On the Geared Hub Yahoo List, there was a recent saddle discussion. Someone mentioned that the "women's" Team Pro-S has the same width as a B17, but a shorter nose. I don't know if the top is as flat as a B17, but that sounds like a real good compromise! On Sat, Mar 20, 2010 at 9:09 AM, PATRICK MOORE wrote: > That's my experience with B-17s. Re: [RBW] Re: What's the right saddle for a Roadeo?
That's my experience with B-17s. The only one that has been comfortable is the one on the Sam with bar flats just under an inch higher than saddle; though I ride a lot in the deepish Noodle drops. The only factor that makes me anxious is the chafing of the, you guessed it, nose in the crotchal seams (sorry!), but if I lower the nose I am afraid I'll destroy the hammock like comfort of the rear part of the saddle. I'll put many more miles on it, first, then, if it seems unlikely to be suitable for multi-day riding, I'll try to adjust the tilt. But I have a Flite in store, just in case. The Pro *is* comfortable, for me, with bars 2" below saddle; but again, the tilt was impossible to fine tune just right after 12 or 18 months; either goosed or sliding onto my hands. Lance's choice! Re: [RBW] Re: What's the right saddle for a Roadeo?
The b.17 is an odd thing for me. It not 100% comfortable when I start a ride, maybe say 85% comfortable, whereas a San Marco Regal feels just superbly amazing 100% spot on comfortable when I first hop on the bike. However, as the ride progresses the Brooks' comfort stays consistent and at times even seems to improve, whereas the San Marco Regal start to be a real PITA after around mile 40 or so. I can ride the b.17 for 200 miles without ever feeling the need to get off the saddle due to it getting too painful. On a Regal that would be unthinkable, but a ride around the block would have me believe the Regal is the best thing ever. Of course different saddles for different people is true no matter what and this is just personal experience, but maybe mileage has something to do with saddle preference and consideration as well. If I only rode 10 mile rides I would use a Regal Good like finding the perfect one. Clayton Scott SF CA On Fri, Mar 19, 2010 at 5:32 PM, Michael_S wrote: > I have had the same experience. Re: [RBW] Re: What's the right saddle for a Roadeo?
For me at least, anything more than an inch or so and I had a hard time getting comfy on a B17, no matter how much I played with tilt. Most of my bikes have close to two inches of drop. Set up with a set of albatross bars and a more upright position, the same B-17 genital torture device became quite pleasant to ride. When you can get it right, nothing is more comfy than a Brooks. I'm tempted to try one of the new Berthoud saddles to see if that works better than the B-17 with about 2 inches of S-t-B drop. RE: [RBW] Re: What's the right saddle for a Roadeo?
Well, sure--it's up to each rider to draw the line where fashion and comfort/function meet. This past winter I installed my first leather bar tape, but I did it mainly for the color than the material. If it's not as comfortable as my standard Fizik Microtex, it's gone! In fact, my favorite saddle is not a Brooks at all; it is a Selle San Marco Regal. I think the Regal looks just fine on my Romulus, some might even say "classico". Moreover, since it is leather stretched over some padding and a plastic frame, you can ride it in the rain without worries about sagging or keeping it covered to protect it from the elements. When I rode a B17 (which I didn't care for too much) and a Team Pro (which I actually did like quite a bit), I always found it a hassle to have to pamper and protect for fear of them getting water-logged and saggy. The Regal is carefree by comparison. Aaron On Mar 18, 1:33 pm, Joe Bartoe < jbar...@hotmail.com> wrote: > Actually, I wouldn't choose any of them.
