  \FUNNY THINGS KIDS SAY

This first story is from our church, Immanuel Lutheran of Avilla,
Indiana. Recently the Rev. Thomas Dunbar focused on the word "amazing"
during his children's sermon (because Jesus "amazed" onlookers with
his miracles). When he asked the children if they knew what "amazing"
means there was silence. Then one child offered: "A maze is when you
get lost in the corn." (In this area corn mazes are popular at this
time of year.) So Pastor Dunbar told the children how an "amazing"
event was when men landed on the moon. One child then asked, "Why?"

John's daughter was about 4 (she is now 36) when he and his late
wife, who was an interior decorator, took her for a walk. A woman came
from the opposite direction walking a beautiful Irish Setter. "Oh, Mommy,
look at the pretty dog!" John's daughter said. "But do they only come
in rust?" -- John Collins of Riverside, Rhode Island

Julia, 3, sits and plays with her sticker book or her church dolls
while the congregation stands and sings hymns. At the conclusion of
the hymn, the pastor says, "Please be seated." Julia's immediate stage
whisper response is "I AM seated." -- DonnaMoller (Grammy) of Katy, Texas

Here are more stories from Donna. Julia, 3, was watching HGTV
with Grammy when an advertisement came on for a new show. Grammy was
surprised to hear Julia say the burly man had a tutu. Then Julia grinned
and corrected herself, "I mean he has ataaa-too." (She meant tattoo.)

Julia, 3, and her sister Alyssa, 5, were talking to their mother
before bedtime when the topic turned to marriage. Both girls said they
wanted to marry Daddy when they grew up. Kathryn, their mother, told
them they couldn't marry Daddy because he was already married to her.
The girls began crying and repeated their wish to marry Daddy. Through
their sobs Kathryn said, "God already has a husband picked out for each
of you." Alyssa replied firmly, "I hope he's not that red-headed boy
  from Vacation Bible School!"

When Donna's daughter Kathryn (Alyssa's and Julia's mother) was in
kindergarten, much to Donna's surprise her entire class was paired up into
boyfriends and girlfriends. Kathryn's boyfriend was blond-haired Adam.
One day Kathryn announced, "Adam kissed me today." Donna wondered
how serious this was (a kiss on the lips or a peck on the cheek?) so
she said, "Where did Adam kiss you?" Kathryn smiled shyly and said,
  "Behind the television set."

Amy's sister, Holly, was lamenting on getting old as she faces her
20th class reunion. Her 5-year old, Rosie, didn't help when she asked
her mom, "What did you use before toothbrushes were invented?"
-- Aunt Amy of Butler, Pennsylvania

D.J. was getting Noah, 4, ready for bed one night. It was about a
week after they had visited D.J.'s grandfather in Ohio who was on oxygen,
and had the rubber tubes around his face and up his nose. D.J. told
Noah that he needed to blow his nose before going to bed because he had
some sniffles. He refused. When D.J. asked him how he would clear his
nose he replied, "I'll just get one of those snot sucker things like
Grandpa has!" -- D.J. Fett of Fort Wayne, Indiana

Timmy, 3, met his Aunt Debbie from Texas for the first time. She
handed him a gift and Timmy said, "Thank you." Aunt Debbie replied,
"My pleasure." Timmy looked up at his grandmother and asked, "Why did
her say blood pressure?" -- Timmy's "Gram" Artie Tyrrell of Colonial
  Beach, Virginia

Natalie, 6, was being tucked into bed and had just said
her traditional nighttime prayers when her daddy asked her if she'd
learned any new prayers in kindergarten at St. Mary's School in Avilla.
"Only the flag prayer," she said. "You know, I pledge allegiance,
to the flag..." -- Matt Getts of Kendallville, Indiana

When Chris and Sean were 3 and 2 they visited their grandparents
in San Francisco. One day their grandfather took them for a drive to see
the city. Chris asked his grandfather where they were going and he said,
"We're going to see the sights, Chris." Chris was quiet for a minute
and then asked very seriously, "Pa, do sights bite?" --Maggie Cron
(mother of Chris and Sean who are now 40 and 39) of Auburn, Indiana

Here is another story from Maggie. When the boys were about
the same age they went to a seafood restaurant that was known

  What Am I Thankful For?

What am I thankful for this year?

  What blessings come to mind?

  My dear friends and relations,

  So loving and so kind.

Each time I see the sunrise,

And the beauties of the day,

  The unexpected little joys,

  I find along the way.

What am I thankful for this year?

  The small and furry things,

The hope that keeps me going,

  The peace believing brings.

I have so much to thank God for,

I don't know where to start,

I only know He walks with me,

  And lives within my heart!

>> The Happiest Day Of My Life
>> It started innocently. Many years ago I worked in an office with large
>> windows facing a busy overpass. I was standing by one of those windows
>> one day when a woman in a passing car looked up and made eye contact.
>> Naturally, I waved.
>> A chuckle escaped my lips as she turned and tried to identify me. It

>> Co-workers began to take an interest. They would stand out of view,
>> watch the reactions I received, and laugh along. Late afternoon was the
>> best time - rush-hour traffic filled the overpass with cars and
>> commuter buses, and provided lots of waving material for the end-of-day
>> routine. It didn't take long to attract a following - a group of
>> commuters who passed the window every day and looked up at the strange,
>> waving man.
>> There was a man with a construction truck who would turn on his

>> was the transit bus from the docks that passed my window at 4:40 p.m.
>> It carried the same group every day, and they became my biggest fans.
>> After a while, waving became boring, so I devised ways to enhance my

[RecipesAndMore] Re: Exploding Pyrex Dishes

2009-10-14 Thread Sandra Warren

I! know! It surprised me when mom used one of the really old pyrex casserole
dishes; I never would think glass can get too old to use, and the thing is
there is no warning, no cracks, etc. so in truth, wonder if there is some
sort of guideline like this type of cookware is not safe to use say, after,
uh ten years?!

[RecipesAndMore] Re: Exploding Pyrex Dishes

2009-10-13 Thread Sandra Warren

I also found this to be interesting; mom had some really old pyrex stuff and
one of them shattered in the oven when we tried cooking some thing, and
luckily, it was on a baking sheet, but still made a mess, and I guess it was
just too old; I was surprised though to witness that happening.

  Forward

"Life is the first gift, love is the second, and understanding the third."

Sometimes, we wonder why friends keep forwarding emails to us without writing
a single word...

  maybe this could explain why...

When you have nothing to say,

  Still want to keep contact,

  Guess what you do,

  You forward emails.

When you have something to say,

  But don't know what,

  But don't know how,

  Guess what you do,

  You forward emails.

When you have something to say,

  But don't know why,

  Guess What you do,

  You forward emails.

  When you are still wanted,

  When you are still remembered,

  When you are still important,

  When you are still loved,

  When you are still cared,

  Guess what you get,

  A forwarded email.

  So dear friends,

next time if I forward u an email,

don't think that I have only sent u an email,

but I've remembered you in my heart

[RecipesAndMore] Re: Just Checking In

2009-10-11 Thread Sandra Warren

Hi, Sherri,
Glad you are back and well on the mend! That's the way it is with some
people, including myself! I don't get sick often, but when I do, I do! Just
precisely the way you described it; the last time I was sick like that, for
over a week, I was heaving and going the other way, and blame it on a
sandwich I had from Sonic, and a dose of food poisoning. Off to bed,
tomorrow is gonna be another hectic one.

Some Things You Keep

Some things you keep. Like good teeth. Warm coats. Bald husbands.

They're good for you, reliable and practical and so sublime that to throw
them away would make the garbage man a thief.

So you hang on, because something old is sometimes better than something
new, and what you know often better than a stranger.

These are my thoughts, they make me sound old, old and tame and dull at a
time when everybody else is risky and racy and flashing all that's new and
improved in their lives. New spouses, new careers, new thighs, new lips.

The world is dizzy with trade-ins. I could keep track, but I don't think I
want to.

I grew up in the fifties with practical parents - a mother, God bless her
who washed aluminum foil after she cooked in it, then re-used it- and still
does.

A father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new ones.

They weren't poor, my parents, they were just satisfied. Their marriage was
good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away.

I can see them now, Fifties couples in Bermuda shorts and Banlon sweaters,
lawnmower in one hand, tools in the other.

The tools were for fixing things - a curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen
door, the oven door, the hem in a dress. Things you keep.

It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing,
re-heating, re-newing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant
affluence. Throwing things away meant there'd always be more.

But then my father died, and on that clear autumn night, in the chill of
the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there
isn't any 'more'.

Sometimes what you care about most gets all used up and goes away, never to
return.

So, while you have it, it's best to love it and care for it and fix it when
it's broken and heal it when it's sick. That's true for marriage and old cars
and children with bad report cards and dogs with bad hips.

You keep them because they're worth it, because you're worth it.

Some things you keep.

  My Cat

  You've torn the daily paper
  Into a million shreds
  And tested the comfort
  Of all the beds
  Chased my wool
  All over the floor
  Hissed and spat
  At the dog next door,
  And proved yourself
  So brave and bold
  For a tiny kitten
  Only six weeks old
  You're now a black
  Little fluffy ball
  Curled up tight
  Asleep in the hall.

  The Cross In My Pocket

I carry a cross in my pocket

  A simple reminder to me

Of the fact that I am a Christian

No matter where I may be.

This little cross is not magic

Nor is it a good luck charm

It isn't meant to protect me

  From every physical harm.

  It's not for identification

For all the world to see

  It's simply an understanding

  Between my Savior and me.

When I put my hand in my pocket

To bring out a coin or key

The cross is there to remind me

Of the price He paid for me.

It reminds me, too, to be thankful

For my blessings day by day

And to strive to serve Him better

In all that I do and say.

  It's also a daily reminder

Of the peace and comfort I share

With all who know my master

And give themselves to His care.

So, I carry a cross in my pocket

  Reminding no one but me

That Jesus Christ is Lord of my life

If only I'll let Him be.

  A Friend Is A Treasure

A Friend is someone we turn to When our spirits need a lift,

A friend is someone we treasure For our friendship is a gift,

A friend is someone who fills our lives With beauty, joy, and grace

And makes the world that we live in, A better and happier place.

  _

  Because Of You

Because of you - I soar

You have lifted my spirit high

My world is full of sunshine

My tears have all run dry.

Because of you - I smile

  There's a bounce in everything I do

You make me feel so special

  With your friendship so true.

Because of you - I laugh

  You make the stars shine

You brought song into my life

I feel like dancing all the time.

Because of you - I feel love

From a friend who cares so much

  You have changed my life

And my heart has felt your touch.

  On the Lighter Side...

Is That Wedding Music That I Hear?

Donna was the organist for our wedding. She related a story to us
about a previous wedding in which she and her husband, Burk, were
participating (she played and he sang). During rehearsal the audio
man at the church asked them to sing and play so that he could adjust
volumes. They did not have the wedding music with them, so they began
to perform one of the hymns they had practiced for church the
previous week, "He Touched Me." Just as they started, the preacher
walked in and stopped, looking very surprised. He had never, ever
heard that song chosen for a wedding before. The opening line of the
hymn: "Shackled by a heavy burden..."

  Marriage Counseling

A couple who was having problems with their marriage went to a
counselor. He suggested to them to get a waterbed, it just might
bring them together. So they got one. But instead of coming together,
  they just drifted apart!

  Two Miracles

The devout cowboy lost his favorite Bible while he was mending fences
out on the range. Three weeks later, a cow walked up to him carrying
the Bible in its mouth. The cowboy couldn't believe his eyes. He took
the precious book out of the cow's mouth, raised his eyes heavenward
and exclaimed, "It's a miracle!" "Not really," said the cow. "Your
name is written inside the cover."

  The Dancer

A wealthy woman is giving a garden party with several well-to-do
guests attending. During the festivities, two gardeners are out on
the back lawn working. As a guest watched.. one gardener was busy
weeding when the other suddenly leaped high into the air, spun about,
and gracefully swirled. Taken by his grace, the guest remarked to the
host, "That man is such a talented dancer, I'd pay him $500 to dance
at my next party!" When the host asked the first gardener about such
an arrangement, he yelled, "Hey Louie! Do you think for $500 you
could step on that rake again?"

People Who Love You

1. There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.
2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.
3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be
just like you.
4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't
like you.
5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.
6. You mean the world to someone.
7. You are special and unique.
8. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you (Like Me!).
9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.
10. When you think the world has turned its back on you take another
look.
11. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude
remarks.

I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm
here than a whole truck load when I'm gone.

Happiness keeps You Sweet,
Trials keep You Strong,
Sorrows keep You Human,
Failures keeps You Humble,
Success keeps You Glowing,
But Only God keeps You Going!

Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month.

The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was
crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey.

She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey
got to heaven, God would recognize her.

I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is
with you in heaven.

I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my
dog even though she got sick.
I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and
to swim.

I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know
that she is my dog. I really miss her.
Love, Meredith

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and
Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven.

We put our return address on it.

Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the
envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all
the way to heaven.

That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post
office.

A few days later, she asked if God had received the letter yet.
I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our
front porch addressed, 'To Meredith' in an unfamiliar hand.

Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called,
'When a Pet Dies.'

Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written
to God in its opened envelope.

On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey &Meredith and
this note:

Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven.
Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right
away.
Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like
it stays in your heart.

Abbey loved being your dog.

Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any
pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little
book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.
Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for
helping you write it and sending it to me.

What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for
you.
I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very
much.
By the way, I'm easy to find, I am wherever there is love.

Love,
God

Forward to all your friends, including me.
And don't tell me you're too busy for this.
Don't you know the phrase 'stop and smell the flowers'?

Happiness keeps you Sweet,
Trials keep you Strong,
Sorrows keep you Human,
Failures keep you Humble,
Success keeps you Glowing,
But Only Friends Keep You Going!

There's something in a simple hug

  That always warms the heart;

  It welcomes us back home

And makes it easier to part.

A hug is a way to share the joy

And sad times we go through,

Or just a way for friends to say

They like you 'cause you're you.

  Hugs are meant for anyone

  For whom we really care,

From your grandma to your neighbor,

  Or a cuddly teddy bear.

A hug is an amazing thing,

  It's just the perfect way

To show the love we're feeling

But can't find the words to say.

It's funny how a little hug

  Makes everyone feel good;

  In every place and language,

  It's always understood.

And hugs don't need new equipment,

  Special batteries or parts -

  Just open up your arms

  And open up your hearts.

  On the Lighter Side...

  Answered Prayer

During the minister's prayer one Sunday, there was a loud whistle
from one of the back pews. Tommy's mother was horrified. She pinched
him into silence and, after church, asked, 'Tommy, whatever made you
do such a thing?' Tommy answered soberly, 'I asked God to teach me to
  whistle, and He did!'

  Dual Purpose

I met someone getting on the elevator who was drinking coffee and
complaining about how coffee made him nervous. I said why don't you
quit drinking coffee. He said, "Because if I didn't have the shakes I
wouldn't get any exercise at all."

  Riddle
Question: Why are bats who hang upside down afraid of old age?
  Answer: "Incontinence"

  A Horse Tale

A preacher trained his horse to go when he said, "Praise the Lord,"
and to stop when he said, "Amen." The preacher mounted the horse,
said, "Praise the Lord" and went for a ride. When he wanted to stop
for lunch, he said, "Amen." He took off again, saying, "Praise the
Lord." The horse started going toward the edge of a cliff. The
preacher got excited and said, "Whoa!" Then he remembered and said,
"Amen," and the horse stopped at the edge of the cliff. The preacher
was so relieved and grateful that he looked up to heaven and said,
  "Praise the Lord!"

Make Rotisserie Style Chicken At Home
Season the chicken and place it upright over the tube of a Bundt pan set
inside a
  roasting pan. Much
like a rotisserie, the Bundt pan allows heat to circulate
around the bird, searing the skin and locking in the juices. Enjoy.

  A DOG'S LOVE

It was raining on the day I took my St. Bernard, Buddy to the vet for the
last time. It was raining on my windshield, it was raining in my eyes, and it
was raining in my soul. My heart was heavy with the sadness of knowing that I
would soon be losing a friend who had always touched my soul with his sad face
and sweet personality.

When he was a puppy I used to carry him around in one arm. Now his 170 lb
body was ancient and ailing. Throughout all his life he had protected us with
his strength and loved us with his gentleness. He was a part of our family and
taking him on this last ride was one of the hardest things I ever had to do.

My voice like my spirit felt broken as I told the vet that it was best to end
Buddy's suffering now. I had watched over the last year as he slowed down. He
was in a lot of pain. He seemed more and more irritable and uncomfortable with
each passing day. Finally there came a point when I knew it was time to let him
go. His days here on Earth may have been short by our standards, but every
single one of them was full of love.

A person who didn't own dogs once asked me why I would put myself through
such pain. Why would I bring dogs into my home knowing that eight, ten, or
fifteen years later I would be losing them to death? I couldn't answer him at
the time, but looking back on Buddy's years with us I think I can now. A dog's
love is unconditional. It is pure. It is strong. It is blessed. It gives us
such great happiness. It reminds us of what God's love for us must be like. It
shows us what our own love is capable of becoming. A dog's love makes us
better. If I have to suffer this pain then to have that love then I will do so
gladly.

Take care dear Buddy until I see you again. You made me better. You helped me
to love. You gave me so much joy. I will forever cherish in my heart the years
we had here together.

  Today

Today I smiled, and all at once things didn't look so bad.

Today I shared with someone else, a bit of hope I had.

Today I sang a little song, and felt my heart grow light,

And walked a happy little mile, with not a cloud in sight.

Today I worked with what I had and longed for nothing more,

And what had seemed like only weeds, were flowers at my door.

Today I loved a little more and complained a little less,

And in the giving of myself, I forgot my weariness.

Subject: [RecipesAndMore] crabby old man

Hi there all,

i received this a few days ago, a bit sad but very thought provoking and
thought some of you would like this.
CRABBY OLD MAN

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in North
Platte, Nebraska , it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.

Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, they
found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies
were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her
copy to Missouri .

The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas
edition of the News Magazine of the St. Louis Association for Mental Health. A
slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.

And this little old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the
author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet.

Crabby Old Man

What do you see nurses? . . . . . What do you see?
What are you thinking . . . . . . . . when you're looking at me?
A crabby old man . . . . . . . . . . . . not very wise,
Uncertain of habit . . . . . . . . . . . . with faraway eyes?

Who dribbles his food . . . . . . . . . . . and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . . . . . 'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice . . . . . . . . . the things that you do.
And forever is losing . . . . . . . . . . . . A sock or shoe?

Who, resisting or not . . . . . . . . . . . lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding . . . . . . . The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking? . . . . . Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse . . . . . you're not looking at me.

I'll tell you who I am. . . . . . . . As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, . . . . . as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten . . . . . with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters . . . . . . . who love one another.

A young boy of Sixteen . . . . . . with wings on his feet.
Dreaming that soon now . . . . . a lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . . . my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows . . . . . that I promised to keep..

At Twenty-Five, now . . . . . . I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . . And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty . . . . . . . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . . . . . With ties that should last.

At Forty, my young sons . . . . . . . . . have grown and are gone,
But my woman's beside me . . . . . . to see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, babies play . . . 'round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . . . . . . . My loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me . . . . . . . . . my wife is now dead.
I look at the future . . . . . . . . . . . . . shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing . . . . . young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . .. . . . . . and the love that I've known.

I'm now an old man . . . . . . . . . and nature is cruel.
Tis jest to make old age . . . . . . look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles . . . . . . . . grace and vigor, depart.
There is now a stone . . . . . . . . . where I once had a heart.

But inside this old carcass . . . . . a young guy still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . . . . . . my battered heart swells.
I remember the joys . . . . . . . . . . I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living . . . . . . life over again.

I think of the years, all too few .. . . . . . gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . . . . . . . . . that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people . . . . . . . . open and see.
Not a crabby old man . . . . . . . . . . . . . Look closer . . . see ME!!

Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush
aside without looking at the young soul within. We will all, one day, be there,
too!

The best and most beautiful things of this world can't be seen or touched.
They must be felt by the heart.

Have a great day!

Kay

think that's all there is to it. I can check though.

10 RULES FOR A BLESSED DAY

  1. TODAY I WILL NOT STRIKE BACK . . .

If someone is rude, if someone is impatient, if someone is unkind, I will
not respond in a like manner.

  2. TODAY I WILL ASK GOD TO BLESS MY 'ENEMY'

If I come across someone who treats me harshly or unfairly, I will quietly
ask God to bless that individual. I understand "enemy" could be a family
  member, neighbor, co-worker or stranger.

  3. TODAY I WILL BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT I SAY . . .

I will carefully choose and guard my words being certain that I do not
  spread gossip.

  4. TODAY I WILL GO THE EXTRA MILE . . .

I will find ways to help share the burden of another person.

  5. TODAY I WILL FORGIVE . . .

I will forgive any hurts or injuries that come my way.

  6. TODAY I WILL DO SOMETHING KIND FOR SOMEONE, (BUT I WILL DO IT IN SECRET .
  . . )

I will reach out anonymously and bless the life of another.

  7. TODAY I WILL TREAT OTHERS THE WAY I WISH TO BE TREATED . . .

I will practice the golden rule. "Do Unto others as I would have them do
unto me"- with EVERYONE I encounter.

  8. TODAY I WILL RAISE THE SPIRITS OF SOMEONE WHO IS DISCOURAGED . . .

My smile, my words, my expression of support, can make the difference to
someone who is wrestling with life.

  9. TODAY I WILL NURTURE MY BODY . . .

I will eat less . . . I will eat only healthy foods. I will thank God for my
  body.

  10. TODAY I WILL GROW SPIRITUALLY . . .

I will spend a little more time in prayer today. I will begin reading
something spiritual or inspirational; I will find a quiet place (at some
point during this day) and listen to God's voice.

  Luke 10:27

He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your
  neighbor as yourself.'"

  Luke 10:27

We learn three principles about loving our neighbor: (1) lack of love is
often easy to justify, even though it is never right; (2) our neighbor is
anyone of any race, creed, or social background who is in need; and (3) love
means acting to meet the person's needs. Wherever you live, there are needy
people close by. There is no good reason for refusing to help.

Remember, today is a gift from God so treat it preciously

the plunger so the baby did not get the air which caused colic!

[RecipesAndMore] Re: Lora

2009-08-12 Thread Sandra Warren
I sure did, and was glad to see that they are still around!
I thought they were wonderful for feeding the strained foods, but sighted
people criticized me and felt that if ya used the feeders, your baby never
would learn how to use a spoon and fork; what shallow way of thinking! after
all, it was just for their strained foods, not for a lifetime menu for pete's
sake.

2009-08-10 Thread Sandra Warren
Hi, Lora, Good for you re getting rid of that! one! never had kids, but she
knows the ropes! yeah, right! wish we had tin hortons pastry shops here, or can
you also get dinners, meals?
That lady sounds like my former former former neighbor of years way way back,
and later, I did find out she had severe mental problems! my hubby worked
nights, so I sort of had Michael on a night schedule so both of us could get
some rest in the morning, and he was an infant, not in school! when my neighbor
found this out, she had a fit, and said I had to learn how to do things like
sighted people do! once or twice, she found a button or large safety pin on the
floor and instead of telling me about it, she talked or gossiped to the
neighbor across the street and worried what if the baby had found it instead of
her; my kids would place things in my hands and say, here, take that! they
never choked, etc., we were careful! they can be a pain in the drain, sighted
folks, I mean!

Yes, I know what you mean about horse's petunias! When I first was expecting
Debbie, they sent a nurse from the County Health Dept. Her name was Mary, and
she was supposed to monitor me, in case I had questions or whatever. Hicegirl,
she teased me about having a basketball. Debbie was very high up when i was
carrying her and it did kind of look like I had a basketball in there!
Well, the time she came over after Debbie was born, she started quibbling
about how I was holding Debbie. Well, heck, if it felt comfortable for me and
Debbie, and she wasn't complaining...give me a break! i finally politely asked
this Mary if she had ever had children. I found out she had not, and then I
very kindly asked her if maybe we didn't need to see each other again. I felt,
heck, since she had never given birth or bonded with a baby, who the hell was
she to tell me how to hlold her?
So that was the last I saw of Mary, no offense taken by her.
The only thing I may have done was turn both my kids into night owls because
sometimes I would walk into the kitchen with them to get a bottle or whatever,
and forget to puton the light for them.
George was always telling me to put on the light. I know neither one of them
was ever scared of the dark. Both used to wlrk night shift at the medical
testing lab vcalled Quest, Debbie still works late sometimes and Georgie had
all night shifts at Tim Horton's.. Bad bad me for forgetting light switches
sometimes!
But no, Deb and George do not walk around with infant feeders! haha

[RecipesAndMore] Re: What Is A Boy?

2009-07-27 Thread Sandra Warren
Hi, Steve!
This is great! Had not seen the one about the girl! This one about the boy was

Subject: [RecipesAndMore] What Is A Boy?

  What Is A Boy?

Between the innocence of babyhood and the dignity of manhood, we find a
delightful creature called a boy. Boys come in assorted sizes, weights and
colors, but all boys have the same creed: to enjoy every second of every minute
of every hour of every day and to protest with noise (their only weapon) when
their last minute is finished and the adult males pack them off to bed at night.

Boys are found everywhere, on top of, underneath, inside of, climbing on,
swinging from, running around or jumping to. Mothers love them, little girls
ignore them, older sisters and brothers tolerate them, adults ignore them, and
Heaven protects them.

A boy is Truth with dirt on his face. Beauty with a cut on its finger, Wisdom
with bubble gum in its hair and Hope of the future with a frog in its pocket.

When you are busy a boy is an inconsiderate, bothersome, intruding jangle of
noise. When you want him to make an impression, his brain turns to jelly or
else he becomes a savage, sadistic, jungle creature bent on destroying the
world and himself with it.

A boy is a composite, he has the appetite of a horse, the digestion of a
sword swallower, the energy of a pocket-size atomic bomb, the curiosity of a
cat, the lungs of a dictator, the imagination of a Paul Bunyan, the shyness of
a violet, the audacity of a steel trap, the enthusiasm of a fire cracker, and
when he makes something he has five thumbs on each hand.

He likes ice cream, knives, saws, Christmas, comic books, the boy across the
street, woods, water, in its natural habitat, large animals, Dads, trains,
Saturday mornings and fire engines.

He is not much for Sunday school, company, school, books without pictures,
music lessons, neck ties, barbers, girls, overcoats, adults, or bedtime.

None else is so early to rise or so late to supper. Nobody else gets so much
fun out of trees, dogs and breezes. Nobody else can cram in one pocket-a rusty
knife, a half eaten apple, three feet of string, an empty Bull Durham sack, two
gum drops, six cents, a sling shot, a chunk of unknown substance and a genuine
supersonic ring with a secret compartment.

A boy is a magical creature, you can lock him out of your kitchen, but you
can't lock him out of your heart. You can get him out of your study, but not
out of your mind.

Might as well give up, he is your captor, your jailer, your boss and your
master. A freckled-faced, pint-sized, cat-chasing bundle of noise.

When you come home at night with only the shattered pieces of your hopes and
dreams, he can mend them all like new with the two magic words, Hi MOM!

  _

  What is a girl?

Little girls are the nicest things that happen to people. They are born with
a little bit of angel shine about them and though it wears thin sometimes,
there is always enough left to lasso your heart, even when they are sitting in
the mud, or crying temperamental tears, or parading up the street in mother's
best clothes.

A little girl can be sweeter (and badder) oftener than anyone else in the
world. She can jitter around and stomp, and make funny noises that frazzle your
nerves, yet just when you open your mouth, she stands there demure with that
special look in her eyes. A girl is innocence playing in the mud, Beauty
standing on its head, and Motherhood dragging a doll by the foot.

Girls are available in five colors, black, white, red, yellow, or brown, yet
Mother Nature always manages to select your favorite color when you place your
order. They disprove the law of supply and demand, there are millions of little
girls, but each is as precious as rubies.

God borrows from many creatures to make a little girl. He uses the song of a
bird, the squeal of a pig, the stubbornness of a mule, the antics of a monkey,
the spryness of a grasshopper, the curiosity of a cat, the speed of a gazelle,
the slyness of a fox, the softness of a kitten, and to top it all off, He adds
the mysterious mind of a woman.

A little girl likes new shoes, party dresses, small animals, first grade,
noise makers, the girl next door, dolls, make-believe, dancing lessons, ice
cream, kitchens, coloring books, make-up, cans of water, going visiting, tea
parties and one boy. She doesn't care much for visitors, boys in general, large
dogs, hand-me-downs, straight chairs, vegetables, snow suits, or staying in the
front yard. She is loudest when you are thinking, the prettiest when she has
provoked you, the busiest at bed time, the quietest when you want to show her
off and the most flirtatious when she absolutely must

  Little Angels

Have you ever met a person
  that fulfilled you deep inside,
someone who has never failed you,
no matter what, at your side?

Someone who gives from their heart,
  who brings sunshine all around,
  always smiling and laughing,
  never seeming down.

Have you ever listened to the wind blowing
  restlessly through the night,
  and heard the angels' whispers
helping you to see, when you've lost sight?

Have you ever given to someone
when you didn't have it to spare,
  and felt so worthy inside,
  that you didn't care?

  You see my friend,
  little angels surround you,
so listen closely to what they say,
and they'll bring you all life's riches
as they guide you along your way.

I'm just writing to say I'll be leaving the group within the next few days.

I'm not going to go into reasons on here, but if any of you want to keep in
touch off of list, please feel free.

I've enjoyed being a part of this group, but it's time I took a step back.

There are a few wonderful people on this list and I appreciate every one of
you that have replied to my messages.

My email address is beckhamma...@gmail.com I do hope to hear from some of you.

I hope to be back one day too, but am not sure when that'll be.

I'll be on for a day or so, but after that, I won't be.

  Kay

Hi, Lora,
What a wonderful praise report about your brother, Dan. Thank God he got there
in time to get these concerns worked out. it will take him a good while to
adjust to all the changes, medicine and diet, but when he begins feeling
better, he will convince himself that this is all for the very best; also, good
that your son is helping where Dan used to.

We have good news about my brother, Dan. Dan was released from the hospital
at around 10:15 Thursday evening where he had a brief stay in the emergency
room after being released earlier that day.
Our son brought him back to our house where we talked a couple hours and then
he spent the night on our couch. Then early Friday morning our son took him to
his work where he picked up his car and got several prescriptions.
He is back home where he needs to rest, recover, and become used to changes
in diet and several different medications. He is a diabetic now and there are
conditions that are being monitored with his heart, bladder, blood thinners,
injections and I can't think of much more.
But he has lost some weight, is looking well rested, speaking and breathing
easier. And all the wondering and uncertainty is over. There is a long road
ahead but i am happy he got there in time to catch all of these conditions and
have a lot of options for treatment.
We are happy to have him back. Our son, George Elvis, will do some more of
the work that Dan had done for us during the last ten years as a service
provider and of course a great brother.

  Lora

a two-year-old mix of lab and pit bull. She is much smaller than Sam and has a
very sweet personality so far.
She is a little doll and I think we will be very happy with her.
We adopted her from the same animal shelter where we got Sam. Her former

There is a lot for all of us to to learn but I am hoping it will work out for

FRIENDS

Friends are special people who accept the way we are.

They stand by you in trouble or when you’re swinging on a star.

Your relatives and family are yours because of birth,

But friends you pick and choose because they’re folks of special worth.

As we go through life we realize our friends become more dear,

We consider them our blessings each time we add a year.
