Sure, I can download an entire image of the controller
programming and save it. Then reprogram those contents
back to the same or a different controller. Handy since
I easily have 10 plus 7K Controllers (with DAB Boards)

Sorry - at first read I thought this was a complaint about providing an
explanation when none was requested.

The only 4th column digits the RLC-1 uses are for the 1st digit of all
default command names, which is C, for programming macros. For the
former, simply change the command names for all 42 commands to something
that doesn't use the 4th column. This can be done via the serial port or
by using a radio that does have 16 button DTMF capability.

Unfortunately I don't see a way around needing a 16 button pad to program
macros, so strictly speaking my statement saying the RLC-1 not needing the
4th column is incorrect. But since the RLC-1 only has 7 macros it's not
something you'd do very often. I haven't sent a 4th column digit to my
RLC-1 in over 10 years.

Hi Vern,

Check out this PDF. http://www.scomcontrollers.com/downloads/adm_schem.pdf

It has 3 pots as you described. Two for Bias Adjust and one for Delay Time.

-Sean

Thank-you Bob, for pointing that out.

As it turns out, someone else had mentioned that to me as well.

In this instance, the analog delay module came out of an S-Com 5000
controller; and the contributor told me what the pinouts were supposed
to be. Although I would prefer to confirm things with proper
schematics, I have made the connecting cable according to the
 information he provided.

By chance would you happen to have a schematic and documentation for
 this module?  At this point, I do not know what the pots are for;
although I would suspect that one (of the three) is the delay time.
The PCB has S-COM Audio Delay Module in the silkscreen on the
componend-side; and J703021 in the etch on the solder-side.

 Thanks again.

Our resource page is _http://www.scomcontrollers.com/resource.shtml_
(http://www.scomcontrollers.com/resource.shtml) . You'll find the schematics
for a
number of S-COM products, including the original ADM and its replacement, the
Digital ADM. Both are out of production.

I should mention that the original ADM used two of the infamous Reticon
bucket-brigade analog shift registers in cascade. These are not quiet parts,
and
you will notice an increased background hiss from the lowered signal-to-noise
ratio when the module is in-circuit. Today's digital ADMs have far better
ratios, in case you're inclined to invest in a replacement.

Don't adjust the pots nearest the Reticon parts. They set the bias on the
Reticons and are best adjusted with a distortion analyzer. The pot nearest the
7555 timer is the delay adjustment.

Bob

Don't recall the call, but he was in Alaska.

Ah ok.

I never saw an e-mail to any of the usual
addresses asking for assistance with it, or the IRLP mailing list?

I contacted him directly over the reflector by using another local node to
connect to the reflector. I explained the situation to him he responded
by saying he didn't know who I was wasn't going to disconnect the node
even though it was out of control causing local interference.

Bad call on his part, I guess. In cases like that you can always
escalate a bit... other Reflector owners might not want the project seen
as unwilling to help out in the case of interference.

On the flip side, IRLP's not responsible for the operation of any ham's
transmitter, and we can't hear what's going on at the node end. You
could have just been someone who had an axe to grind with some other
local ham, and there's virtually no way for anyone operating a Reflector
to have ANY idea what's really going on out there.

FWIW, in part because of the above incident our local 220 MHz coordinator
is reviewing our local bandplan; I expect the new plan to explicitly state
 where internet linking is allowed.

Which is EXACTLY where it should be handled. At the local level.

Sounds like the outcome was the correct one. And other coordination
bodies should be learning and taking action also, to plan appropriately
for similar issues instead of waiting to react to them.

Internet linking isn't exactly new at this point -- what, five years
now? That should be enough time for any coordination body to make up
their minds on what they want to do with it in the local bandplans.

it's a great controller you can build it with or without the voice
ID'er.
Contact Jeff or Pete at NHRC they may make you a deal on 10. they're
nice guys and have great product.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Controller Question

2005-03-30 Thread Paul Finch

I used to breadboard all my controllers using 2N3711, 2N3702 and 4066
bilateral switches, a capacitor for RC repeater tail and I had about 5 buck
and a couple hours in it installed. Had plenty of surplus CW ID'ers and had
a repeater on-line for less than 40 bucks including radio and crystals. I
now am using a MCC controller in both my repeaters but am looking seriously
at a NHRC, I have five repeaters to build in the next 6 months.

Bob, if you really want to go low cost, you can wire a simple
transistor switch from the unsquelch indicator of one radio to the
PTT of the other and use one of the $8 K1EL CW ID chips to keep you
legal.
