[Repeater-Builder] Re: Squeel'n Problem!!

2006-01-18 Thread Scott
Had the same exact thing happen on a Motorla Mitrek setup, asked the
guys here, they said turn up the power a little so the internal TX RX
filters would work better. Cranked it up from 25 to 30W and it did the
trick.

I have heard the GE's are just a finicky.

Kevin ; I have a spkr on the rptr and it was working fine couple days
back when I was at the site. There was no squeeling at the time either.
I'll get back up there and put another speaker on it. This was my first
thought but it checked out at the time. Could be a intermittent
connection somewhere in spkr connections.

Tnx,

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Antenna gurus?

2006-01-18 Thread Joe Montierth
Because of the frequency band, and the size of the
antennas, the spacing may have to be several
wavelenghts. Remember at this frequency a wavelength
is about 4 inches, and spacing is measured center to
center.

I think you would be better off just getting a panel
antenna with 12 dBi of gain and the approx 70 degree
horizontal beamwidth.

I think the spacing should be closer to .85-1.0 wavelength. As an
example, the DB224 and others similar in configuration, no matter what
the band, will use this spacing.

[Repeater-Builder] Operating a Spectra-TAC Comparator (Voter) without RX encoders.

2006-01-18 Thread Kevin Custer
Hi,

Need some opinions from folks that may be using the (newer) Motorola
Spectra TAC Comparator as a stand alone voter, using RF links that don't
transmit all the time. I have some theories on what to do, but I
thought I would post to see what others have done.

Please be as specific as you can. The comparator I have is the newer
style that uses Signal Quality Modules that produce a voltage that
corresponds with the quality of the signal received, not the 3 Micor
squelch chips.

Thanks in advance,

I don't know how much audio is actually available from that point, and
depending on the component values chosen for de-emp in the 1P
controller, an amplifier stage may be required to bring things up to
where they belong.

This circuit, modified for De-Emp may just work:

Another option would be to change the gain of the op-amp stage in the
controller.  The resistor across the first op-amp can be raised in
value to compensate for the loss of audio when you use de-emp.

While more isolation is always better, 120 dB is a bit of overkill in most

Notch only cavities are fine so long as your repeater isn't co-located with
other comm. equipment.  If it is, a BpBr duplexer probably isn't enough;
you should have a true pass cavity on the TX to keep other TXs from
entering your TX & mixing, causing interference. Same goes for the
RX. BpBr duplexers do help a bit with in-band rejection & generally have
better isolation specs than notch-only cans, but offer no isolation once
you get over 50-100 MHz away from their operating frequency. And you do
need the out-of-band rejection on a preamp, as many well-designed preamps
are inherently broadband & will actually perform well at twice the design
frequency!

> Then do not go overboard on the
>gain. Stay with something in the order of 7-10db with under 1 db noise
>figure.

Depending on the RX, 7-10 dB may not be quite enough. A 0.4 uV RX with 7
dB of low-noise gain in front of it will only drop down to 0.18 uV - still
room for improvement.

Some of the better preamps available are designed specifically for moderate
gain (~16 dB) to prevent overload problems. See http://www.anglelinear.com
for more info.

The 'D' in the number means VHF. 'E' in that position is UHF.
Also 'B' would be low band, and 'F' would be 800/900Mhz.
There is also a 'C' mid-band version: 66-88Mhz.

around 1000hz heard on the repeater. It as all problems comes and
goes. It at first could be heard only when a carrier was being

on tx hangtime.
This morning though it remained on after the rec'd signal dropped,
all the way until the R
rptr TX dropped. It would happen this morning about 50% of the time.
This was first time we've heard it in a few days.
Any ideas what to look fer first?? Thought the trouble was the

Is there a memory battery?  Opening or replacing the battery should
return everything to factory settings.

DId you try a full reset of the radio...that might help. I would try
it before replacing it.

There's no reset on those. Turning it off is the only reset.

[Repeater-Builder] WANTED:19 inch rackmount chassis

2006-01-18 Thread Q
Our local club is looking for a 19" rack mount chassis to house
its repeater controller and associated equipment. It needs to be
completely enclosed with solid covers,at least 8" high and 12"
deep. Used is ok if it doesnt have a large amount of holes to fill.
