. It is a different setup than the VO porter stand. I had the Ursus on my Bomba

I have a few other as well

the VO Copenhagen / Massload was ok.

The Hebie Double was good but not as solid as the Ursus.

Hi Justin. I have quite a collection of dual legged kickstands gathered for
bike-with-kid service. I’ll send you some info tomorrow. I am local-ish so you
can check them out. Need to clean out the garage.

The Ursus is the best I used. Super stable and wide footprint. Helps with
wiggling kids whether front or rear.

If you poke around a bit your can see the other bikes here:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/41335973@N00/

My main go to bikes are my LHT and my singlespeed Cross Check. Lately I've
been doing a ton of riding on the CC. This past summer, which has gone by
far too quickly, I usually got out once a week for a ramble around the dirt
roads in the Mt Hood NF. Most of this riding I did on my LHT. I did manage
a 5 day tour on my Big Dummy which was pretty awesome, taking in miles of
dirt roads. There's some photos here:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/41335973@N00/albums/72157667520325613

While there are no more Rivs in my quiver, you can tell I have plenty of
Surlys. I love Surly. My CC is 10yrs old and I just love that bike. I've
threatened to sell it in the past but glad I haven't. My LHT is the bike I
wish my Hilsen was. The Hilsen was awesome but it shimmied at speed and
with a load. Furthermore, I like the stopping power of cantis over Silver
brakes, especially with a load or off-road. I recently put a Paul brake on
the front and am kicking myself for waiting so long. I'll eventually get a
Paul for the rear and for my CC.

The other bikes are my Krampus which I really haven't ridden much this
year. On the days where I could go mountain bike, I just felt like going
dirt road rambling. Just a little less stressful and overall better for my
head if that makes sense.

I also have a Salsa Vaya which I really want to like but the reality is I
don't. I'm not anti disc brakes but I just prefer cantis and the set-up on
my 10yr old CC. In fact, I'm thinking of selling the Vaya and getting a
second CC (geared). My Joshua Bryan randonneur is disassembled in the
basement and I need to work towards selling the frame. The last
randonneuring event I did was the Cascade 1200k and I don't see myself
doing riding like that anymore. Hell, I'd be more likely to race cross
before I randonneured again.

I turned 50 earlier this month. While I ride daily, the monthly mileage is
not what it was years ago and that's okay. I don't feel 50 and certainly
don't act it. My plan is to keep riding as long as I can. I love the idea
of growing older on the bike.

The concern over DP's vector change clearly showed the impact that his out
of the ordinary life and shared narrative provided the group.

I always heard that charity and good acts are meaningless if observing
their delivery is necessary. I think this list truly would want him to hear
their departing salutations, compliments and tidings, but if they go
unheard they are still as true. A tree has fallen in the woods...

If DP was sincere (and we all believe he was), then I doubt he's sitting
home reading the gush and glowing...which isn't to say slow down on it,
just that...he might not be actually reading it.

I asked him to call and he did and I said *whuddup*, and he sounded as he
always has (we've spoken to him A LOT over the years), and I asked if there
was an event that lead to this, or like, if he was reacting to something
somebody may have said or something, and he laughed that off and said
No-Tho I don't remember his exact words, he said something along
the lines of he just wanted to spend less time online. Remember, he has had
a remarkable life and continues to live a life much different than most of
us do, and it's not a surprise that he OD's at a lower dose than the rest

This is terribly disappointing. Your posts and pictures, and also your
wide-ranging discussions, have been inspiring and thought-provoking for me – we
are not always in agreement, but your manifest enjoyment of life (not just
bikes, but bikes, too!) has been a great joy to see on this list.

Like others, I hope you're not leaving because of a slight, real or perceived,

reconsider, but whether you do or not, I wish you the very best in your travels

Thanks, Bob. I got out this morning for a wondrous 4 mile ride through
golden aspen lined mountain road, a wee run, and pipe. It sure feels good
to get out again!

It's a funny thing, looking through everyone's trip photos not having

Subject: [RBW] Thank you

Nothing beats New Bike Day. Rode the new bike to work. It was funny because my
student's seem more excited about the bike then I am. LIke any new shiny thing
with wheels, all the kids wanted to ride it. I'm not good at describing the
feel of a new steel bike so I'll quote some of the things the kids say. So
smooth, The pedals are smart, This bike feels so right! was the general
conversation after students took turns riding it around the school. So since
school got out early I took the long way home. Decided to see if there was a
way to bike from Ed Levin to Mission Peak. There is but not an easy way. The
maiden bike voyage turned into a maiden hike the bike uphills. But the new
bike got dirty so all was well.

It's kind of hard to describe how guilt ridden I felt having to receive such a
nice gift. Call it my stubbornness to accept help or my pride of having to try
and deal with my mistakes on my own. Having gotten to talk to a bunch of people
on the forum in person they really helped me understand that it's okay to
accept other people's help. Grant put in better words Everybody who helps you
will be getting more out of it than they're giving, so you can legitimately
think of this as a gift the givers are giving to themselves. It's interesting
to note that despite how amazing this gesture is that the lovely folks at
Rivendell HQ didn't make a huge deal about it. Which made me feel a lot more
comfortable about accepting the bike, since it was done a month ago. (alas I
don't check my voice messages) It was funny because of how awkward I felt
during the last few months about the bike I didn't really have the courage to
ask about the progress or if it was even done. I figured when the bike was
ready and the time was right it would be done.
This bike is more meaningful to me knowing that so many people were willing to
contribute in so many ways. It's hard to even express a really thank you over a
simple forum, so I'll just do it through pictures.

Because pictures proved how grateful I am.

Manny,
Congratualtions! I'm looking forward to the accounts (and the photos that prove
they happen) of the adventures you undertake with the new bike. The maiden
voyage seems perfect in that regard.
The pictures of the kid checking out the bike are great!

Re: [RBW] Thank You for Marin County Advice - Erik, Mike, Jim, Phil

2010-12-27 Thread erik jensen
you are certainly welcome!

staying off the trails is a good bet--it'll take a while to dry out after
this much consistent rain.

i'll be back in town this thursday, and will have to go to work (already
took the holiday vacation), so i won't be able to join you. if you need any
bits or tools to solve any issues, i'm in oakland and can help you out with
that though.

don't miss the bovine bakery in pt reyes station, and there's a nice
fireroad near there that is 3 miles or so out to arch rock--it's very easy
(even in the rain, i'd imagine), and there's a bike rack where it closes to
bikers. that's a nice spot to hit when the weather is bad, since it's easy
enough--bad weather is magic for having trails to yourself, too, even here!
28s'd be ok, as it's well maintained by the national park service.

anyway, here's a link to that hike described by a hiker;
http://www.bahiker.com/northbayhikes/prbv.html

and photos from my blog;
here http://bikenoir.blogspot.com/2009/11/marin-minitour-203.html and then
here http://bikenoir.blogspot.com/2009/12/marin-minitour-25-3.html

enjoy the riding! it's a wonderful time to be out, i find these misty rainy
days to be so calming on the bike.

I still haven't done my ride in Marin. If I hadn't rained, I am sure I
would have gone for the fire trail on the Rambouillet, and just ridden
conservatively enough to be able to dismount if things got too technical
downhill. But given the recent wetness, I've decided to cut dirt roads out
of my mini-tour of Marin County. I am still hoping to do some road riding in
Marin this coming week. I'm getting ready to switch from JB's to Roughy
Toughy's for this ride and to put some fenders on the Ram. (Fenders and JB's
probably won't fit, but if by some miracle they do, the pictures will come
here first.) I checked the Riv site thinking, Splats. Sold out. Now that I
need them, this fact registers with me.

 Anyway, thanks again,
 Jim W.

p.s. e-mail me if anyone sees a possibility of joining me to ride this
week. I'm thinking Thursday. Wednesday could be good if avoiding rain is not
a concern. Showers in the Wednesday's forecast. Rain for Tuesday. Tomorrow
 is looking clear.
