[Repeater-Builder] Yahoo Groups Question for Messages to Repeater Builder - OT

2006-03-17 Thread Kevin Natalia Mitchell

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the bandwidth, but I have a small problem when sending messages
to the group. It does happen on the other groups I belong to.
I used to be able to see any message I sent to the group, however other the
past 6 months when I send a message, I do not get a forward message from the
server. It was nice to see it come back, as it told me the message made it to
the group.
Like this message, I will not see that it has been received unless I go
into the yahoogroups web-page for Repeater Builder.

Would anyone have any ideas what may be wrong, I have checked my setup for
yahoo, and can not see anything to cause this problem.

Regards and Thanks

Kevin.

Nothing really 'wrong' ~ It's your G-Mail being helpful...

As I understand it ~ it sees your 'sent' and the 'received' as
duplicates, and saves only one. Guess which one.

A lot of anti-spam programs have a tendency to put certain email

[Repeater-Builder] Kenwood TKR/TKB 720/820 rear panel molex connectors.

2006-03-17 Thread skipp025
Kenwood TKR/TKB 720/820 rear panel molex connectors.

Hi John,

Please Email me direct for various prices and availability.
I push the nice factor here in the group by blabing as much
as I do so I'm sure people wouldn't like me doing regular
business through the group. .

The Molex connectors I like buy are from Farnell Europe (or
equivalent) are most often real deal Molex parts, not the
typical after-market low cost items where the cheapo pins
tend to oxide up (in any moist location )pretty fast. I
also like to coat the pins in ProGold G5 after assembly.

If you only need a few pins, I could put some in an envelope
and send them out. Buy me a cup of Java or a braut some
day at Dayton. which I already have the airplane
tickets for.

I was doing fine thinking just about a Dayton cup of
famous flea market coffee until Kevin mentioned the
brauts. Now all I can think about is brauts.

thanks kevin...

cheers,

[Repeater-Builder] Motorola TEK-5E test set, slightly OTT

2006-03-17 Thread n3dab
Greetings to the group,

I was trying to tune some Mitrek rcvr's. using the service manual
procedure and a TEK-5E test set ( big box with 8 meters on it). The
Mitrek manual says to set meters 1 and 2 to reverse for some of the
tuning steps. Now my problem, there is NO reverse switch on this
test set, even though the manual says it is one that can be used for
Mitreks. I was used the C setting an the selector switch, should I
have used the A setting instead ? The manual implies that you flip
a forward /reverse switch on the test set.

My question is simple. What is the simplest to provide the reverse
meter readings for meters 1 2 in this peice of gear. drill the box
and install a series of DpDT swicths for each of the required meters or
are there any other solutions out there.

TIA for any helpful info.

2006-03-17 Thread n . mckie

I have a couple of the earlier TEK-5 metering panels ... when
the Micor test modification is installed, there is, I believe, a
five position rotary switch in place of the 0-10 / 0-20 VDC meter
on the lower left hand corner of the earlier panel.

You might try different positions of this switch to obtain the
 meter polarity reversal you need.

BTW, I haven't studied either of my TEK-5 metering panels or the
associated manuals to determine a correct answer for your question.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: EEproms Phoenix Radios

2006-03-17 Thread Coy Hilton
Here is a tid bit of info if you don't want to buy the expensive
x2212s you can use 2764 or 27128 eproms that is what I have been using
to play with the two that I have. I use a standard Eprom burner. I use
Dave Kaars program to create the file then I take the HEX text file
and append a F to each nibble to create a 8 bit word then run it
through a HEX to BIN conversion program. I load it up with my EPROM
burner and blast away. I use a 18 pin wire wrap socket with a 24 pin
sockey mounted on top to wire out the pins for the 2764 or 27128s.

I'm working on using a DS1225 NV-SRAM for program ability inside the
radio.

When I can get a manual I'm going to look into Duplexing the thing.

Have Fun

I did try large heliax but it was not really a great success
as you say with just 500 split it can be difficult, but the frequencies are

I have every thing else working fine, tx/rx controller just need

 Steve,

Since you have 500 kHz split you will need cans which as you have
found expensive. Some have used 1-5/8 heliax with success, but don't
 think at 500 kHz.

 Wish I could say more.

test set, even though the manual says it is one that can be used
for
Mitreks. I was used the C setting an the selector switch,
should I
have used the A setting instead ? The manual implies that you
flip
a forward /reverse switch on the test set.

My question is simple. What is the simplest to provide the
reverse
meter readings for meters 1 2 in this peice of gear. drill the
box

meters
or are there any other solutions out there.

 TIA for any helpful info.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] 6mtr duplexer

2006-03-17 Thread Mike Perryman K5JMP
Hey Dick,
I can't say that I swear by them... but the price certainly is right. And
the performance isn't bad if you are judicious in construction. Like I said
earlier... 50 bucks for a 6m duplexer is a HUGE bargain.. If I had my
druthers, I would use Wacom cans. But I already have a second mortgage
grin!...

Did anyone investigate Sam's website. In my earlier post there was a link
to my page... and my page has a link to Sam Kennedy's website. He built a
set of helical filters..
http://www.members.cox.net/xsamo/
I would be curious if anyone else has tried this approach. And what the
results were...

Hi
can anyone recommend a cheapish 6mtr duplexer, not a home
made heliax one. Tx freq is 50.750 Rx 51.250
I did play with a heliax one and it was a lot of trouble, going off tune,
causing desense etc, etc. Big problem is Iam in the UK
and prices are very expensive, around 900 UK pounds.

Thanks

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Motorola TEK-5 Test Set Manuals

2006-03-17 Thread Eric Lemmon
For those of you looking for a manual for one of the TEK-5 series of test
sets, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I can identify
what manuals are needed:

TEK-5B 6881101A77
TEK-5C 6881116A36
TEK-5E 6881121A62
TEK-5F 6881122E56

The bad news is that the first three (B, C, and E) are no longer available
from Motorola Parts.

More good news: The TEK-5F manual IS available, priced at just $ 1.57!
Hard to believe...

[Repeater-Builder] Can anyone identify this?

2006-03-17 Thread Rick Stirling
We have a repeater given to our club. It is more or less in working
condition on the 2 meter band. Trouble is there is no controller or

I've been told it is a Compa-Station but I haven't been able to
correlate this backplane any of the pictures on repeater-builder.

Any clues would be appreciated. I'm planing on installing a CommSpec
CTCSS TS64DS decoder and the NHRC-4 controller.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Can anyone identify this?

You're looking at the backplane... This looks like a PURC station, if I'm
not mistaken. We [Will County (IL) EMA] just put one on of these the air
for relay of EMWIN data, operating on 163.325... in cooperation with the NWS
Chicago, of course.

It **should** be able to be heard around the greater Chicago Metro area.
We're running about 60W now - the PA is rated for 110W. (It originally had
a 325W tube PA, but the county's radio tech didn't want to have to worry
about tubes... I exchanged it with another list reader for the 110W PA...
:-) BTW - Thanks Matt, it's working great!

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Can anyone identify this?

2006-03-17 Thread Eric Lemmon
Rick,

Offhand, it looks like a 60 watt, intermittent duty base station. If it
were a repeater station, there should be shield plates covering the
receiver. It might also be a paging station.

Look for any numbers stamped in black ink along the edges of the backplane
and on the power supply or on any sheet metal parts. Any string of three
letters and four digits, usually starting with T, are important. Also
look for any tag or label with a number of the form C53RTB3106A (the letters
and numbers may be different) which is the model number. Some overall
photos of the front and back will help a lot.

2006-03-17 Thread n3dab
Final post: Depending on size (dia.) and length you might consider
getting sheet copper of the appropriate thickness and having a
sheetmetal fabrication shop cut it and roll it to your dimensions.
They could also form a lap seam or lock seam where the 2 edges meet
and cut your end plates too. You might also want to consider
aluminum, problably cheaper, if you have access to a TIG or heliarc
welder. Try a local or area trade school and talk to the welding
instructor. They might build what you want just for the student
practice.
