Hi Folks,

It's been a long time but when I called in to what was then Trace, the answer I
got for cracked spill containment trays was to use green toy army soldiers,
like would be in your kid's toy box, to melt and bridge the crack. It worked.
However, the trays should not have cracked.

  Hey Todd ?

The company we used to make the spill containment trays has been having
severe delivery and quality problems for a long time and we unfortunately had
to just drop the product. We had a lot of problems with the plastic being too
fragile due to the thin wall thickness used. It needs a complete redesign and
possibly different material.

My favorite solution is to use before we offered the spill containment trays
was using EPDM type rubber pond liner sheet and just folding the corners (sort
of like wrapping a Christmas presents) inside of the enclosure. The upper
edges can be screwed or stapled to the sides to keep it from sliding down ?
although if the liner is heavy enough its not really an issue.

  I hope this helps!

  Hi Todd and all,
We use products from US Plastics. They make great, acid resistant
trays in lengths up to four feet. Here's the link to a page where you
can find some of their products. They have an extensive website, so
look around a bit. You can spend a lot ($300+) or a little, depending
on what you need. I have been using them for years with no issues. One
note, be sure to get the measurements of the bottom, not the top rim
as the walls typically flare out and the given dimensions can differ
from the actual footprint.

Re: [RE-wrenches] outback off grid monitoring

2008-12-14 Thread Jason Lerner

Hi Jay,
I have been using Wattplot for a few years and have seen it grow into
a great product for remote Outback systems.

http://www.wattplot.com/wattplot.htm

You need to have a computer on site or use a $100 RS-232 (from Mate)
to IP converter. This IP converter draws about 5 watts and allows
data collection every second from the Mate to any place off site with
an Internet connection. I monitor 4 remote systems on my office PC
(not for Macs though). It can provide email notifications, daily
kwh's, aux usage, etc, Pen plots are great to pin point when some
event occurred, and all warnings and error codes are recorded, and
can be emailed. All files can be exported and read in Excel.

Every port gets it's own screen line showing all important info such
as Battery Voltage, AC In/Out charging modes, battery temp etc. It
has become a great tool on my laptop to calibrate the voltages from
every FX or FM's on large systems.

My experience with satellite Internet is between the FAP (fair access
policy) restricting bandwidth and what they charge to get a static
IP, it might be better to have a laptop on site and install the
Wattplot on it, and have it do email reports whenever you would like.
The Asus Eee PC with a 10 screen is the most efficient laptop I have
found for this type of setup, but it needs to have Windows and not
Linux.

Feel free to contact me off list.

Best,

Jason Lerner

[RE-wrenches] Outback PSR-SCT

2008-12-14 Thread North Texas Renewable Energy Inc
Todd et.al.

Look in the yellow pages for a manufacturer of Prototype Injection Molds.
These guys are set up to manufacturer short runs of molded plastic parts.
They often use the vacuum-form process to make simple plastic shapes, usually
not close tolerance pieces. A battery tray would be a perfect job and built
exactly to your specs.
If you use a lot of the same size cells, you may want to consider a single or
double tray-per-cells arrangement. The initial setup cost will be lower for a
small tray, say 9 X 14, and by buying a lot of them, the mold-maker is happy
to give a lower unit cost and will spend less time on the setup.
As always, any molded part will be tapered so start big with your dimensions
and go smaller. It's a lot easier to take a little material off the sides of
the mold core compared to putting it back on.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Mates Losing time dates

hi Tump,

There was a recall of the Flexnets due to them reseting at the end of
the month, could it be that?

The main thing Ive had is the control of the AGS goes bad for some
reason. I have had no luck with reseting them, so I just replace
them and send the old ones back for reprograming.

[RE-wrenches] Flex Max 60 question

2008-12-14 Thread robert ellison
I am doing an upgrade at a site with 16, 53 watt panels wired into 2
strings of 8 panels each coming into the controller at around 53 or so
volts. The upgrade is 8, 175 watt Solar Worlds at around 70 volts.
Here is the question the customer is telling me that he has seen the old
rack putting out more power than the new rack that is almost 2 X the size.
Both are side by side and nearly the same tilt, shading is not a problem and
the 60's were bought at the same time.
I have never seen this happen at the times I am on the site.

Has anyone else seen any weird problems like this? I have other sites with 2
or 3 flexmax 60's and this has never been noticed before at those sites.
I don't have any confirmation of this and have not called Outback about it.
Just picking the collective brains so to speak..

Thanks,
Bob

Re: [RE-wrenches] Flex Max 60 question

2008-12-14 Thread Allan Sindelar
Something in your description doesn't jive, Bob...53W panels are most likely
12V nominal, such as Solarex VLX53; typical poly 12V, so 17 VMP - a string
of 8 would be 136V; why are you claiming 53V? Is it 4 strings of 4 modules
each?
