Re: [Repeater-Builder] Hamtronics Preamp part ID

2005-12-11 Thread Bob M.
That part number 2369E44 looks strangely like the end
of a Motorola component part number. Usually they have
7 digits, a letter, and two more digits, but in this
case the first 3 digits are missing. Some of the "M"
series transistors are marked, for example, M9876, and
the p/n is something like x98E76 or even
xxx9876Exx, in other words, some of the "M" number is
in the p/n. I don't recall what the prefix is for
transistors (68 is for manuals); maybe it's one of
their house numbers.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Vibrasponder wanted:

2005-12-11 Thread Bob M.
While I don't have the reed freq you're looking for, I
do have two SpectraTAC receivers. The PL board in
those will work with either the fat VibraSponder reeds
(that's what it's designed for) or the thinner
VibraSender reeds. I found that the senders tend to
keep vibrating longer when the signal goes away, which
probably makes them work better in transmit
applications where they don't need to be responsive to
input signals.

I got one "sender" from MDM Radio. I then found a guy
in Canada who sold me two "sponders". If you look
around the web long enough you'll probably find the
one you need. I also bought a brand new SpectraTAC PL
Decoder board from someone to go into a chassis that
never had one. Stuff is out there - it's a matter of
looking and asking anyone and everyone.

It appears that the "sponder" begins life as a
"sender" then they solder some thicker metal around
the sides to make sure it can't fit into a "sender"
socket.

I don't know if this helps, but the Hamtronics R144 and R220 receiver used
a 3N201 dual-gate FET for an RF amplifier just before the 3 section helical

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Flexar

2005-12-11 Thread Eric Lemmon
Rich,

There were four manuals pertaining to FLEXAR equipment published;
unfortunately, all of them are out of print:

6881035E55 Basic Service Manual for VHF, UHF, and 800 MHz stations
6881045E10 UHF Base/|Repeater Stations Options Manual supplement
6881109E06 Base Station Owner's Manual
6881109E87 Base/Repeater Station Owner's Manual

The first two manuals listed above will have all of the info you need.
Now that you know what the numbers are, perhaps you can find them on the
Internet or from one of the many used-manual vendors.

The Vibrasponder is needed in a Spectra Tac voting receiver. If I'm not
mistaken, it's that fatter one. However, I have seen the thinner one work

Hi, Jim,
figure out which one of the preamp/preselectors you
have and then go to the Hamtronics web site and
download the manual for it. The manuals are found on
the bottom of the side-bar on the left of the web

The 8381 is the small fat reed used in the Motrac, Motran
and Micor PL decoders.

The 6209 is one of the small thin reeds, and is factory spec'd as the
decode reed in Mitreks that use reeds (there were two tone boards
for the Mitrek, only one used reeds).

The fat reeds were about 30% thicker than the thin reeds, and it
makes a difference: if your decoder expects a fat reed and you
plug in a thin reed you get less coupling and it can cost you some
decode sensitivity. There are some thin reeds that will work in
place of an 8381 but not all. It depends on the decoder and the
reed.

For a photo go look at eBay item 5840180977

First of all the guy thinks they are crystals, second of all
the photos are out of focus, but they do show the three
basic sizes -
the smallest are Permacode filters (for handhelds - think "solid state reed"),
the middle size is a small reed, and the large reed is the 8381 fat reed.
For the purposes of this discussion forget the Permacode.

So are you looking for a fat reed or a thin reed?

BTW, what radio is this for?

Re: [Repeater-Builder] DR-235 for repeater

2005-12-11 Thread dalite01
Andy,

I have not personally done this, but the data out connector should suply
pins for audio in , audio out, Squelch voltage or logic and a reference
ground. These signals should provide everything you should need for direct
linking of 2 radios. The DB9 is easy to work with.

Since these were designed for packet use, the audio is not affected by front
panel controls. It is conditioned and altered after it enters the TNC; or
in this case, the other rig.

I have set up crossband repeaters using data connectors from other brands,
and it works well with little external manipulation.

Attached is the page from the manual describing pin function for the DB9
connector. Email me if it doesn't go through.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: DB201 warning

2005-12-11 Thread skipp025
I've got to post this information regardless of opinions.

The UHF DB-201 UHF 450-470 antenna is a well known IMD
generator when placed anywhere semi close to other metal
objects.

I fought many a gremlin sourced back to the UHF DB
antenna. (no problems to report with the vhf or low
band version). Motorola used to supply them with new
base station installs sold to customers.

Customers would put the UHF Antenna in or around a
building and it would inter-react with nearby objects
and crap the whole system.

I lost count over the number of problematic db-201
type/brand uhf antennas I changed out repeater systems
through the years.

There are a number of antenna models, which have
proven to be real trouble makers. The UHF DB-201 is
one such animal. Another is the VHF Sinclair SLR/SRL-235
antenna.

Avoid using the UHF DB-201 or equivalent antenna
where possible. Unless you're into self abuse.

cheers,
skipp

Re: [Repeater-Builder] DB201

2005-12-11 Thread Eric Lemmon
Steve,

The Andrew DB201 antenna is manufactured in four basic sizes, and is cut at
the factory for the desired frequency. The info sheet for this antenna
shows that the element sizes are quite different for each of the bands. Go
here for the spec sheet:

I'm looking for a TLN8381A or a KLN6209A Vibrasponder on 67.0 hz.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Connectors wanted

2005-12-11 Thread Adam T. Cately
This has been hashed here before, but:

You can use those two-piece N connectors made for 9913 in the same
way - you need a UG-176 adapter made for RG-8X (Mini-8) to collar over
the FSJ-1 and solder it in place - then carefully screw the main section
of the 9913-N connector onto the adapter - solder the center pin (you
may have to dress the center conductor to mate into the pin) and screw
the outer case onto the connector.

Makes for another inexpensive way to terminate this style of cable.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: SPECTRA VHF

2005-12-11 Thread sgreact47
I can repair/refurbish the RF boards. Contact me off list.
I also do full Spectra repairs.

Tim's problem is not uncommon, I have seen and repaired a whole lot of
Spectras with the same problems.
