@Belopsky: Agreed! I there's a lot to know before I can pull off this
project :) I'm learning fast though.

I'm getting wheels built by Rich Lesnik (the official wheel builder at Riv).

Already placed an order for Velocity Atlas front with SP dynamo.

Thanks Tim!

I'm going with VO. More $$ than I wanted to spend, but other options are a

Actually, the 12mm axle might be the one you need as this description
includes Mirage rear hub with cartridge bearings:

   - Also known as Fulcrum R5-120, identical part
   - Fits Campagnolo Bullet, pre-2013 Scirocco, pre-2014 Vento and Khamsin
wheels including CX variants, Campagnolo Mirage, Veloce and 2007/8 Centaur
hubs, Fulcrum Red Wind and pre-2014 Racing 4,
   - For use with Fulcrum and Campagnolo wheels that use 12mm axles and
   sealed cartridge bearings
   - For use with Shimano and SRAM 8, 9, 10 and 11 speed cassettes
   - Replaces FH-BU015X, WH-KX9 and R5-020

Note - Fulcrum and Campagnolo are related. I believe Fulcrum is Taiwan made
Campy parts.

link:
https://www.amazon.com/Fulcrum-Campagnolo-Freehub-Shimano-Cassettes/dp/B00BNZZ678/ref=sr_1_2?s=outdoor-recreation=UTF8=1479934913=1-2=campagnolo+freehub+body+for+shimano

So, the Total Cycling hub at $41 is a great deal, if it fits! Good Luck!

One option is to replace the Campy freehub body with one designed for
Shimano cassettes. Not sure if it works with a Veloce rear hub, but for
the Record/Chorus/Centaur with the oversized axle, but there are a couple
of options:

For standard 17mm axle, you will probably need this one:

http://www.totalcycling.com/en/Campagnolo-Freehub-Body-For-Shimano-891011-Speed---R1137139-17mm-alloy-axle/m-19018.aspx

For 9mm axle, it might be this one:

http://www.totalcycling.com/en/Campagnolo-Freehub-Body-For-Shimano-8910-Speed---R1134955-9mm-Steel-Axle/m-19019.aspx

You should verify which one will work with your specific hub if interested.

Another solution is the Jtek Shiftmate, way cheaper. Just use a
Shimano hub and cassette with your Campy shifter and derailer.

And I understand Campagnolo Ero 11 will shift a Shimano 9 speed
drivetrain (i.e., Shimano hub, cassette & derailleurs) perfectly with no
adapters required.

Buy a NOS older Campy hub, 9-11 are compatible. Pre-2006 are especially
good. Campy made lots of silver ones.

geez I sold mine on this group way too cheap, after checking eBay. Had a
Chorus and a Record hub, pre 2006 silver. The Chorus had only been ridden
a few miles.

Re: [RBW] Need help choosing rear hub for Soma San Marcos

2016-11-23 Thread Dan McNamara
The VO hub is a good option.

The White Industries T11 is another - although more expensive. Ben's Cycles has
the silver campy version for about $240.

Ben's also has a Miche hub set with a Campy rear - don't know anything about
that set but might be worth research.

You could run a Shimergo setup but you will loose minimum one gear depending
how you set it up. I have a Campy ergo 10-speed shifting a Shimano 8-speed
cassette on one bike. It shifts great front and rear. Might be worth research.

Rear is 130mm. There are many hubs that support Campy, but they have to be

Rear axle Over Locknut Diameter (OLD) is 130 mm for the San Marcos. The Tiagra
rear hub would fit the frame, but the freehub won't support a Campagnolo
cassette.

The Velo Orange Gran Cru rear hub is available in 130 mm OLD and a Campagnolo
freehub body, for $160. I'm very happy with mine.

The freehub pawls were a bit noisy at first; I added a tiny dab of grease to
each to quiet them.

[RBW] Need help choosing rear hub for Soma San Marcos

2016-11-22 Thread Ashwath Akirekadu
I've ordered Campy Veloce groupset. Having a hard time finding Campy hub
in silver color.

What is the axle width for this bike? 100mm or 130mm?

Also, would Tiagra rear hub work with Campy cassette?
