through the bad patches and
 I
feel so much safer. Cush to boot. Very stable handling.
I cannot see myself ever going back to anything narrower than 32mm
 wide
tires. They seem dangerous to me now.
  2. Fenders. I never woulda dreamed of putting these on a bike in the
 past.
But now I don't see riding without them making any sense to me. It is
 just
good to be prepared and not have to worry about grunging up the bike
 with
the street scum. They look great to boot, and are standard equipment
 on my
bikes. I love the ultra coverage of the longboards.
  3. Leather saddles. No more butt pain. yay! What a smooth surface to
 sit
on. I did have a little break in for a coupla weeks, but another dab
 o'
proofhide broke her in and now its great.
  4. Steel bike/lugs/cream headtubes/metal head badges. Such a stable
 ride,
beautiful to look at, and no worries about did I tension that bolt
 1nM too
far?. Feels good to not have to wonder about failures. The lugs and
 paint
  jobs are intoxicating.
  5. Smaller chainrings/bigger cassettes/Triples. Healthiest pedaling I
 have
ever felt in my legs. The Sugino toothcounts work great for my neck of
 the
woods. I would never want to go back to 39-52 or 30-40-54 cranks
 again. And,
I have discovered that compact cranksets aren't for me. I love
 triples.
  6. Big Saddle bags. I love that I can carry lunch, repair kits/tools
 and a
jacket in my Carradice, etc. So convenient. No more wondering how will
 I fit
everything into my small nylon wedge.
  7. Cotton tape/twine and shellac. I balked at the idea as just taking
things too far. But when my Sam arrived with it, it just looked so
 beautiful
and natural and much better than electrical tape. Its fun to do, too!
  8. Bar end shifters. At first I thought that it was ridiculous not to
 have
the convenience of brifters on a bike. But when I got my first Rivbike
 with
bar ends, it was love at first shift. Just makes it so much more fun
 to play
with those things than brifting. I think it also encourages your hands
 to
move around more on the bars and I think that helps keep the numbness
 at
bay. A quiet friction shift is a very satisfying sensation. And
 trimming is
  fun, too.
  9. Platform pedals/ditching the click-ins. I started using MKS Touring
pedals and cannot see myself ever going back to click ins. It is so
 nice to
be able to move the foot around and to just hop off the bike and walk
normally and not feel weird in public duck walking. Starting up at
 green
lights, all I have to do is just stand on the pedal and go. I don't
 have to
fumble across the intersection anymore to click in. And think of all
 that
  cash I save by

[RBW] Acorn Mini Rando bag for sale.

2013-11-19 Thread Steven Frederick
I'm going in another direction for luggage on my Stag so I need to sell
this bag. It's a ranger tan (more of a medium brown) Mini Rando bag by
Acorn. Very lightly used--I've ridden with it on the bike in dry
conditions 5-6 times--if I put it on a shelf and called it new you would
have no reason to doubt it. Pics of it on my bike here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/40738390@N08/sets/72157637801990463/

They are no longer on Acorn's page, so may have been discontinued--it's
essentially a small rack pack (meant to fit the Nitto M-12 front rack) with
an easy open lid for ready access to your stuff. (opens from either sides
via snaps on leather straps, and is hinged at the back by an elastic over
hook arrangement) It measures approx. 6.5 wide by 6/6.5 (slight taper
front to back) high by 11. long, so slightly bigger than the Little Loafer.
They were $107 plus shipping new--I'd like $100 shipped for mine, OBO.

Thanks, Steve Frederick, East Lansing, MI

limits ones ability to raise the bars. I recently bought a Rawland Stag

They've simply made the seat tube overly long, but the top of the head

frame? You really should not have to do that with a new frame if it is
made to fit you. If the steering tube is long enough before cut you can
add some spacers, but only so many. It's rather the opposite of a Riv type
frame where the top of the HT is well above the top of the ST. It's more
 like a track bike proportion.

In what I thought would be a simple task of choosing from several stems

don't have a threadless 1 1/8 26.0 clamp stem?!? How can this be? No
matter, I'll run by the bike shop and grab one, there must be a box full of
take offs. NOPE. Not one. Really? Really.

So after a bunch of fruitless hunting, I've resigned to the fact I'll
need to find and order something. There seems to be plenty of generic
offerings from Dimension, Origin8, etc on the bay but if I have to source
it non-locally then I'd rather go with something more fitting of the bike
and from a known manufacturer. And the kicker is to find one in silver. For
consideration, I'd like to use my nitto noodle for this along with a pretty
 Rivish build.

My original thought was finding an old Thomson to keep it US made but
although cool, they have a decidedly industrial vibe. Especially the older
26.0 clamp versions. Still they DO pop up in silver from time to time which
would be nice. As far as other accessible offerings I did check into the
Nittos and they look pretty nice as would be expected. It seems there is
one version that is nearly a gun metal color as opposed to silver which
looks great, although I cant seem to find the 100 length in any of them.

So my quandary becomes...is the Nitto worth scrounging for to match the
bar? Anyone handle it in the metal? Or do I go clunky USA Thomson if I
can find one? Or do I throw it all out the window and use a black 31.8 bar
stem combo I have hanging in the garage?

Re: [RBW] Re: Velocity Rims, Again

2013-11-07 Thread Steven Frederick
I seem to recall that the rim profile was revised about the same time as
Longleaf had this run of 650b A23's made. That may be when the parallel
brake surfaces happened. I believe that's also when the updated the bead
hook to a more tubeless friendly design...

and they are parallel, as they should be. So they work as well with any
brake type as most other rims. The aero shape is below the brake track,
and does not affect braking in any way. It's interesting that while there
are so many wonderful 650B tires available, few well-designed 650B rims are
available today. Without giving too much away, the Velocity A23 appears to
 solve that problem, finally.

Re: [RBW] Velocity Rims, Again

2013-11-06 Thread Steven Frederick
I don't think the A23 is an official offering that they (Velocity) are
planning to stock. Longleaf (and now Boulder, evidently) special ordered a
batch. I assume there's a minimum number needed to make that happen.

FWIW, I also have some more recent Synergy rims that are very true to size
and nicely made. Came from the U.S. plant, though whether that's why
they're better or it's just that Velocity retooled in response to
undersized rim complaints is an open question...

Re: [RBW] Saddlebags vs Revelate bags

2013-11-01 Thread Steven Frederick
Mountain bikes are fun. Take a look at some of SOMA's offerings. They're
one of the least expensive brands that use frame size specific tubing in
their builds. I really like my Juice (set up as a singlespeed) and almost
bought a B-line.

The Revelate bags are designed to be minimalist and fit mountain bikes that
don't really have any allowance for touring gear. (no braze ons,
suspension complications, etc). They're also designed to be streamlined
and out of the way when trail riding, utilizing the dead spaces of the
frame (main triangle, under the bars, behind the saddle, etc)

Steve.

And I don't get it. Why would a bag like that, which is small and
which has a small opening so it's harder to load, be better than a
transverse saddlebag such as Carradice and Riv sell?

I was looking at different bikes at my LBS today, and oh, look at
that, suddenly mountain bike manufacturers like Salsa are selling
rigid bikes as mountain bikes. Hmm.

Also, as noted, I strongly suspect that a brake cable will not be be
flexible enough to give optimal shifting performance. This may be most
noticeable around tight bends such as under the BB cable guide to front
derailleur. Also, could be that this is more of an issue with indexed
shifting. I realize these standards were established prior to indexed
shifting so maybe I'm wrong about the reason but I've done some experiments
and the stiffness of a thick cable does appear to effect shifting IME.

Re: [RBW] Re-introduction

2013-09-20 Thread Steven Frederick
Heh, nicknames are funny. My gran'pa was called Spud. Not for any
'tater-esque qualities, but because it rhymed with his best friend's
nickname, Bud. Here come Bud and Spud, wonder what them boys are up to?
And so on.

Here's our Bubba, named for the MSU football player. He's the beefy fellow
on the right, backed up in his claim for a bag of cat grub by his brothers
Pete and Teddy. His fierce gaze hides a big heart and fondness for tummy
rubs! Sorry, just in a silly sharey mood on a friday afternoon.

You can't use Bubba; that's mine from my infant years. My baby sister, one
year younger, couldn't say brother so she called me asshole -- I mean,
bubba. This had nothing to do with my father's southern heritage where
Bubba is considered a desirable given name by the best families (Bubba
Fitzwilliam Makepeace Williamson IV for example.)

My siblings still call me Bubba, but not my brother because he finds it
 embarassing.

OK, so I went to change my email settings and Google told me that the
name 'William' was already taken, and that I had to change it. So...I did.
Nobody actually calls me William anyway. Manny calls me Will, but he's
the only one who does that. Everyone else calls me Bill or Bubba. Anyhow,
here's my reintroduction post, so those that like me or have a longstanding
beef with me won't be confused through the name change.
